《WTF I'm a Dungeon!? (Dropped)》Prologue - The Final Battle *OLD*
Advertisement
In war, there are often turning points. A point in time where the outcome of one battle can determine the outcome of war and history. Now is one such turning point.
I watch the incoming army. Though I call it a turning point. If Chaos cuts their losses and reconvenes somewhere Order can't find, then we would still have hope, but I know I was lying to myself. You have a better chance of convincing a dragon to willingly hand over all their treasure than to convince all the remaining Chaos races to work together.
"Phew, they're all lining up huh.”
Beside me is a Dark Elf Mage who calmly assesses the enemy, no doubt picking the best spells to wreak mass death.
"Pfft they're probably already counting the rewards of victory, that formation looks weaker than the sand castle you made the other day," I simply reply "By the way what's the point of building an entire castle of just sand?"
"Trying to check things off my bucket list before I die and it wasn't pointless it could've drawn aggro and been a great tank!" he argued
"Again with these strange terms, are all necromancers as strange as you or did you fry your brain in an experiment?” I replied
"Heh, compared to your withering form I'm perfectly healthy!" he retorted
"I'd rather be a withering beastmen at the end of his lifespan than an 800 something year old virgin.”
"kuuu.... critical hit to dignity.” (dark elf)
Our banter continues on like it has for the last few decades and the enemy has finally finished assembling, just out of the range of any useful spell.
"Well I better be going, you know those fossils, probably can't agree longer than the time it takes to cast a fireball." (dark elf)
I watch as my friend disappear in a puft of black smoke, hopefully him and those elder maguses he mentioned will be casting something better than a fireball. Though anything he makes would be undoubtedly good albeit terrifying, I have high expectations for him the greatest Semigod Necromancer in recent centuries Kal'Zard the Mad Scholar.
But now I have my own job to do. Morale is important and in front of this hopeless battle, we needed it even more than before.
"MEN!"
"GENERAL!" (beastmen army)
"WE STAND AT THE TURNING POINT OF HISTORY!"
Though we are the wrong side of history.
"WE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR!”
"YES!" (beastmen army)
Beastmen don't fear death so we have nothing to fear.
"WE WILL WIN THIS BATTLE AND RECLAIM OUR HOMELANDS!”
Our home has already been destroyed.
"NOW STAND WITH ME! THOSE WHO FLEE ARE NOT BEASTMEN, THEY ARE COWARDLY HUMANS!”
If a general is going to send men to their deaths, he should at least stand with them till the last moment.
"YES SIR!" (beastmen army)
I watch satisfied, at the very least no one is running.
I pick up greatsword, not some fancy relic or legendary blade, just a friend who I've travelled with for countless years, who has been reforged countless times, whose handle always fit my grip.
I Shou Nuya the Beastmen Sovereign, the Last Leader of the Beastmen turn to face the enemy.
(Kal’Zard’s POV)
”What took you so long” (Elder Magus A)
”Catching up with an old friend” I replied
”If you have the leisure to waste time then you are truly foolish” the old magus sneered with a face that would make ogres cry. Too bad plastic surgery did not exist in this world.

Though I am part of this so called Dark Magus Council I had not yet bothered to learn most of their names. This so called powerful council was just another disposable pawn in the grand scheme of things. While a force of 6 Semigods (including me!) 29 Saints and 78 Legends is a sizeable sum it is ultimately pretty weak, it’s strength is completely based around the 6 Semigods we have and they are often arguing destroying any semblance of a proper council and seeming more like a gathering of people who want to show off to their peers. The rest are just disciples of a stronger magus who bring them to the council to show them of like some Asian parent would do with his or her kids.
Only one person in this council is particularly dangerous and he was smart enough to not come to this battle. The ones here were like me and forced to come here by that person or had a Chuunibyou delusion that they’ll never lose.
Though I am hailed as the Greatest Necromancer in recent times it was only because the other necromancers died too quickly...
I mean brother seriously you destroyed an entire town and did not expect to spawn a crusade of holy knights to kill you? If the Church did not claim these battles to be ‘Great Achievements’ those necromancers would’ve died with nicknames like “Fried Brain” or “Brain was dunked in water” “Screw Loose” or simply “Idiot”
When I tried to give my heartfelt advice as a former doctor I just get laughed at. After figuring that those necromancers cannot be cured and treatment was impossible, I did the nice thing and relieved them of their worries and possible dangers. Though I ended up with a bunch of nicknames like “Great Scammer” “Necromancer Hunter” and “Mad Scholar”.
Its true that I end up killing most necromancers I meet but they were asking for it since they were calling me things like “Great Scammer” when I was trying to just give them proper advice as a person who doesn’t have an non-functioning brain. What about the title “Mad Scholar”? I was just salvaging the hard-earned research of my seniors and peers who recently died and kindly left me all their resources. Unfortunately most people thought I killed those people after failing to scam them and stole their research. Now I’m pretty much universally avoided by most mage circles and could only join this 2nd rate one.
Though I must say I am definitely completely absolutely innocent. Yup definitely as innocent as the next necromancer who kills and raises the dead for a living.
