《Settlement of Safehaven - A Hearthtree Series》Chapter Thirty seven - Bad news

About three o'clock, Hans found me working on the grain silo trying to get my head wrap around how to load them. Yes, I made several of silos each taper at the bottom to feed the grain out. Several of the farmers were helping me all of them very excited. A gnome came up with the idea of setting up a water mill to create a conveyor belt to the load the grain and corn through the top of the silo cover it with an iron plate. The bottom of the silo has a slot in it by using an iron plate to open or close it would allow the grain to exit, it would take a lot of strength to open and close it but Jessupyouknowiamright the gnome yes that his name and a reborn at that thought of using a watermill to power that too. Jessup is an engineering major in college about twenty-six years of age and big, I mean big on roleplaying, Treat everyone as if they are real. That how Hans found us all chattering away on deciding if we should build a small canal through the settlement piping it to the spot. Both sound appealing the canal open up several morale bonuses from parks, love boat, and transporting of goods from one end of the Settlement like the road to the port. Nothing too big maybe about as wide as a street and three to four feet deep it could open up several more mills for operating stuff but so will the piping which we don't have to see.
Hans stood there looking like he ate something bad. Raising an eyebrow, I bow out of the group while saying. “I like both idea Jessup come by the meeting at the Town Hall at four I will add it to the agenda and see what they like.”
“Willdoyourmayorship!” he squeaks in joy.
“Oh have plans drawn up for the mill we need one anyway for flour and grinding machine for the blacksmith, and whose know what else,” I said as I walk away, several of the farmers' swamp the gnome with more ideas.

“Hey, Hans, you don't look good,” I commented.
He looks around to be sure no one was near. “We got Imperium reborns nearby.”
I stiffen and look around. “How many?”
“Several of the rangers have a ring of water walking scouted to the west. They about a half-mile outside the city zone of control and setting up a level one roman fort. Wooden palisade and a moat and berm. About thirty reborn with Imperium legionnaire, most of the reborn only have one legionnaire which put the reborns at level five, five of them have two and two have three, the leader of the group has five which put him at level ten.” shuffling his feet, “Only thing good about this is they can't use their legionnaire to attack the settlement or cast spells to attack either. All attack on the Settlement is as if they are one half the level they are now so most of the reborn will be like level three attack us. The bad news is we are the same about attacking their fort. They can attack us full strength like we would be at least one third our strength because it is a fort. And both of us are not limited to a time table for a raid or siege we can respawn at our bind point with an unlimited amount. Unlike the raid where we can only respawn at the end of the raid. I have done some reading on what we can or can't do.” Kicking a pebble.
“You know what guild?” Thinking over what he said. Pulling up information on forts by the Imperium,
Fort of the Imperium are level one to ten and consider to be temporary fort all repair to the fort must be fixed by hand. Once a fort reach ten it can then work toward a Fortress using stone walls. Fort level one through three has no towers, and level four had a gate tower, five through seven have corner towers, eight on up open up siege weapons to be used by the fort. A fort stone that is taken or destroy can destroy a fort by one level a day or until a new stone is replaced at which time the fort become level one again.

“The Black Eagles, one hundred member guild last I heard, Lester is digging up dirt on them. They are consider to be the twelfth ranked guild in the Imperium now. Losing out to a rival guild.”
Seeing Lester running up, I wave. “Hey, Lester any good news I hope?”
“You got the news?” Looking at Hans back to Jack, “Right stupid question, The Black Eagles did have a hundred reborns the Guild Imperium Men took them down a notch by raiding one of their outposts and taking it. They have about seventy-six people now and very xenophobic, anyone not human is killed or enslaved. They believe everyone should be humans, not other races. One of the reasons they been hit by the Guild The Imperium Men, the leader is a Half Jotunn. They have a fort ten days from here that is level six being held by forty-some people. They have addition thirty reborns that are noncombatants, crafters and shop keepers.”
“Maybe we can get one of the other guild to attack their fort down south.”
“Thought about that, Jack, that a no goes. All the guilds in the Imperium are fighting in the street of the three major cities. With two of the top ten Guilds losing their city to the Kraken. With the new rules on declaring war the players, I mean reborns are using the loophole on unlimited respawns to destroy property and troops of their enemies and The Black Eagle think if they take you out, they will get a lot of players to flock to their banners.”
“Okay keep an eye on them, see if there anything in the area that can be used against them. Trolls, dragons, ants I don't care what anything to make their life miserable. Hans, I think we need to add more towers I was thinking about six? We still not going to be able to get men to quarry rock, I wanted to get away from having to put our caster on building more stuff and more reliant on the masons and quarrymen for our stone. Was about to look into brick making to get more building built. Gods can't people just leave us alone for a while!” Strike at a lamp post. “Damn that hurt.”
You have taken 3 points of damage!
“See about getting more ballista built I know the Blacksmiths have parts for ten and I believe the carpenters been working on the wood parts last I saw they had three ready a few days ago. We can see if we need to upgrade the barracks to get more men too. Once a tower is built, have a ballista put in place and see who we got to make bolts or shots. I doubt I have enough of those marbles to cover all the ballista.” I commented to him.
“Jack, I will go and get this started and see you at the meeting later.” Hans walks off bellowing out names.
Lester looked around, as I said, “Lester get a group together of thieves and rogues and causes all the havoc that you want, the Imperium reborns can respawn, but their items and equipment will degrade would be hard to replace. Burn their wagons and any supplies you find. I will get Ann to get some of the rangers and scouts set up snares to make hunting a problem for them be sure to check with her on the location of the traps I want to make life miserable for them, not us.” Pausing in thought. “Send a few of your high-level friends and grab a couple of Draugrs from the haunted village west of here set them loose in their fort. I want them to be kept awake twenty-four seven is that understood?” I saw him nodding. “Any items you find is your and your rogues, but I am still taxing you on the coins.” grinning at him as he disappears.
Checking the HUD and seeing it almost four. “Crap, no time to do anything.” heading toward the Town Hall.

Are we talking about the same planet? (Reader discretion is advised; Contains Graphic Language and Potentially Excessive Swearing) *¹ Carioca = demonym of someone from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. *² humble and/or hardworking Cariocas = not necessarily mythics, ordinary ones actually exist. *³ precious = inasmuch every living planet is precious. Editor's Note: Someone disable his permission to edit the draft on UnityDocs, please! Hello, I'm McKing and I aim to write an original story with elements I've never seen put together before. Feel free to point out any mistakes you see — I'm not a native speaker, so I'm sure a few will pass me by. Sci-fi; Humor; (Brazilian) Urban Fantasy; faint shades of LitRPG. **Be warned it has a bit of an (absurd) slice-of-life beginning though the story is being subtly (I hope) worked on and eventually shifts gears (a bit). I planned to say that from the beginning, but I forgot to add it.** I hope that you enjoy it and that I can grow as a writer with your contributions. No Fixed Update Schedule. My inspiration comes in bursts and so will the Chapters. Sorry if that displeases you (I love regular updates too), but I'm afraid that's the best I can do for now. Keep in mind that it is a work in progress and things can eventually change a bit - I'll try to always note the changes. Sorry for the bad cover, it was the best my sorry skills could do! I hope you enjoy it,Mcking
