《Re:Direction The Peak (Cultivation Tale)》CH. 349

Jin did not move.
He stood where he was, close to the sole exit.
Yes, he did not wish to fight.
And, yes, since the array was activated, the people within would die in a matter of minutes if not seconds.
However, there was something much more important to him. This man belonged to the Demonic Sect. He could not let him go. Not because he was a hero or for some stupid reasons such as saving more people by killing him now.
Of course not.
It was because one less fighter on their side out there would mean that Ame had that much more chances to win. What this man planned to do after leaving this room was unknown but the possibility that he would go fight and help his sect mates was not zero. As long as it existed, he needed to take it into account.
And right now, Jin...The only life he cared about was Ame's.
Liao Hu was dumbfounded. He could not understand why this man remained there. Time was tickling! People were dying! Was he not here to save them?!
Liao Hu hurried him: "They're going to die if you don't move now!"
Jin remained unfazed.
Liao Hu's forehead began to sweat. With every drop of blood flowing down the funnel, it was one less drop in the bodies of the people there. And blood was flowing quickly right now.
There was no time!
Those were the only hostages he had. If they all died, he would be forced to fight his way out as he would no longer have any leverage. He gritted his teeth and took out his weapon. A grade-1 war axe. He glared at Jin and stated: "So be it"
Since this man wanted to play like that then he would join him in this game. However, since he was going to fight, he decided to try to get the psychological advantage over his opponent: "They are all going to die because of you!"

Jin snickered.
Liao Hu was flabbergasted. He never thought a man from the lawful sides of things could be so cruel. Weren't they all supposed to be pushovers who would do everything in their power to save others?
He could not help but ask: "Do you really not care about those innocents?!"
Jin stated: "I am not here to be a hero but to kill a villain"
That was the truth.
Jin did not care about those strangers. He felt nothing about them. His only focus was the man in front of him. He had to make sure he did not go reinforce the other sect members up there.
If a single man could tip the balance, why didn't he go? Because one had to take into account that in group fights, 1+1 did not always equal to two. There were some techniques requiring more than one cultivator to execute.
The 11th Squad had no such things.
But what about this sect? He did not know! So, he did not want to take a risk. He could defeat this man here but defeating outside? It was no longer certain! As such, it was best to fight him one-on-one here.
While they glared at each other and their thoughts kept fluctuating, blood was flowing, turned into purple liquid and dropping into the pool after passing through the strange entity.
After a minute, there were only a few wails of despair resounding throughout the room.
And a few seconds after that, there were no more.
It did not take much longer for the purple liquid to completely stop flowing.
They were all dead.
Liao Hu had not yet acted as he believed that the man would have acted at some point to save the people. He thought of this as a game of chicken. He never expected this man in front of him to truly be cruel enough to not care at all about those lives.

Since there were no longer any hostages, he had no more options. As such, he had no reasons to wait anymore.
Jin understood this point too.
Both men circulated their spiritual energy and rushed at each other.
Jin's sword was filled to the brim with all of his power. Corruption, Fear, Will, Compression... He could not keep any cards hidden. This was a man whose cultivation was four stages higher than him!
Yet, as they clashed, Jin was the one sent flying away.
He stabilized himself mid-air as Liao Hu moved forward to him. They clashed again. This time, Jin was in a worst spot. Being mid-air, going backwards... He could only try to defend and redirect as much of the force as he could. He still flew away even further.
He landed right next to the stairway with only a second to prepare himself for another clash. The weight of the axe bore on him as the overhead slash took his all to defend. He was forced to the side.
Liao Hu did not pursue him but instead decided to flee. His goal was to grab the treasures in the hidden hall and run away. He had to be quick about it now that he made up his mind.
As for Jin, after he was stable, he rushed forward after Liao Hu, planning to attack him from behind.
Liao Hu was fast but Jin was as well. What's more, Jin's movement technique was of a far higher quality. He was able to keep up with the man's pace and began to launch spiritual attacks at him from behind. Long range was not Jin's specialty? It was not. But his colorful spear title was not for show either.
Liao Hu was forced to pause and defend. His eyes reddened in fury as he realized that he would only be able to flee after truly ending this man's life. It seemed like this bastard was intent on going after his life. He could only answer him in kind!
Liao Hu turned around.
Within the staircase, dodging his axe was not going to happen. He would end this man's life quickly since he dared to throw it away.