Oops, I went off topic those ancient maguses are starring at me weirdly.
*cough cough* “Let's get started shall we” (Kal’Zard)
The elders took one last look at me before forming a circle around me, arms raised and began chanting in a strange language.
“Now, it’s show time”
(Back to Shou Nuya’s POV)
I removed the head of another human, he may have had a family or been famous but now he is dead. People are dying everywhere. His death meant little. Far behind the enemy line a group of High Elves where firing Magic’s, in front of me holy knights are wielding their holy magic, blessing allies and smiting enemies. Unseen Elven archers rained arrows on our forces.
On our side a Beastman reached his final moments, his body covered in wounds his shield covered in arrows. Throwing away the cumbersome shield he charged one last time before being locked down by enemies and succumbing to his injuries. Such a scene was happening everywhere on the battlefield.

I wield my great sword, heads roll as fountains of blood erupt around me. Before the blade can complete a full semicircle in front of me, it was stopped.
“Are you the Beastman Sovereign Shou Nuya?” (Unnamed Warrior)
”I am” I replied simply
“Haha prepare to die to me, Rakish the Blessed Champi—“
I removed his head before he could finish. He was monologueing as Kal’Zard would call it and was spouting a lot of nonsense. Though I didn’t have time to worry about him.
A great force hit my abdomen and I was sent several tens of meters back. A giant knight covered entirely in armour, whose height reached 3 meters carried a huge mace and tower shield strode towards me, next to him a female swordsmen with red hair which looked like it is burning, nope they’re actually burning and behind them an ancient looking elf in normal looking cleric robes.
“I’m honored” I sputtered along a mouthful of blood. The enemy commander was actually smart enough to commit 3 Semigods to deal with me alone.
Using my sword as a crutch I try to stand, the swordsmen (swordswoman?) charge forward with a blade engulfed in flame, not giving me the chance to recover.
“SHIT!” I desperately block, surprisingly the blade didn’t have much strength in it and I managed to force her back, however the flames actually singed my fur meaning it broke through the Saint Rank Defense item the 8 Elemental Immunity Band I’m wearing.
I just regained my footing when the giant knight appeared in front of me his mace swinging down jumping to the right I narrowly dodge the hit as the mace created a huge crater. At the edge of my vision I see the ancient elf casting magic, as chains suddenly appeared and chained me to the ground.
The red swordswoman not missing this chance slashed at me again. I blocked again but this time the flames are hot enough that my great sword actually turned a light red color. Pushing her back again I couldn’t recover before the giant was on me again. Swinging his large mace I could only use my sword to block it.
The chains broke as I am once again hurled several tens of meters. I tasted dirt and blood as I quickly stood back up. The red swordswoman, seeing how ineffective her last few attacks were, was getting a blessing from the elf cleric, her flames seem to take on a white color, the giant was slowly lumbering towards me.
I looked around quickly surveying the battlefield. Looking at the state of our army, it’s disheartening and I subconsciously made the calculation which allowed me to become the great general I am. In 15 minutes, our formation will collapse, in 30 I will be killed by the enemy, in an hour the entire army will be either dead or captured. We have no hope.
Then. The mage towers where Kal’Zard went to lit up. A huge spell formation formed around the mage towers, created from uncountable magic runes and geometric shapes. The formation shivered as it began expanding, slowly turning from a circular shaped formation to a spherical spell formation.
A 3D spell formation, just from those words it can be deemed the spell is at least 9th rank, if you factor in its size and complexity then it could be a 10th or Supreme Rank Spell. A Supreme Rank Spell was strong enough to kill True Gods and instantly kill thousands of Semigods, on a battlefield where the total amount of Semigods from both sides could not exceed 10, it’s overkill.
But. More importantly it’s a chance, it’s hope, we could win. For the first time I see the enemy fluster. I breathe deep, my men have yet to see the spell formation since its behind them, I need to tell them, to catch this sliver of hope.
“MEN!” My voice echoes in the battlefield, the throat I used to command countless armies and win countless battles did not fail me.
”OUR MAGES ARE PREPARING A SUPREME RANK SPELL TO TURN THE TIDES!!”
Beastmen turned around seeing the spell formation, a spark was lit in their eyes, reinvigorated they fought as if their tiredness was an illusion, their wounds nonexistent.
”DEFEND THE MAGE TOWERS DO NOT ALLOW THE SPELL TO BE INTERRUPTED ANYONE WHO RUNS SHOULD SHAVE THEIR FUR AND CALL THEMSELVES HUMANS!!”
“General I don’t have fur only feathers!” An eagle kin beastmen retorted in good nature.
Laughter and cheers were heard around the army. They no longer had the eyes of death soldiers fighting an unwinnable battle, they had hope in victory, faith in their commander, and that was enough.
I smile at the trio who were still a bit dumbstruck, the ancient elf recovered first and began chanting, the giant stood between me and him and the red swordswoman moved around the battlefield killing stragglers aiming for the elf.
