Chapter 13 Evolution
Somewhere far away a thin, frail old man with messy grey and white hair, was walking along a dirt road. His shoes were worn out, his clothes riddled with holes and thin as paper, with only a leather duster to keep him warm. He wore a large backpack trudging along slowly. He was going to the next town to trade the things he found, for food. his heart was weak, and he looked like he was already knocking on deaths door.
Despite the considerable distance, he had covered since “god’s” change, after his car had broken down, he could not find a replacement and was forced to walk. Every car he came across, was missing some part, broken down, had no petrol or the battery was flat. Hence, this old man was forced to walk, day in day out, looking for scraps that people would be willing to trade for. Despite being old and weak, his heart was still good.
Once, outside a town he had meet an old beggar sitting down against a large oak. This old man looked quite a bit like himself. However, this old man was blind, and only had a bamboo stick that he used to find his way around. This old man felt so bad for the blind beggar, he had given him some of the little food he had left, half a loaf of stale bread. The old beggar thanked him mightily and promised to repay the favor one day.
The towns he visited were much worse off than places like bullet town, they had no evolved people and could only try and grow some food. However, the little they had were often stolen by raiders, people would also be kidnapped sold or used as slave labor. So, things like half a loaf of bread was quite valuable.
While walking along this dirt road on his way to the next town, he suddenly spotted a bloated corpse and from this corpse a small sapling was growing. However, what was more stunning than a sapling growing from a few days old corpse, was the color. The two small sapling leaves were golden in color and shone like the brightest stars. This old man was inexplicably drawn towards the small sapling, like the sapling was begging him too come closer. The old man stretched out an arm and with the tip of his finger touched one of the golden leaves.
Suddenly the small sapling turned into a beam of light that shot into his finger. His finger started glowing with a golden light. That golden light quickly made its way up his arm. The old man was scared and didn’t know what to do. However, that golden light didn’t give him any time to react. It shot up his arm and went through his throat into his head. As it reached his head, his eyes started glowing golden and golden light enveloped him.

That golden light quickly turned his hair a bright golden-white color. After the golden light disappeared, the old man was gone. Replaced by a young man, with golden white hair, golden pupils and fair white skin, with no blemishes. He looked incredibly handsome, many girls would fall heels over head in love with him on first sight. The young man formerly an old man, donned a savage grin, before he shot of with an incredible speed. All that was left was a raggedy backpack.
John woke up the morning, in one of the barrack beds at the doctor’s office. After what had happened to Alice, she had fallen asleep with Jonathan in her embrace. Leaving the rest of the people there to stew in their own befuddlement. Nobody know what to make of this, yet they all knew this was the work of god. Some asked themselves why? Why had god done this? No matter how much they though about, no one could make sense of it. John however, didn’t care. He was just happy that his nephew was alive and that Alice was no longer heart broken. Although she had lost her husband, she still had a piece of him in Jonathan. To her, that is what matters now.
John and the rest could only conclude that Alice was some kind of an angel now. Luckily her wings could be retracted so that she could actually sleep in a normal bed. John looked over at Alice, she was still sleeping with Jonathan on her chest, her arms wrapped around him. Next to her lay the girl which had been kidnapped not once but twice, and John had rescued her both time. She was awake, nibbling at a slice of bread with cheese. John was slightly surprised that they had cheese here. She looked at John but quickly looked away shyly when she noticed him looking at her.
“How are you feeling?” John asked quietly to avoid waking Alice. “I am ok” the girl answered meekly. “What is your name?” John continued. “Hanna” She weakly responded. John decided to end the conversation there since he really didn’t know what else to say. John got out of bed and got dressed. He had been in such a rush yesterday. He knew he had made a qualitative leap in strength after eating Molotov’s heart, but he wasn’t sure how big a difference it was. “Luna come with me, I wanna test something out” John told Luna telepathically. Luna, who had been laying on the floor next to John’s bed, quickly got up and followed John out the door. Since Alice was still asleep he felt he didn’t need to be here.

John and Luna arrived outside of bullet town, behind bullet town a short distance away was a forest. This forest was the same forest that John had entered a while ago. John didn’t really want to go there, the oppressive force and danger he felt was not something one easily forgot. However, he could not deny the effect of eating the hearts of those purple creatures. He would eventually have to go there.
John transformed and quickly headed towards the forest, with Luna in tow. John stopped at the edge of the forest. John was only thinking checking if anything was close, however when he activated his heartbeat pulse, his vision became blue. John was very surprised however, he didn’t stop the ability. He wanted to know what this was. Looking around John Could see spots of red, orange and yellow all around him. This was heat vision! John was ecstatic, looking at Luna she lit up like a blazing fire. Heat vision combined heartbeat sensor would mean he could see pretty much all living things around him. Sadly, the heat vision didn’t work through walls and objects like the heartbeat sensor, but he could see people with the heat vision. This was incredibly useful for night time combat.
However, this wasn’t the reason he came out here. Although he had gained another incredible ability that would aid him, he hadn’t known about it but there was something else he had gained that he did know about. John stretched out his arm to the side, and in it a smoky darkness started coalescing. The darkness started stretching until it became a 10-foot-long spear made of smoky darkness. It looked like it was made of pitch black flames that danced around, slightly floating upwards. John felt an incredible power in his hands. John didn’t have to come up with a name for this ability, it already had a name, Dark spear of the god wolf John though. This spear was very powerful and dangerous. John aimed at a tree trunk 30 feet away and threw it with all his might. The spear hit the tree trunk, square in the middle and stopped at the midway point on the spear. Instead of fizzling away or falling out, the spear started melting and spreading around the tree trunk. Eventually the spear was all gone, it was wrapped around the tree trunk. After a few seconds the three feet wide tree fell over.
John went over to investigate. The entire part of the tree trunk that had been enveloped was eaten away by this spear, almost three feet was missing. Some of the darkness still lingered on the tree trunk, silently consuming it. John was befuddled by the power of this spear. However, everything has a drawback. While this spear was incredibly powerful it also consumed a lot of Johns power, he clearly felt a difference in his stamina now compared to before. In fact, he had never been so low on energy before. Every time he fought or ran, he wouldn’t feel any difference in his stamina but now he clearly felt it.
John managed to make two more spears, however the third one was his limit. If he could feel that if he tried to make a fourth one, he would probably collapse from exhaustion. Like before these two spears, if left alone would consume anything they touched, just like darkness.
After transforming John could clearly feel a difference in power, compared to before, he was stronger now, his senses were bumped up another notch. Although how much stronger he couldn’t tell. Right now, he had spent most of his energy creating those three spears, so John and Luna decided to go back. Luna was quite happy that John had gotten a significant increase in power. She felt that before John could certainly beat her, however the difference in strength wouldn’t be too big but now she felt John could wipe the floor with her. Of course, Luna wouldn’t be afraid. She trusted John, he had given her another chance at life after all.
John and Luna went straight back to the doctor’s office, to check on Alice, who at this point had woken up. John was meet with a beaming smile from Alice, who was on cloud nine. John and Alice chatted for a bit, it was quite a while ago the last time they talked. After talking a while, Alice told John that she was capable of healing wounds through her powers. The doctor who had was hanging around, overheard them talking and was ecstatic about the possibilities. Alice decided she would stay here and help out the doctor. Although she was a lawyer, she was a very kind soul that would never harm anyone, for her to stay here and help people would be a perfect fit.