Steps of the Immortal Tree
Evan stood on a hill, staring calmly at the gate of his former clan. A crowd waited behind him, some eyeing the clan in an unresigned manner, others looking at their spiritual support. Some of the young children shivered at the gnawing cold. Wind howled in his ears, seemingly deploring his fate. A silvery cloud drifted over the mountains surrounding the compound. The roar of a river could be heard from underneath its frozen surface. He had reincarnated many years ago. Hailed as a prodigy from his youngest age, Evan had seemingly tread on a path to invincibility. He had gotten married with his childhood sweetheart and had cultivated with a group of friends, forming a considerable power of his own. Yet now, here he was, devoid of any path to move forward, with his energy locus destroyed. His wife was dead and his branch had been kicked out of the clan. He looked at his progeny that had been entrusted to him. The baby seemed content in his father’s strong arms, too young to understand anything but the warmth of the father’s beating heart. Signaling to the people behind him, he turned around and the procession gradually disappeared in the distance, as the sun gradually set and the stars acted as a guide. --- Author-san here. I originally started this novel on another account, but lost the login information for it, so I'll be restarting this story here. Thanks for understanding! This is my first fiction, so I appreciate any and all feedback! (^^) The cover picture is by Yuji Himukai (as pointed out by Truis). I found it on the internet. Please contact me if you want to have it taken down. If anyone is interested in drawing a cover, send it to me. I'll put it up if I feel it represents the book well, with your name in the credits.

Connections to another world opened up. Humans with powers made of the wildest imaginations, stepped out of them, calling themselves cultivators. Naturally, earth’s population went into an uproar. One piece of information created an especially great stir. The cultivators were there to pick disciples. Millions rushed to them, and Blair wanted to be one of them. There was just one problem. His lord father was strictly against interaction with those magical beings. He always dreaded a foreign power gaining influence in his court. Well, the old man never changes, and now it was the same as ever. His sister wasn´t even allowed to study abroad. However, all his senses told Blair that the future lay in the cultivator's hands. His plan was to gain knowledge, power, and maybe influence. Then he would return. One night he simply vanished in the darkness, away from his father’s claws. Will he succeed? That is hard to tell. The immortal world is an unforgiving place, even worse than earth. It’s just that Blair doesn’t know that yet. Can he survive there, and gain a footing in the new era of qi and godly hermits? Only time will tell, and Blair has to fight for every minute. Authors note: Give the story a try. It’s my personal blend of qi, cultivation, and struggles of morality and power. If I can deliver on all that is another question, but I will give it my best. As a further note, I am not using any of the usual strict realms and extreme power differences. It’s more about gathering and refining qi. Whoever uses his chances, sneak attacks, intuitions, and skills in a better way wins. However, having more or better qi will help, but I am not at a point where I have written a lot of that, so I might promise too much. Thanks for reading so far and checking my synopsis out, now you might give the story a try. Have fun. The picture is from JCK5D (Pixabay)

Zeke Herald, Goblin Slayer
Zeke wakes up inside a small cavemouth, no memories or direction, just the will to live. Also, he's smack dab in the middle of a forest that's teeming with ugly little goblins. The only good goblin is one with a sword sticking out of it, as my father used to say. I tried to incorperate LitRPG elements. I'm only recently introduced to the genre, but I find it really fasinating! So intrigued I even started writing a little story expressing my joy of all things numerical! This story has a focus on hardwork and deliberate progression, no magical deus ex machinas here sorry.
