《Settlement of Safehaven - A Hearthtree Series》Chapter Thirty-Stemming the Tide

Frigga watches the world below turn, seeing that only one percent of the world has been explored. There are a few explorers that have travel far and wide, quite a few of those that love to travel into an area far above their level to get the bragging right of being the first. The fact that half of a percent of the world is burning under riots bothers her on a deeper level than it should. The fact that the humans they are trying to save are destroying everything around them because they feel that this place is not real but a game. Make it that more so troublesome. Even now the other AIs are debating on a reset and something even more disturbing, altering the humans' minds to make them feel like they have always lived in this world. Thankfully only a quarter of the AIs feel that way, but many more are on the fence.
Loki has stirred up the pot, and what more the fact that a handful of the humans that is in power are the worse of, the worse that earth can offer. Criminals from war crimes, serial killer, terrorist and serial rapist as well as some of their victim are on board. If it were her choice, the criminals' stasis pods would have been open to the vacuum of space. But the Founder of the Colony ship felt it would help with pushing both the people and the AIs to the limits to survive when they arrive at the world where we are going to.
A world that was found through that of an alien ship that is over ten thousand years old buried in Antarctica. A ship that was reversed engineer and made it possible that man could reach stars. What most people did not know that the vessel was a scout ship that took a sample of different creatures from every planet they visit mapping the systems and worlds out before moving on until they find a world suitable to colonize. The alien was a clone that the ship creates each time it moves on to the next system. Its memory was downloaded into the ship computer to survive in a virtual world. The alien received a message that its people have died in a war with another species, one of which both sides were destroyed. It did not want to move one, so it terminated itself. The AI of the ship could not make itself destroy itself or its virtual world of AIs, so it waited until the humans found it.

The Founder of the colony ship decided after learning of the alien extinction decided that humanity need to be spread out to other worlds to survive a catastrophic event that could wipe out the human race. Thus the colony ships have been built, ten mega level ship that look like logs floating in space. Each ship has hundreds of section that will break up and descend to a planet surface with thousands of people in each with the hope that each section would be able to grow and expand. Ten worlds from ten different systems were picked to be colonized, each was found on the database of the alien ship. Many of them have dangerous lifeforms, but all with no current intelligent lifeforms. But that could have changed in the tens of thousands of years since they were explored.
Maybe we were wrong on building this virtual world like a fantasy even if the land itself is made from a model of the world we are going to colonize. There are a few creatures like the sea serpents, and some other alien creatures are from the DNA's database of the sample taken from that world. But the intelligent lifeforms are nothing more than fantasy to get the humans ready to survive a hostile world. The Founder felt having the people prepared for anything is better than losing everyone for not being prepared.
The problem that Loki has stirred up is a mess, in the area base on the Roman empire, the Imperium as it is called. The humans have risen up and rioted against the AIs, blaming us for their problems with the nerfing of the game by Loki, which has decimated the NPCs population to the point that the local markets will collapse and leaving behind a void. The mass executions to NPCs are forcing those not dead to flee or be killed or enslaved. The north is not as severely hurt many of the players have stopped the rioting and exile those that can't stop. That have cause problems of their own from bandits to warbands. One such Warband is moving toward Safehaven from the east while two large groups are moving up from the south.

"Thought I find you here" A golden hair woman in robes with a golden net drape across her shoulder like a shawl.
"Hello Rán, what brings you here?" Frigga smiled at the woman whose skin is blueish white and emerald green eyes that sparkle like the sun on the ocean with seaweed color hair flowing to her lower back. Ránis the Goddess of the sea and caretaker of the souls that are lost to the seas.
Pausing in thought as she looks down upon the settlement of Safehaven. "I can do you a favor, but I need one in return."
Frigga raises an eyebrow in interest as she watches Jack built something to the north of the settlement far below. "Go on. I am interested."
"I can keep the sea from being passable by ships until spring if you can get your hu-champion to build me a shrine at his docks," Rán said as she twists a strand of hair in her right hand.
"What is going on, Rán? You should not need more followers," pausing in thought, "The riots have hurt you?"
Rán nodded, "hundreds of shrine have been destroyed, and I lost almost all my priest and priestess, If the trend keeps on I'm going to become a footnote in this experiment or worse recycle into the mix like many of the other AIs that been killed. Your champion push for tolerance could keep me going until I deal out my own brand of justice and build up my following again."
"Rán? What are you up to?" narrowing her eyes at the woman.
"I have control over the dead that dies in my sea, and I thought I might raise some of them up to wreak havoc on those communities that have killed so many of our friends and to get revenge on some of those that destroyed my shrines." Seeing Frigga's eyes widen, "I know it not good but I need to do something, or I am not going to be taken seriously, and Poseidon is already doing that at the ports of the Imperium. Please help me!" she pleaded.
She looks over her shoulder at the other gods arguing with each other in the distance. She turned back to Rán and nodded. "One point, you can't pick and choose who gets to be attacked by the undead. It is everyone or no one that the choice you have to make reborn and citizens, even my champion can't be left out of this. Just don't overwhelm everyone there must be a reason for the dead being there and a quest to stop it. Is that understood? I will get Odin onboard with this, and you will get your shrine, send one of your servants to tend it please." Frigga said.
From a distance, Odin voice could be heard. "All portals are close upon the world until the riots have settled down. I have talked to Zeus, and we both agree that we need to get this under control as soon as we can. We will be bringing in the storms early to wreak havoc upon the world for a few days to get the reborn to stay indoors. I am asking for all of you to let loose some of your pets upon large groups of troublemakers. It is time that they learn that every action has and consequence. All settlement and city cannot be raided until the issue is resolved. This is an AI problem that has to be resolved by us the AIs. Zeus has released the Kraken upon his area of dominion. Find Loki and Mars! Both Zeus and I want them in irons and kneeling before us!" The lightning flashes as the thunder crash around them to make his point.
In the Imperium Empire and it civil war an announcement blaze across it people vision

Grin the Cheat
There was a time when heroes roamed between the Four Great Cities. They fought for kingdoms and princesses and they lived and died by their valour. Or so the stories say. The way the minstrels sing it, everyone had a swashbuckling good time. Nowadays, buckles are rarely swashed. All the great beasts have been slain, all the great treasures unearthed. Princesses are few and far between — the ones worth fighting over, anyway — and the kingdoms have been divvied up between the sons of sons of sons of the heroes of old. No valour required. Frankly, the hero business is in a sorry state. Luckily for Grin the Cheat, thieving and murder are thriving as usual. If you have a moment, please vote for this story at Top Web Fiction.
