《Isekai Gundam (Reboot)》Episode 33: Gaian War, The First Moves (Part 5)

A single Ground Gundam was carving a bloody swath through the fleeing crusaders as they ran for the relative safety of the main camp. Eventually, it rampaged directly into the camp itself, only to be surrounded by the elites of the Crusader Coalition. The Ground Gundam did not flee like the Knight, Templar and Paladins expected that it would, instead it readied its Beam Saber and took a fighting stance. After what felt like an hour of tension, one of the Knights made his move and flew at the Ground Gundam only to be cut down with a swing of the Beam Saber. Then, like a scene out of a movie, the assembled elites began to attack all at once. With minimal effort, the Ground Gundam wove its way through the mass of bodies, cutting down every foe that stood against it. Slowly the one-golem-army reduced the numbers of elites that were in the main camp. Like a high-level character from Dynasty Warriors it almost effortlessly massacred every for that came at it.
Unfortunately, the Ground Gundam was far from perfect and over the next 30 minutes of carnage it began to take more and more damage. The first few wounds were superficial scratches that merely marred its paint-job, but over time the damage kept stacking until after 30 minutes of solid combat the Ground Gundam was on its last legs. It had killed over 10,000 elites, but now was barely able to stand on its damaged legs while one of its arms hung at its side and another had vanished into light just a few minutes earlier. Now surrounded, it seemed all hope was lost for this brave MSG that had dominated the main base for what felt like hours. Hiroyuki had since snapped out of his daze and was the one who now confronted the heavily damaged Ground Gundam.

“So much for your strength.” He said mockingly, “You and all like you are doomed to be trash and scrap for us to use. Any last heretical words before we send you back to the hell that spawned you?”
However, it wasn’t the unnamed Ground Gundam who responded. Instead, a RX-78-2 Gundam seemingly fell from nowhere down to the side of the Ground Gundam. A few K-Balls flew in and snatched the Ground Gundam and sped away with it before the shock of the RX-78-2’s arrival wore off. The Gundam watched the Balls carry away his comrade and glared at Hiroyuki with a look that could kill.
“Oh, look. Another one. Let’s wipe this one out and try to focus on a new strategy.”
Hiroyuki dismissed the Gundam that now stood before him, completely unaware that the difficulty level had spiked considerably. From the Gundam came a voice that seemed ill fitting for the man-sized machine. It sounded like the voice of a young man or possibly a teenager but was absolutely filled with rage and fury.
“You almost killed him. I won’t let you hurt anyone else. Amuro Ray, ready for combat! Here we go!”
And like that, the Crusaders were introduced to the White Devil of the Federation as Amuro sped like a bat out of hell through the foes that surrounded him. This time, not even a scratch was laid on the MSG despite several tens of minutes having passed. It was at this point that the crusaders realized their most obvious folly in regard to the Ground Gundam. They had erroneously assumed that it had been a one-of-a-kind ‘hero unit’ and was the most powerful thing that could be thrown at them. They had foolishly assumed that the Ground Gundam was the apex of the Golems that they were facing and if they could take it down they could surely defeat the other, weaker Golems. No, the Ground Gundam was just a higher-grade mass-production type unit and what was now massacring them was the true ‘hero unit’. Their attempt to damage it were now constantly backfiring as the Gundam seemed to predict with uncanny accuracy where they would strike or launch a spell and either get out of the way or use the body of another crusader as a shield.

Hiroyuki was horrified. The beam weapons from the Gundam were causing the stench of seared and burnt human flesh to spread like a wildfire, and its head-vulcans and occasional blows from conventional melee and ranged weapons spread an iron-like odor through the camp as body parts flew all around the rampaging and screaming Gundam.
“Screw this! I’m not getting made into a martyr for no one!” He screamed as he fled through the camp to the improvised stables. He quickly mounted his trusted steed and sped away from the camp toward the Grellekian Kingdom, leaving everyone behind. While some of the nobles and elites were following the example of Hiroyuki, they were not getting far due to the interference of one of Arkhan’s most fanatically groups. A squad of 11 EMS-10 Zudahs were taking out anyone who tried to run.
The ‘Blue Blurs’ as the Zudahs were called by their allies, were some of the most fanatical followers of the Church of Arkhan and were much akin to the kamikaze pilots of Imperial Japan. Their devotion to Arkhan and Arcadia was absolute, and they were proud to give their lives in service to their creator and his nation. Arkhan had repeatedly told them never to go too fast, as they would self-destruct, but despite these warnings they simply put the pedal to the metal and went as fast as they could before their engines caused them to go up in flames. They had no regard for their own life and thought that the reason Arkhan didn’t want them going that fast was because he didn’t want them to die before they accomplished their mission.
Now, one of them was prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice to make sure a VIP target couldn’t get away. Over the collective consciousness and out loud it yelled at the top of its vocabulator a final war cry.
“WITNESS ME! SEIG ARKHAN!”
And with that it locked its shield into attack mode and streaked towards Hiroyuki like a blue blur. It pushed itself to its limits and then past them as it began to tear itself apart due to its engine and construction not being well suited for each other. When Hiroyuki turned to look back at what had made that scream, he saw a burning Zudah just about to slam into him at high speeds.
The last things that went through Hiroyuki’s mind was not ‘Oh Fuck…” but rather the sharpened metal prong of the Zudah’s shield and soon after the burning form of a dying MSG.
