《Aegis》Chapter 58: Two Directions, Neither Good

You hit the deck and add to the suppressive fire the only way you can: activate your microbead. "Tristan to Aegis, lock on to that sniper and hammer him flat."
Simo responds crisply, "locking on target now. Danger Close."
Elena make it to the ruins and snaps out an order, "Adam! Smokescreen!"
Adam doesn't have any smoke grenades, but he does have a flamethrower. He hauls ass over to Yasha, throws a canister on the ground, and sets it aflame. Whatever he lit, it puts up an oily black cloud of smoke.
Yasha twitches, and you can hear her weakly call for a medic.
The sniper puts a line of emerald fire through the smoke. It must be a blind shot, because it misses Adam, but not by much.
Monat has made it to the mouth of the ruins, and continues thumping out more energy rounds. You are fairly sure he isn't hitting anything, but it looks impressive as hell.
You start crawling towards Yasha, and the dubious cover of Adam's improvised smokescreen. "Simo, where's my fire support?"
"Friendly craft in the air. Holding fire until I have a clear shot."
Friendly craft? What in the Warp is going on?
Elena opens fire with her bolt pistols at something deeper in the ruins. "Contact! Cultists!"
Adam drops his flamethrower on the ground and rips open a medical kit. "Sir, get the Swallow cranked up! She needs Medevac NOW!"
Yasha twitches again, moaning in pain.
The sniper is apparently holding his fire, as no more lines of emerald fire appear.
Monat lets out a high, screeching warcray and charges into the ruins. From the panicked cries, the cultists certainly weren't expecting that!
You decide that it is time to make a break for the Swallow, so you get up and run for it.

The Tau dropship re-appears, chasing the purple shack with a howling gale of suppressive fire.
Elena follows Monat into the ruins, covering its back.
Adam works frantically to stabilize Yasha. It is hard to tell how successful he is, but his medical kit is rapidly being emptied of material.
Yasha shudders and goes limp.
The sniper wasn't reloading, it was relocating. A figure in black and green robes steps from the hatch of the Swallow, a long rifle in its’ hands. You have just enough time to feel your eyes go wide as the figure raises the rifle and puts a line of emerald fire through your right knee.
Time slows.
You can feel the flare of pain from your right leg, feel your bones shatter like glass, you muscles torn to shreds.
The figure slings its’ rifle and steps close to you. Metal hands calmly remove your belt and use it to make a tourniquet about your leg, stemming the imminent flow of blood. It looks you in the face, and you begin to flinch at the metal skull grinning back at you.
“Find my sister. Set her free. Or I will continue to make your mortal life hell.”
Kamas the Technomancer places a small metal scarab in your hip pocket.
“When you awaken, so will this. It will give you everything I know of her condition and location.”
Time resumes.
The line of emerald fire fads, its thunderclap echo deafening at this short range. Your right leg gives out, throwing you to the ground. Kamas calmly reaches out, opens a door in the middle of the air, steps through it, and vanishes.
You pass out.

Defy the Legends
"The hand of Fate works in ways inconceivable to those uneducated in her divine method. No trial reaches an end until she sings of it's conclusion... and she's very shy." ~??? Defy The Legends follows a group of forgotten heroes dubbed the "Defiant," each of nine being the reincarnations of legendary warriors embodying the virtues of humanity, who defended the world of Takera from the denizens of the Void thousands of years past. Through cryptic and oftentimes dire means, each coming of these heroes are slowly but surely drawn to each other by an age-old bond, bringing them together when the world is on the brink of annihilation: this cataclysm known as the Great Schism. However, they now remain scattered throughout the world, following a horrific event that ultimately left all but one with a curse to nullify their bond, ensuring that they'd never reunite to prevent the Schism's next arrival. One of those possibly stricken with this curse is named Kyoya Miskrit, the miscreant unknowingly pursuing a path with no way back -- and with a new threat arising from deep within the Demons' Void, he's forced to trust someone believing themselves to be a long-lost ally and assist them in gathering the Defiant once again, in hopes of silencing the whispers of darkness that have begun creeping back from the depths... ...Only this time, for good. _________________________________________________________________________ ***As of Feb. 1st, 2021, the version of this fiction found on Wattpadd is officially synced with the version showcased here. The Time I Became a War Golem
Oh hey! Welcome! It's a pleasure for me that you stumbled here and found this story. What? What exactly is this story? Oh you know, it's like those run-of-the-mill Isekai stories, the main character dies and then gets reborn to another world, fights all kinds of evils and stuff until they finally get a happily ever after. I am the Main Character in this story, your's truly Nigto Zed. In this story, you would follow my life (of course) in the World of Gaia, where I would be involved in fights of both Good and Evil and also the ones inbetweens. You would also read about some of the lives of the people that I meet here from their perspective so it's not all me. Oh well, enough with this. Again, I welcome you to the World of Gaia, wherein, Man and Demi-humans alike experience the two sides of Life, The White and Pure along with the Black and Stained. This is the story of both Suffering and Healing. Of both Successes and Failures. A world where Souls paves the way to Destiny, and where Relationships ensures Victory. UNSPOKEN
Unspoken is a book filled with poems and songs I've made throughout my life. Each chapter will be either a song or poem. They are similar to what many of you have experienced in life... featuring love, heartbreak, loneliness, etc. These are all the emotions I was never able to let out so I chose to write them out on paper.
