《AS LONG AS IT'S INTERESTING, ISN'T IT FINE TO LIVE AS A DUNGEON? (Hiatus)》Chapter 28 : Soul Searching

I was floating on my back in absolute darkness. No light. No wind. No sound apart from my own. Even the water and air were perfectly warm. Their very existence fading from the mind if I didn’t focus on them. The details of the dungeon were much clearer to me here. This isolation chamber isn’t where I do most of the work relating to dungeons, but it is where I can have the greatest sense and control. Normally most things were on a sort of autopilot. Like driving all the way home and being unable to remember any of the scenery. But here in this place that cuts off my human senses, the rest of my world comes into crisp clear focus.
I was not the only one floating in the darkness. No there were several around me. Slight presences that would get scattered by a gentle breeze. So fragile that it took a constant drain of mana to keep them here. Yes, this was the real reason why I was here in the darkness. To be with these partial souls, to use all my focus to bind them to this realm a moment longer, lest they get swept away in the cycle of reincarnation.
[Eita] You souls are some of the first to die in this dungeon. To die defending this dungeon. For that I thank you. And so I shall offer a choice.
A shiver ran through the incorporeal mass that crowded the room. From the lowest plant to the strongest creatures. Those who have passed now gave me their full attention.
Will you free your soul from my dungeon and reenter the cycle of reincarnation proper?
Two or three souls flared up, consuming the chains of mana that held them here until it snapped, and their soul remained no more.

Will you be reborn, once again, as what you were and serve again?
Many more souls flared up. This time, they were absorbed by the chains that bound them to my dungeon and faded, as they once more return to the physical body they were so familiar with. Most of the souls were gone at this point.
Will you seek what others have and claim their bloodline as your own?
A few more souls burned, their chains changing and twisting into new forms. I hope I don’t have to balance the number of each creature too much after this.
And those who are left… Snake. Rabbit. Bird. . . . Cat ? Hm. Well, for the time being, will you choose one of the other rewards? Or Will you assist me in a new test?
And the final four souls burned bright. I reached out and grabbed them and placed them in the experiments I had prepared. If I hadn’t expanded my reaches out into the town, it would have taken all the mana that I could have saved many times over.
[Eita] Now… I wasn’t expecting a cat. What happened exactly?
Interacting with souls was abnormally draining but I was curious. I push my mind against the soul’s. It felt like I was trying to lift weights with just my mind. Eventually however, fragments of it’s memories come to me. And while I wasn’t exactly paying attention to it when it died, I still subconsciously held some information. Combining in my head, a story started to form.

Beyond the Veil
Martin's life would never be the same. He somehow survived a massacre by shady men in black, only to discover they were conspiring with the police. What was he going to do now? But where one life ends, another life begins. One that will learn of magic, and the world beyond the veil. This is a complete rewrite of my first story, The World Beyond the Veil. This is not the same story. Not even a single sentence has been copy-pasted from the original fiction. Readers of the original will recognize a lot of elements, but there are more and more differences as the story progresses. The fiction is planned as a trilogy. The first volume is published. Regarding one of the tags:Sexual Content: There are no explicit sex scenes in the story. On the other hand, it is definitely a story meant for an adult audience, with plenty of references to sex and genitalia. If you're not comfortable with that, maybe steer away from this story. I am very interested in feedback. Let me know if you spot a plot hole or something else that seem off to you.

Heroes Die First
It was after World War Two ended; rumors spread of people wielding amazing powers or mutating into horrifying monsters. Seventy years later, heroes and villains dominate the news and battle in the streets, discrimination drives mutants into the criminal lifestyle, and the governments of the world are struggling to handle the rapidly shifting paradigm. Maxmillian Grants, like any sixteen year old boy, wants to be a hero and he has a secret: he has the power to do it! Except, when he actually looks into the risks and the rewards he discovers that being a hero is not really worth it. Being a villain, on the other hand, certainly pays well. If you don't mind risking being sent to prison and being hunted by heroes and other villains. Max, not being an idiot, does mind both of those things. Instead of being a hero or being a villain, Max decides to take the third option, to be a vigilante! His plan? To hit the criminals in the gut and run off with their money, making the world a bit brighter at the same time by taking down the bad guys. But how long can he actually manage alone? Can he really navigate through the dangerous world of supers and capes without declaring for either heroes or villains? Or will he be sucked into the web of plots and drama that is the life of those with superpowers? (Cover photo by Sebastiaan Stam, downloaded from Unsplash)

Cosmic Plague
In this world, everyone is cursed with a single fate: Become the most powerful. But those who do become powerful, they hate it. Power is misery and death is the solace. လလလ Nazar, a weapon of mass destruction created by the ancient God of Destruction revolted against his creator a long time ago. While he did defeat his creator, the power he was given is still within him. He is cursed with infinite power, standing at the top of the celestial hierarchy. He has more power and wealth than he needs. But even then, he craves one thing; death. He wants to die. Power is misery and death is the solace, but he cannot achieve his only goal. He cannot die. Perhaps that will change when one day, an ancient cosmic Goddess rises from her grave? Perhaps she will finally kill him? Or will she fall short before his awesome yet terrible power? Only time will tell. This is a high cosmic story about the hypocritical life of the protagonist and how it affects everyone (and everything) around him. Naturally, it features very overpowered characters with a lot of high stakes battles roaming across the cosmos. Warning: Swearing, some suggestive sexual gestures/words, gore. Feedback is highly welcomed. (The story was originally named, God's Return, but I wanted to change it.)
