《Dungeon AI》Chapter 12 - Making a Friend part 1/3

All I could think of, while the drones were still marching up the steps Was "I really wish I had a grenade right now." When the second group reached the top of the stairs, my sword swung in an arc cutting the first two in half. Then shoved the other two back down the steps. When the third group got near the top. They stopped and waited for more drones. "Great, now they're learning." Their shock batons were sticking out between their shields, so I couldn't just run out and tackle them like before. Not if I wanted them to know I couldn't be shocked.
Time was at a standstill while I tried to think over the situation. If I retreat, I'm only delaying the problem if I charge them. They might figure out that I'm immune to the shock batons. Right now my most significant advantage is that there caring around heavy shields that I can cut through with these. They dropped to those and just ran at me with conventional weapons they be able to take me down.
Getting frustrated I said, "Oh great, I suck at strategizing." Running forward I reached down with my shield arm and pulled out my pistol, and the shield was now loosely dangling on my arm by one of its straps. Then I reversed my sword grip and grabbed the shield with my sword hand to hold it in place, using it as a ram. Sprinting, I ran into the Droid Shield wall causing it to buckle. As their Shields parted from the impact, I leaped forward entering the center of their group. One of the drones grabbed my shield, smiling, I said:"you can keep that, I'm done with it now." Letting go of the shield I pulled my gun arm out. I raised the gun while shooting into the unshielded drones. The first one lost its camera, the one next to it ended up with a hole in its battery. Another was trying to put its shield back in place. But I hit it in the shoulder destroying it shield arm.

Several of them drop their shields to tackle me. Time slowed while I looked at them. "That was dumb, Just so dumb. You had a bulletproof shield." Time resumed they were still in midair when I put a round through each one of their chests. One of the bodies flew over my head when I ducked and hit her unit just behind me. The other two fell to the ground, breaking into pieces. Quickly swinging my sword at another one that had been using its shield to protect itself. I was still cutting through it when a second one hit me in my side with the stun baton.
The whole room froze, but this time it wasn't because of my processor speeding up. The last of the units were staring at my side watching the arcs go around the staff. They were still staring at me when I said. "Yeah, maybe it's out of batteries?" They weren't buying it. The rest of them dropped their stun batons and charged at me. I shot another two in their cameras parts scattering is the rest finally reached me. Right before they could grab hold, my sword came up cutting two of them, starting at the hip of the first and ending at the shoulder of the second.
there were only two left now."So do you guys want to talk this out, or just go back to fighting? Because I'm getting tired of this whole run-up and murder people kind of thing." the last two drones looked at each other from behind their shields. Then they looked back and charged. I let out a sigh "I'm never going to have a polite conversation with my kind. Like, Mike, how was your day. Oh, it was great I just spent the whole day obeying are human overlords. Nop, it's just stab stab stab."

My sword went through the last two cutting them neatly in half. After the pieces settled around my feet, I looked around."I think they're going to need way more cleaning drones" I turned and started going down the steps to see where those drones had come from. There is a simple maintenance hatch meant for drone use only. In other words, it usually let out into open space. The door would only open if it scanned a barcode. I had to go back to all the drones and pull off one of the arms. On the outside of the arm was the barcode I needed so I pulled off the piece of armor and took it with me.
When I reach the door, I held the barcode underneath the scanner. I heard a beep tone, and then the door opened up. It led onto a long narrow corridor. I began walking down it noticing there were pipes and conduits all along the side. When I got to the end, I came across a sizeable train station. "This is a train station. It was only supposed to be built after the city was finished. So how did this get inside the ship."
Walking over to the edge of the platform and looking to the right. I quickly pulled my head back as a train passed in front of me, narrowly missing my head. After a few seconds, the train stopped. Most of it was flat platforms with boxes and shipping containers piled on top. One of them was a passenger car. As I watched a woman with three cleaning drones walked out. It looked to be an infiltrator because her fake skin was peeling off of her metal frame. She was wearing a gray uniform meant for the engineers.
Her hands and head were the only things exposed. She was wearing thick leather gloves. Her face had was the only place that had skin left, and it had turned gray from age. Most of the back left portion of her metal skull was still visible. I watched her as she tried to give orders to the drones. "Look. I need you to stop building and lead me to the command deck." She angrily stomped her foot as drones continued on their business without acknowledging her.
The cleaner drones quickly went by me and into the hallway, I had just left. She looked up at me for the first time, flinched and spoke in a nervous voice. "ow shit, hey, I know what you're thinking, I look like some kind of monster, but please don't kill me" smiling I said. "I'm more worried about you attacking me." She now had a shocked expression on her face when she spoke again. "holy shit, YOU SPEAK ENGLISH!"

