Chapter 31 - The Art of creating the Perfect Hole
When I saw how easily my first boss was killed, I decided to rally all my remaining monsters to a single chokepoint. However, when I was still trying to organize my mobs into a single place, millions of ants began flooding in through the caves, swarming into the tunnel right where the adventurers were.
At first, I thought my ant queen had somehow amassed a huge army when I wasn't looking, but then I started itching.
Every time an outside creature enters my dungeon I feel slightly uncomfortable, it's probably better than getting spammed with "Your getting invaded" notifications.
And given the fact that I am currently trying to scratch my whole body at once to no avail, I can safely assume that these ants aren't part of my dungeon.
While I usually wouldn't feel an ant coming in, if you multiply that one ant by a few million then it ends up as me scratching myself in places I didn't even know existed! Currently, I'm trying to use all free limbs to scratch myself, even freeing up one of my legs by hopping. However, I can't do shit about this itching.
"What the?" Just when I was about to reach that normally impossible to reach spot on my back, the feeling disappeared.
Thinking that something must've happened to the ants I turned my view back to my dungeon. Seeing the scene before me I couldn't help but yell.
"What the fuck? Isn't this supposed to be a fantasy!"
(Back to 3rd person)
Jane looked at Clint and then at Gordan. Knowing that their plan was a risky one she asked one final time.
"Ready?"
Clint nodded, his hands clenched around a black powder bomb, Gordan grunted, concentrating on his spell.

Seeing them agree, she took one final look at her team.
"Alright, I'll begin counting,"
"Three"
"Two"
"One"
"NOW!"
Clint threw the bomb, Gordan canceled the barrier and right when the bomb went a certain distance, Gordan hurriedly erected another barrier. A few ants ended up in the barrier, however, they were quickly dealt with, Sophia unleashed a spell, freezing the ants falling on top, they fell like fragile glass, shattering upon contact with the ground, Rayes and Victoria dealt with the rest using a few quick slashes with a dagger.
BOOM!
The bomb exploded. The fact that is was buried under hundreds of ants did not seem to deter it. As the explosion shook the dungeon and literally sent hundreds of ants flying.
Pitter Patter
Like rain, the ants collided with the barrier. But they weren't able to damage it in any way.
Collective sighs of relief could be heard. And Jane's voice could be heard once again.
"Don't relax yet, we didn't get all of them that time but we just need a few more tries,"
She looked at her teammates again, Clint, a bomb already in hand, Gordan chanting up another barrier, Sophia preparing another spell. Satisfied, she declared.
"I'll begin counting again,"
"Three"
"Two"
"One"
"NOW!"
Clint threw another bomb, the barrier disappeared but another soon took its place, like a machine they repeated their previous actions. Like a scene repeating, another few thousand or so ants died. Some from the explosion, some from the shrapnel made by the shattered shells and some from getting crushed by the flying corpses.
"Three"
"Two"
"One"
"NOW!"
BOOM!
The scene repeats again, more ants die.
"Three"
"Two"
"One"
"NOW!"
BOOM!
The explosions cleared away a large portion of the ants, now there were only a few in front of the group.

"Alright, we've cleared most of the ones in front, Clint change sides, let's deal with the ones behind us."
Seeing Clint nod, Jane began the count again.
"Three"
"Two"
"One"
"NOW!"
BOOM!
Unnoticed by the group, a clump of dirt fell from the ceiling.
"Three. Two. One."
"NOW!"
BOOM!
A few more clumps of dirt fell from the ceiling, however, it's existence was hidden by the fantastic explosion.
"Again!"
BOOM!
Seeing her teammates getting used to this maneuver, Jane directly called out without counting.
However just as the explosion sounded, Victoria's ears suddenly perked up.
"What the?"
For a moment Victoria was confused at the sound she was hearing. Since she wasn't an earth dweller like the dwarves, she didn't immediately recognize this sound. However, she quickly realized what the distant rumbling meant.
"GORDAN WE NEED ANOTHER BARRIER!"
Gordan, despite being caught by surprise, immediately began channeling a new barrier, his trust in his friend's judgment unwavering.
The earth began to rumble, lines of dust and earth fell from the ceiling. A boulder fell on the barrier, its weight too heavy to be repelled and simply slid off.
More large clumps of earth fell, cracks began to appear as the barrier was unable to repel them. Just when the barrier had almost completely shattered, a new barrier appeared under it.
Right, when the barrier appeared, it was like a dam had burst and large amounts of earth, soil and rock began falling from the ceiling.

The Stars Have Eyes
The universe was a vast, empty, dark, and uncaring place. Then life happened, and the universe was changed forever. Only a teeny-tiny bit, but definitely different. Then again, the universe changes a teeny-tiny bit every second of every day. For instance, if someone were to get off the couch and randomly drink a glass of milk? Bam! One less glass of milk in the universe. Changed forever. Well, excluding any time-travel shenanigans, but anyone who puts a big old hole in the time-space continuum just to un-drink a glass of milk should really reevaluate their priorities. Unless, of course, they were attempting to prevent some massive catastrophe vis-a-vis said glass of milk. Such a scenario is by no means impossible, as one should never underestimate the importance of calcium. Another important tip for any life forms out there is to keep things in perspective. Some look at the vastness of creation in relation to themselves and go, ‘Man, this sucks!’ These people really need to narrow their focus. Sure, they will never affect anything happening on the other end of the galaxy, but so what? That’s way the heck over there, where it doesn’t matter. Therefore, in order to maintain a healthy mindset, it is important to narrow one’s perspective to the things and people that affect them, and that they can affect in turn. But what happens if one is an unfathomable cosmic being from beyond the veil of reality? What happens when such an existence is capable of influencing entire swathes of the universe just by its presence? A creature such as Magh'rathlak the Observer? That particular entity is only about average as far as reality-warping creatures from the dawn of time go, so its influence over the fabric of reality is rather limited. And it still struggles to keep things in perspective. That, among other things, is why it decided to narrow its worldview a bit by compressing the maddening vastness of its being into a single corporeal form. Magh'rathlak had never tried such a feat, but that wasn't about to stop it. After all, how hard could being human possibly be?

The Sun's Remnant
Two people are transported to a world with magic, but it is no Wonderland. When the god of light died, he decided to take the world with him. At least, that’s what many believe in the Kingdom of Rhine, a once vast kingdom of which only a small corner remains — and even that is threatened. On one side, by the Twisted Forest, a corruption spreading from the deathplace of the gods that has already swallowed up most of Rhine. On the other, by the resurgent Kagrathan Empire, resurrected by the infallible God-Emperor Karlatz. A holy order of knights carry out their mission despite the death of their god. A band of talented misfits prepare for a heist out of their league — by stealing. Mages hunt for secrets even as the world ends. A ruler does what must be done to save the living, no matter the cost. Into this world of magic and murder, two adrift souls are inexplicably dragged: a mother estranged from her young daughter due to her own mistakes, and a young man with a love of fantasy who has gradually drifted away from his friends and family. As they each struggle to find their place in this world, they must also answer the question: do they want one?***Content Warning: I've drafted about 100,000 words (most of the first volume), and there is no sexual content so far, though I may add it in the future. There is occasionally gore and traumatising content as the story demands. I commit to keeping all of the above non-voyeuristic. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
