《Aegis》Chapter 74: Forgesong

Returning from the bathroom, you decide on the Godsbane Lance Battery. Simo is already a crack shot, so why not give him the longest range weapon you can? This does rule out the Hammer configuration for the broadsides, though you did notice an appendix reference at the end of the summary.
With a shrug, you sit back down and start reading through the summary of the options for the Terra Incarnadine's broadside weapons bays.
Configuration Option 1: Carrier turns the Terra Incarnadine into a supercarrier, pure and simple, mounting six Jovian-pattern launch bays. This would use a reasonable amount of space, and almost no power, but would leave the Terra Incarnadine horribly vulnerable in close combat. She would also be forced to flee combat should her strike craft ever be depleted, as the single Godsbane Turret wouldn't be able to destroy hostile ships quickly enough to prevent them from closing the distance. It does, however, leave an immense amount of space and power for further supplemental components.
Configuration Option 2: Hammer forgoes the landing bays for the heaviest long-range broadsides the Terra Incarnadine can mount. The initial configuration is impossible to power with the Godsbane Battery in the dorsal mount, but the noted appendix covers exactly this situation, at the cost of some firepower. Mounting two more Godsbane and four Sunsear Broadsides, as well as two Auxiliary Plasma Banks to power everything (including the dorsal Godsbane), the Hammer configuration provides an immense amount of direct firepower at immense range, but leaves almost no room or power for other supplemental components.
Configuration Option 3: Dominion strikes a balance between Carrier and Hammer. Mounting two Hecutor Plasma Broadsides, two Sunsear Broadsides, and two Jovian Launch Bays, the Dominion configuration can handle itself in nearly any situation. One notable downside is that the Dominion configuration doesn't leave much power available, but a reasonable volume of space, for supplemental components. An Auxiliary Plasma Bank can help to alleviate this situation however.

You lean back in your chair, now halfway through your fourth cup of tea. All three options have upsides and downsides, but Jace needs a decision made sooner rather than later so that he can finish the fundamental weapons mountings. Mounting the guns themselves will take further efforts, as the Terra Incarnadine is incapable of producing the volume of complex critical components in a reasonable time-frame. Give Jace two or three hundred years to work with, and he can do it. In your lifetime? not so much.
You shake your head, trying to chase the cobwebs away. You need to decide on a configuration so Jace can build the appropriate mounts, then figure out where you can buy or salvage the guns themselves.