I could already tell what the elf was chanting, a spell to temporarily summon a true god’s spirit to take over the caster’s body, that old elf must possess enough energy and faith that only his life needs to be sacrificed to cast this spell. The other 2 knowing that the elf is perhaps their only help of stopping that Supreme Spell have promptly decided to protect him instead of restricting me.
Now my best hope of winning is the Supreme Spell, and their best hope is the Old Elf. I didn’t need to be Supreme Commander to know my next step.
I charge forward directly towards the giant my blood boiling as I feel the berserk state my race is famous for. A loud ring echoed the battlefield like a great bell being rung. The giant noticeably winced and was pushed slightly back, laughing I repeatedly landed hits on his tower shield, not giving a chance to retaliate, large dents started appearing in the shield and the giant was getting pushed back. My arms broke from the force of every hit, but I did not care.
The swordswoman appeared by my side and slashed at me, a deep gash appeared on my thigh, though it wasn’t too effective as the wound was cauterized by the flames. Flicking my wrist I sent the swordswoman flying, she crashed into the ground, her body broken.
The giant seeing this seemed outraged, throwing away his shield, a huge mace starts moving towards my head. I stop it with a single hand, the force creates a small crater under me. Now my legs are broken, but I did not care, my berserker blood was fully activated now, I knew I would not survive.
Raising my greatsword I repeatedly begin to hack at his neck. After 15 or so hacks, I only got through half his neck but he’s near death. Instead of fighting the giant pushed himself onto me. I tried to leap out the way. But I wasn’t fast enough, I guess it’s side effect of breaking one’s legs. Instead of a leap it’s closer to falling to the side. The dead giant fell on my legs and completely crushed them into mush. I am likely crippled for life, if I even survived this.
The Supreme Spell is nearing the end of its casting, but so is the Elf’s Spell. The Supreme Spell Formation was filled with so many runes and geometric shapes that it looked like a solid sphere, the apparition of a True God appeared behind the elf. I could not reach him anymore, weakly throwing my sword I missed.
Finally out of my berserk state I notice my side raining arrows on the elf, they bounce of with no effect as the God protects the caster with a magic shield. The beastmen who were held back by the swordswoman began charging to the Elf, seeing me sacrificing so much trying to reach him, they did not need a reason, only that their General trying to reach him is enough of a good reason.
The eagle kin beastmen who retorted me earlier and many other beastmen charged with reckless abandon towards the elf.
But the elf finished casting.
White energy burst out the elf, his eyes were no longer his own, the energy blasted away those aiming him. The eagle kin beastmen charged at him again, the God casually swatted him away, killing him instantly.
Wings of pure light appeared on his back as he flew towards the Supreme Spell Formation. The Supreme Spell finally activated. It’s energy condensed and it ripped a hole in dimensions, rampant energies from other worlds flowed from the hole. Numerous eyes stared from beyond the dimensional gate.
The God frowned, arms of pure light energy appeared as he tried to forcefully close the gate, the already volatile energies of the Spell was condensed and neared the energy of True Chaos. Dark otherworldly energies forced their way through the gaps of the hands of light.
The God formed the light, changing it into a funnel and trying to direct the chaotic energies towards the sky. Rampant dark lightning moved at unseeable speeds across the battlefield, slaughtering thousands. The final blast of energy of the Supreme Spell condensed and the majority of it flew to the sky, the rest decimating the battlefield.
The God who was in the midst of the spell suffered the most damage his avatar getting burned into dust the God Soul suffering immense damage as the God disappeared.
Both sides suffered casualties over 90%, I watch with glee as I see the Holy Knights and Priests who worshiped this God lose their power. That meant the True God was either dead or forced into long hibernation, either way, it meant that the title of Strongest Necromancer was not wasted on Kal’Zard. Not many can claim they’ve seriously wounded a god.
I am still in the same place, next to the giant, my blood flowing out, my death was certain.
”At least.... they lost a bit more than us....”
In war, there are no winners, only people who lost a bit less.

Phantom Storm
"Have you heard, the entire Bonanno crew was brutally murdered!" Exclaimed a youth in his early teens. "What? you're lying, again!" Another similarly aged child responded with crisp denial in his tone. After all, the crew was infamous for their ruthlessness. An eery silence passed between them. Soon enough, the teens' curiosity trumped his ego, and he found himself inquiring in a meek voice. "So...Who did it?" "I heard my father talking about it while he was drunk. Guess what he said?..." The child responded, he was a natural-born storyteller. Listening intently, the other teen urged him on. "It was done by a single person. When the police arrived, the bodies were charred black, likely the work of an electro mage. Most had an arrow or two lodged in their body, and a few were even chopped into neat little slices by a sharp blade." He paused, inhaling sharply. "All the victims had shocked expressions on their faces. As if the enemy was invisible or something. That's why they call that person the Phantom Storm!" concluded the adolescent with an excited glint in his eyes. 2 CHAPTERS PER WEEK (Canada time) [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] -------------------------------------------- Follow Itsuki as he is reincarnated in an unfamiliar world, left to discover where he belongs in such a place.
