《Fun and magic》Chapter 9-Seasons pass

"Yeah ", Jason nodded, "The tree that connects the nine realms in Norse mythology. "
Mr Ollivander nodded appreciatively
"You're well informed, yes indeed. And do you know the alternative name people call it. "
Jason thought for a bit, while his parents looked on in confusion from the side. And then, it suddenly hit him.
"The tree of life! " he exclaimed suddenly, scaring his parents who were looking at him, and eliciting a smile from Mr Ollivander.
He tried to connect the dots, his abnormal magic power, his weird abilities and how he always felt close to nature. And then he suddenly thought about the old tree from his previous life, the one he had fallen into.
That ugly tree was the tree of life, you really can't judge a book by it's cover.
And then looking at his wand again.
So my wand, it should be a part of it right?, and those abnormal dreams I've been having, that must have been the tree in it's heyday
Thinking till here, Jason couldn't help but feel pity now. Since the tree looked like that when he died, it must have also been dying.
And my wand, and this new life, must have been a parting gift.
He suddenly felt a sense of frustration. But then he quickly regained himself, and made a promise, deep inside of his heart.
One day, when I'm powerful enough. I'll make you thrive again, every branch will contain a new world, and every root, a different universe.
And your canopy, will cast a shadow on the Heavens!
Jason didn't notice that when he made that declaration, the wand in his hand glowed softly, neither did his parents, or Mr Ollivander.

Somewhere far far away, a different universe practically. Below a steep cliff, stood an old tree.

It's cracked roots broke through the ground, and it's bark looked weathered and brittle.
It had almost no leaves, and looked rather lonely. There was nothing else growing around it you see, not even a blade of grass, no insects or animals either.
This was where the "almost" came in. On one of the branches of the tree, where it seemed like one of it was broken off. A lone leaf grew there, the only color in an otherwise colorless world. An oddity.
The leaf was gently trembling, which was weird, since there was no wind.
You see, this tree stood in a small valley. Surrounded by mountains that gathered perfectly around it, like the mouth of a volcano.
Like the mountains themselves were protecting it. Or hiding it.
Now what wasn't mentioned was, surrounding this valley, was a whole parade of animals. In the sky, on the land, and even in the rivers surrounding it. Every type of animal that you could think of. From eagles to swallows, lions to cats, even sharks.
All of them were surrounding the valley, those that were the closest, were different though, they seemed, older, more powerful than the rest. Species that had never been seen before by humans. The progenitors.
They were standing in a perfect circle on the edge of the mountaintops, quietly staring at the lone leaf, that was gently trembling.
Then, suddenly in this quiet valley, where no sound had been heard in a long long time, there was a gentle snap. It was particurlarily loud in this quiet atmosphere.
The animals at the forefront's eyes suddenly locked onto something.
It was particularly glaring in this dull environment.
The leaf had fallen...
It fell particularly slowly, like time and the laws of physics didn't apply to it. To some it may feel like a lifetime, and to others, it may happen in a second.

When it was finally close to the ground, just centimeters away. A gentle wind suddenly came into the valley, it revolved around the tree a few times, and then it softly picked up the leaf, like a mother would pick up it's child.
And then in the eyes of all the animals surrounding the valley, it took the leaf into the sky.
The animals looked silently as the leaf was taken away. And then the ones at the forefront, the progenitors, suddenly howled, it was a long and grieving one. The other animals all just silently looked on. Even as the leaf disappeared from site, the progenitors still howled, as if they wouldn't stop until a lifetime had passed.
Gently and slowly the leaf fell, and gently and slowly it rose. Dissapearing into the sky, to a place far far away.
And if you looked into the valley again, right in the middle, where a particularly odd tree stood. All you would find now would be empty land.

When Jason seemed to be done reminiscing. Mr Ollivander proceeded to explain all he knew about The Tree of Life, and how he thought Jason's wand was a part of it. Jason knew all this now though, but he still listened, as not to miss anything.
Mr Ollivander explained a lot to the Rileys too, telling them how important Jason's wand was and also explaining the unfortunate events that happened previously. When he was done, The Rileys were ready to leave...
When Jason went out the door, he suddenly had the urge to hold his arm out.
As he did, a leaf, as normal as any other, slowly fell into the palm of his hand.
Jason didn't know why, but he suddenly felt his heart aching. He could feel the same grief from his wand as well. His eyes got watery, and a tear slowly dropped down to the pavement.
Looking at the leaf, Jason slowly closed his hand. When he opened it, the leaf was gone, as if it were never there in the first place.
"What's wrong honey? ", Mrs Riley asked anxiously, Jason had suddenly stopped, and it looked like he was crying. She knew he never cried, so she suddenly got anxious.
"Nothing mum, I just suddenly felt down is all. "
Saying that, he smiled with a trace of grief, and walked on.

Cutting to Life: an NPC LitRPG (Battle Royale)
Nikola is an NPC in The World of Wills, a video game where players can feel sensations as if they were truly there. She leads a life of bloodshed and murder - that is, until one day she wakes up sapient. Just as she begins thinking real, non-scripted thoughts and making connections, she and the players in the game are told that if they die in the game, they die in real life - and it's time to get killing. But what of Nikola, the emerging AI consciousness? How does she win in a game that can only end in her being wiped from existence at the end of it all? - Updates Mondays and Fridays. Cutting to Life is a slow-burn LitRPG with a villainous (later anti-hero, or maybe still villainous, haha) female lead. It's told from the perspective of Nikola, an NPC within the World of Wills who's become sapient and is now mysteriously able to play the game as a PC. It's quite light for a LitRPG, but the system and stats become more of a focus later when Nikola herself can access them. The story gradually builds into a Battle Royale where the players' lives are on the line (if you die in the game, you die in real life), and only one party of savvy adventurers can win. They'll have to spend their time and stats wisely as dungeons promising rare gear float down from the sky - but is a legendary sword worth killing someone for, knowing they'll stay dead forever? - This story is told in third person, past tense.- This is a slow-burn LitRPG that spends a lot of time establishing its setting and characters, because I believe this will make for a better payoff in the end. As such, the Battle Royale doesn't start until chapter 30 or so.- Chapters are anywhere between 800 words and 3000 words long.- Book cover by Vixeona.Cutting to Life is also being posted on SPB and Scribble Hub.Thank you sincerely for reading.