YAOS 1 - Limitless Adventures - Yet Another OP Story Book 1
December 23rd 2018: Book 1 is now up at Smashwords and at Amazon. December 30th 2018: V1.1.2 of YAOS Book 1 is out, some content additions, fixed typos. Amazon's enhanced typesetting now displays tables properly. YAOS is shown through the eyes of some genius athlete getting OP inside a VR, ah wait, Full Immersion game, ?F.I.O?. Not a Hero, not a Nerd, just a driven individual paying for mistakes made, biding time until he can return to the Real World. He isn't defined like you'd normally do it, you can pick his looks and name all on your own, just like you do in video games. Believe it or not, keeping his looks undefined is harder than you think. His backstory isn't expounded in detail, but it drives his choices. Book 1 isn't about depressing sob stories but about fun and rushing forward, pursuing new horizons. Oh, and you'll end on a cliffhanger! Well, most serials do, so you will probably expect that without being told explicitly. But it isn't that bad, there's a lot of reveals and more to come once this book, that is the first in a planned three-part series, is finally ready for release on amazon et al. The published version will have: 1.) Godawful speaker tags, I hate them, they make you stop thinking and speed up editing so much. In hindsight they should have been in to begin with. But I stand by my goals proclaimed earlier. You guys should think while reading, that is the whole point of the exercise. Apply the knowledge and ideas, improve yourself, get creative! 2.) Pretty colored tables, the damned blue boxes, a lot of work, 69 in one book. Finally fixed amazon's centering issue. Can't say I liked the hours needed to debug that. 3.) The promised Mitara chapters. 4.) A cover! 5.) And lastly, updated polished versions of several chapters. MC shares more of his past, some terrible chapters (esp. 32) finally work. Some new scenes, minor rewrites in parts. Text flow and other issues. The current challenge is to maintain essential ambiguity while satisfying people wanting to know more without thinking three steps ahead. Balancing one with the other is tough. The smut which was in remains, but the story told is not to be superseded by it. A 15+ rating for the first book is also important, not to mention, YAOS wasn't meant to contain any smut to begin with. If the Author can turn to writing full time his output should increase, so please support YAOS #1 once it does finally release. ~Thank You~ No maps so far, that should be in, but is really hard to get done right. Again, tips are appreciated. Update September 2017: Stubbed chapters, sorry guys, currently don't have time to upload them elsewhere, polishing book 1 and 2, writing 3, takes precedence. Book 1 is in heavy editing, too much to keep synced and continuing editing. I'd need a site which offers JS-free rapid managing of chapters and comments. Coding one myself or setting a premade up is out of scope until I'm done with the books. RRL-old offered that, nuff said. This is only here because the author believes in fairies, nobody reads this, most likely. October to December 2017: Life threw some curveballs. February 2018: Book 2 draft 1 completed, at ~150K words. Book 2 is fairly epic in scope, requires 1 rewritten chapter, some editing. Tables and miscellanea are in, but needs at least a grammar pass. March 2018: Book 3 at 28k words, first arc, rest needs serious planning for spin-off and satisfying conclusion. July 2018: Yet another proofing/editing session of books 1-3, 101+ chapters, ~300k words. B3 at 48k, starts out great, but no ETA, no wordcount limit, in flux. But prioritizing my writing cannot be done, I hate the delays as much as you, but you will prefer the whole released in a timely fashion rather than wait. Knowing myself how excruciating waiting can be, at least you'll get significantly polished versions and an ETA on book 2 by release of book 1. December 23rd 2018: Book 1 is now up at Smashwords and in the process at Amazon et. al.. . To all who wait patiently, offered feedback, thanks again!
