《Arcana》Chapter 18 - I Haven't Seen Me In A While
Advertisement
When I woke up, I found myself inside a dark and damp space. My vision slowly returned then as I looked around, there were different fruits, vegetables and of course-
dead bodies… of monsters
I thought this was a prison hold but it seems that I was mistaken, this is most definitely a food storage…
They probably thought that I was dead, given how exhausted I was from staying up all night.
Now that I can see somewhat clearly, the place I was in had pillars made of stone without an exit… how did they put me in here?
The stone pillars were sturdy to boot but-
I got this.
I wrapped my fist with arcana then followed by my arm to reduce the impact on my body. I punched the pillars from the side to hit multiple pillars with one blow and it worked.
I got out but when I followed the path going outside, there was a threat at the entrance of this monsters’ den. It was an enormous humanoid monster with a bone that looks like a club.
Hmmm… guess I’ll call it a Goliath.
The Goliath was angry but looking at the place I entered, there aren’t any monsters but why is there a monster that looks like a predator, wary of its surroundings?
STOMP
STOMP
T-THE ROCKS MOVED!
Inside the monsters’ base, there were rock piles, I didn’t expect them to be monsters!
When they stomped their foot forward, almost simultaneously, the ground surrounding the Goliath formed into straight beams that pierced through it
HOW SICK IS THAT?!
At that moment… I also realized the danger I was in.
Before they notice that, I have to escape, I have to run!
I filled my body with electricity then lunged myself forward with all my strength…
That was easy…

Those monsters were terrifyingly strong but absolutely slow.
They looked like rock shaped geckos so I’ll call them Rockleon…
When I see one in the vicinity I should run, yeah…
Now, moving forward again.
.
.
.
It’s been about 2 weeks since that incident and things are moving normally now… well, I wouldn’t say normal but it’s back to how it usually is in this forest.
Stronger monsters appear the further I get, this probably means that I’m approaching Narra.
Vin and Ellie talk about their adventures before and they said that the closer you get to Narra, the stronger the monsters get, somewhat like a system on how you have to get stronger in every scenario.
My progress has been steady and my arcana has become obedient.
I could contract or expand my arcana but its original state is always dense.
My arc has gone about 5 times its original size, this place is crazy.
Each time I slept, my consciousness was awake, absorbing the knowledge planted by Hosea.
I’ve been learning a lot lately, mostly about power… I thought that only arcana was the force that governs the world but I was wrong.
The power from the soul, the power of the environment, the power magic and a lot more. I’ve been a frog living inside a well this whole time.
I stop my travels from time to time in order to try out the knowledge I acquired but my progress was slow since I had no examples to follow.
The seed of greed in me hasn’t showed any signs of budding yet so I have to wait patiently.
A power that feeds off your emotions… how tedious.
Emotions aren’t something that can be controlled after all.
Enough of that for now…
Since today… I finally found-
WATER!
I can finally take a bath after a long time, I smell like crap.

Before I took a bath, I circled the area to check for threats then the moment that I was about to check the water…
I realized that it’s been a while since the last time I saw my face-
“My hair… is white…?”
WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN?!
More importantly, all my blemishes and scars are gone, all gone! My hair is somewhat longer…
How to describe it…
I look fe-fe-fe-feminine…
“…”
Let’s not go there.
I look like one of those fancy noble brats…yeah, that’s one way to look at it!
Still, my appearance changed this much, will they recognize me when I return home?
Well, if I make it out alive, that is.
After appraising my reflection, I surveyed the water and there were no problems. I took a looooooooooong pleasant bath until darkness came…
Huh? Why is there night and day without a sun?

Constructive critism is welcome! However please do not just bash my story as I do put a lot of effort into it. I want to make an enjoyable story for myself as well as all of you. UPDATES TUES/THURS after chapter 5 Cover art by Tumblr User: @pigeon-princess This book features characters that are related to in many ways to my other novel "Grimoire". While both stories are their own stand alone series, Sun God's Corruption will add a good amount of depth to Grimoire, and Grimoire shows the unfoldings of the world that will eventually come from the events in Sun God's Corruption. I reccomend reading them both interchangably.
