《Primal Adaptation》Chapter 34 [Flesh and Crystal -2-]

Both the Lizard and Crystal began working together in this inhospitable place. They were trying to secure the area of Nurns before the sunlight disappeared on the horizon. Basil hated the cold of the night, so he rested near the pools to maintain his heat. Because the temperature didn’t affect Auriz, she didn’t notice the cold. She instead preferred to practice some abilities she got from the snow wisps.
Basil observed Auriz practice submerged in one of the hot pools. She enjoyed doing forms of ice most of the time. Basil wondered why he couldn’t materialize stuff like her, and he was a little jealous of that fact. Still, he was happy she was here again.
“Why do you keep looking in my direction?”
“Because I want to do that too, but I don’t think I can make things appear like you.”
“We already talked about this. It’s called affinity, and because of what I am, it is easier for me to do this. For example, I would like to create protection and weapons for my body like you do. But I can only take materials to make a body instead, so each has something that makes it special.”
“Still, it would be nice to shoot snow or ice.”
“You can do something like that, but we need to find something as an example. Anyway, I am curious about something too. What are those crystals you have in your chest and head?”
“I don’t know. I was born with them. Sometimes they help me discern what something it’s made of.”
“How so?”
“When I was weaker, I tried to eat one of the giant mushrooms. They had a horrible taste, but my crystals lit a deep green after I ate them like some ... How would you call it?”
“Analysis?”
“Yes, something like that!”
“Hm, Basil. What if you can do something different but still interesting?”
“Like what?”
“Have you tried infusing your bones with those crystals of yours?”
“Say what?”
“Is like what I do. I infuse myself with the sky blue energy to create these ice spikes.” — Told Auriz while creating one of the Ice Spikes in the air.
“Can I do that?” — Asked Basil, moving his tail, excited at the possibility.

“Not exactly, no. Because you are an organic, you can’t externalize the energies within you. But you could infuse your body with them instead.”
“And how do I do that?”
“That’s the question...”
“So, it’s hopeless.”
“Don’t be like that. Try doing this for starters.” — Auriz charged herself with Ice energies changing her color to a Sky blue with tinges of rose."
“Hmmm, you want me to change colors? I don’t know how to do that yet, I only change colors when I grow.”
“... Basil, sometimes I question how you survived to this point. Look, try to infuse your crystals with whatever energy you have inside. First feel them and then try to show them in your crystals.”
“So, you want me to concentrate?”
“Basil, focus on the task.”
Basil closed his eyes and focused his mind on his crystals. There was something inside the transparent cores Basil didn’t notice before. Small spheres or lines of different colors floating in a secluded space.
“There are various things inside of the crystals, of different colors and feelings too.”
“That’s good. Can you describe them to me?”
“There is a big colorless sphere floating in the middle. I felt calm being near it.”
“That must be the Asther inside of you. I have that too. That’s your pure energy. Anything else?”
“There are some lines of energy floating on the outskirts of the space. One of them is white like bones and feels lifeless, like a hollow shell. It tries to tail another line with intense color, and this one feels… corrupted?”
“That’s weird. Do they hurt you when you touch them?”
“No, they are a part of me, but they are weak compared to the others in the space.”
“What else you have there?’
“Something is trying to make a form and has a strong blue color, feels like a lot of things together. I can’t discern it. A line of a different hue of blue is rotating around it; this one feels wet.”
“That’s water energy and the other must be a Mother energy, even I don’t know what are those. Anything else you see?”
“There are two orbs and a line rotating around a bigger one, but this one, it’s not complete.”

“Can you describe to me the incomplete one?”
“No, the feeling it’s too complex, I don’t get it.”
“What about the other ones?”
“The line is a bright green. It feels robust, delicate, and with life, like a plant. One orb is a murky green, and it feels acidic, toxic, altered, mutated, capable of killing and giving life. What do those words even mean?”
“That must be toxic energy, and it seems to be complete for what you tell me. You have another one complete, doesn’t it?”
“Yes, this one is gray, like rock. It feels hard, moldable, heavy, strong of change and protection. Auriz, why do I know those words!? What even is ‘Moldable’!?"
“Relax, is the influence of Asther. It is giving you knowledge to understand what you have now.”
“Does it always feel this intrusive!? WHY DO I KNOW MORE WORDS!?” — Basil was panicking at the injection of knowledge he was experiencing. He submerged in the pool to stop thinking.
“Rookie.” — Said Auriz, seeing the scene with humor.
After some minutes, Basil calmed himself and got out of the pool.
“I am well now. It is like this for you always?”
“It’s different. In my case, I know when I am going to receive the information and accept it, you weren’t that lucky. At least you learned something new. Now, can you tap into one of those full energies of yours?”
“Let me see” — Basil concentrated once more and touched the Mineral energy.
“I am touching the gray energy now. Is something distinct outside?”
“You could say that. Your crystals are gray now, and your energy feels heavy, but nothing surprising for the moment.”
“What about now?” — Basil changed to the Toxic energy.
“This one is interesting. Your cores are now green, and your energy feels dirty, like when you contaminate something. In both cases, the power felt weak because you never use them. Can you try to pass that feeling to another part of your body?”
“Like my Bones?”
“You could try that. Let’s search for something to hit.”
Both got up and looked for a boulder to use as practice.
“Right, this one should do. Now you must infuse your body or your bones in this case, with either of those energies.”
“And how am I supposed to do that?”
“Well, this is the weird part. You can use this as an example.” — Auriz infused herself again with Ice energy. But this time she tinted a part of snow with her same color and moved it around her with perfect precision.
“You can call this Infusion. I injected my Asther into this snowball and saturated it with energy. Infusing grants it more Ice properties, so it should be colder or something like that. I am not sure yet, this is a new ground for me too. Now Basil, try doing it with your bones.”
Basil focused once more, drawing from inside the crystals the Toxic energy. Basil tried to infuse all his bones with the concentrated Toxic Asther in place. This resulted to be a bad idea because he didn’t have the same control as Auriz. Basil’s body got damaged because of the effort of pressing his only conduit.
“What was that!!” — Said Basil while puking blood and trembling from the pain.
“Mmm, it seems you have to be more careful when trying to circulate energy when you are an organic.”
“You think!?” — Expelled Basil, hissing in pain.
“Calm down. We don’t even know what we are doing, and our knowledge it’s poor. These experiments are only guesses of how you can use what you already have. I am not organic, remember!?” — Shouted Auriz, outing an intense rose outwards, showing her annoyance.”
“You are right, but wouldn’t this kill me if I use it wrong?”
“That’s true, and not all your body is a conduit for energy like mine. Humph, why don’t you try doing it slow, like drops of water.”
“You think that would work?”
“Who knows? We are guessing, remember?”
“Right. Well, while I try this without dying, do you want to learn something from me?”
“Now that you mention it, there is something I need help with.”
