《PROJECT CYPHER》* V2 (CH 35) - Chapter 58 – Harvest Ball Ⅷ

#32 smiles widely unable to hide the smile of glee on his face as he chases his beloved just like old times. #017 leaps towards the wall and grabs the corpse propped up against it and tosses it into the air behind her as a shield. The corpse shudders under the impact of bullets, before disintegrating into a splattered mist.
Right on her trail, #32 slides to a stop as the pink mist clear. The hallway was silent and empty only faintly ringing with the echoes of the bullets. #32 carefully steps forward kicking the corpses over as he keeps his weapons ready to fire at the slightest sound. The hallway is a dead end, but just before the end of the hallway is an open window.
#32 nears the open window and glances down, nothing could be seen. The height of the fall would have maybe hurt #017, but nothing that would have left lasting damage. Frowning #32 clicks his tongue against his teeth and lets out a disappointed, tsk-tsk as he stretches his head out for a better look.
And that was exactly what #017 had been waiting for. Having been holding onto the underneath ledge, #017 swings herself up and wraps her legs around #032’s neck. #32 drops his weapons and tries to break the choking hold as #017 pulls herself back up. #32 digs his fingers into her knee joints enough to damage the tendons and slams his elbow repeatedly into her stomach trying to break the hold, a promising cracking sound is heard from her ribcage after a few blows.
#017 manages to finally grasp the window ledge and immediately loosen her leg neck choke hold. #32 didn’t miss a beat and instantly dove back inside into the hallway. #32 dives for the fallen semi-automatic weapons and fires at the window. The glass window shatters loudly spraying him with glass shards. Bleeding from his face, #32 wipes his bleeding face with his white jacket sleeve.

#32 stares warily at the stark empty sight before him. With guns firmly pointed forward, #32 peeks down below and sees nothing. #32 points the weapon upwards and fires rapidly, but upon glancing upwards there is nothing. #32 glances around once more, before spotting an open window on the floor above.
Grinning #32 reloads and charges down the hallway making his way towards the staircase leading to the next floor. #32 rounds the corner and freezes upon seeing the familiar face of 56 walking down the hallway. 56 nervously reaches for her weapon at her back and stops. “I’m not here to play, I’m just running an errand,” 56 nervously said at seeing that wild, frenzied look in #32’s eyes. His demeanor practically screamed he would kill her if she dared to touch his toy.
#32 studies the anxious expression of 56 for a moment before saying, “Stay away from the floor above.” 56 nods in relief as #32 passes her only to tense up as he stops directly next to her and whispers into her ear, “I won’t be held responsible for what happens if you choose to disobey.”
56 is left shivering in the wake of the haunting words of #32 as the sound of his footsteps fade away. 56 warily removes her hand from her weapon and glances down at her the GPS location of the package. With only a minute to spare, 56 moves rapidly down the hallway until she reaches the location. 56 frowns at seeing the red-robed corpse that was the package.
56 grabs the corpse by the foot and beings to drag it away until a persist GPS beeping causes her to stop. Why wasn’t the package moving? 56 glances back to see the pale face of a young male student. 56 suddenly moves forward and kneels on the bloody ground pressing her hand to the boy’s neck. A faint pulse was still there, the boy was still alive.

56 reaches for the unconscious boys VEX watch and a bright GPS beacon is flashing. 56 curses under her breath and snarls to herself, “You could have said I was picking up a living package!” 56 with a grunt hefts the still boy onto her shoulders and jogs down the hallway.
Suddenly the sound of cheers can be heard down in the direction of the ballroom. Rethinking her strategy, 56 jogs towards the ballroom with ease down the corpse-filled passageways. Cautiously emerging into the ballroom, 56 sees the first aid Esper teams arriving. From outside the sound of battle can still be heard as the Alpha Esper Teams chase down the fleeing assailants.
56 leans down and dips her hand into a pool of blood. Wiping blood from her face and clothes, 56 screams, “Please help! Someone help!”
Glancing upward, the reinforcements instantly train their weapons on the source of the sound. Professor Ibis glances up and shouts, “Wait, that’s Tanya, she’s a student in my class!”
The security forces slightly lower their arms and advance towards her. 56 aka Tanya weakly says, “He’s been hurt. I tried to help him.”
A security member puts his hand under the pale boy’s neck and waits. “He’s still alive and in need of critical care!” The security guard shouts and leans down to pick up the pale body of the unknown student, before rushing down the stairs and out the ballroom towards the emergency first aid tents being set up on the recreational fields.
Tanya tearfully sniffles and makes her way towards Professor Ibis. “Professor Ibis, I was so scared,” Tanya tearfully said. After glancing around, Tanya curiously says, “Where’s Matron Tilly?”
Professor Ibis hair and clothing were in disarray and covered in blood with minor scratches. “She’s trying to verify student’s location and statues,” Professor Ibis replied.
Tanya nods her head sagely as Professor Ibis says, “Weren’t you left behind in the dorms? I thought you weren’t going to come?”
Tanya sheepishly says, “Ruby was coming to the ball and she made it sound so grand. I thought it couldn’t hurt to just take a peek and then leave.”
Professor Ibis demeanor softens as he puts a hand on Tanya’s shoulder and carefully says, “I’m so sorry, honey. Ruby’s dead.”
Tanya actually stiffens in real shock. “Ruby?” Tanya said with disbelief.
“She was standing next to the doors when the monsters came in, she didn’t stand a chance,” Professor Ibis softly said.
A look of fury crosses Tanya’s face as she clutches her hands in fists with genuine rage. Professor Ibis says, “Sweetheart, how about you go to the tents with Tilly for a bit.”
Tanya nods before saying, “What about you?”
“There still wounded here that need to be taken to the tents. I’m going to help here,” Professor Ibis replied.
“Then I want to stay too and help,” Tanya firmly stated.
“Are you sure?” Professor Ibis worriedly asked. Tanya firmly nods her head in reply. “Alright, then start by banding those you can and finding the critically wounded. We need to get those individuals first aid as soon as possible,” Professor Ibis answered, before moving out to help with Tanya in tow.
