21 – Rusckan village – Execution by handgun
Knifes flew by, faster than ever, without end. They lodged into the soft flesh inside the mouth of the beast, only to disappear and be thrown again. David grunted with each throw, as he had to keep one hand on the other blade still lodged inside the neck of the beast not to fall down.
He also grunted with each throw because he knew that he could do better. All around, fires were raging and entire building collapsing. Screams of terror reached his ears, voices of older men and women and children all meshed together in a symphony of death and sorrow.
“Fly, fly!” He yelled again and again, remembering when he managed to make knives appear already flying towards the target earlier. He seemed unable to replicate those conditions now.
More and more holes appeared, but they were not enough still. The beast was still alive. It was too big, too resistant.
An idea. He outstretched an empty hand. The knives were not enough, and so he’d try something else. Above his open palm, a block of basalt appeared out of the inventory. Immediately, he felt the weight of it, not in his arm but in his very being. He was giving it all to keep it there with both his earth magic and his telekinesis.
He felt his tendons snap and his muscles tear, his body trying to take the weight off his soul. He was not done. He gritted his teeth, and redoubled his efforts. The sounds seemed to disappear from all around, leaving only his breath and his raging emotions, his heart and his blood, his magic and his soul. The world became dark, effort taking away vision and everything, but still as dark as it was it had color. David smiled. It was all worth it.

Water appeared, and crept inside the rock as he shaped it as much as he could with his magic. The tiny cracks were enough for him, because the water droplets under his control entered and then expanded when the fires he summoned made them boil. The rock cracked, and split into pieces, revealing one long spear carved out of the core of the block of rock.
He let the rest of the material fall down, and felt the weight on his soul decrease. Sweat was wetting his hair and brows, and the sudden jerks and movements of the beast, which seemed somewhat aware of what David was planning, threatened to make him fall down. Vision returned.
The spear oriented itself towards the holes in the mouth, left behind by the countless thrown knives. It accelerated, and David lost the grip on his knife but still maintained the control of the spear. As he fell, he watched the shrinking head of the beast grow far from him. He yelled to maintain his focus, and the spear sped up even more until it hit.
The beast growled and hissed, and then began to crumple on itself and fall down, toppling over in a last spasm. It landed right on top of David, who was now unconscious after hitting his head against the ground. It killed him instantly.
29° Reincarnation.
>Rebirth bonus: Mauser c96; 10 magazines.
>Choose target location. Current mission; Silverscale forest.
He looked at his inventory and saw the little, compared to the ten-meter-tall stack of basalt blocks, gun. He smirked.
“One hundred bullets total, let’s make them count. Time to hunt. Current mission, please.”
>Confirmed.
>Mission is respawn type. Complete objective to unlock new area.
Process complete. Namaste, and good luck!
Immediate, sharp, infinite pain. Then, he saw liquid and entrails splash down from above, and he tried to swim but the liquid was like molasses.

He gasped but only more fluid came, and entered his lungs. He was under the beast, he understood. This would take a few respawns.

35° Reincarnation.
6 respawns with no bonuses, and each and every time there was pain waiting for him after the white room. But he bore the weight as best he could, because he still had a job to do. He still had a person to hunt.
“Aaaaargh!” He yelled, when he saw light again after what felt like forever. “Where the fuck are you, little bastard! I’m coming.”
His eyes were wide, his words filled with madness and rage. The red of his sclera was so dark and deep it seemed to have a life of its own. His pupils dilated. His heart racing. Nobody saw him, because if they did, he was sure they would think him a demon.
He ran, towards the guild. Where he knew he would find the dwarf. And there he was, Griglir, sipping on a beer that was the tenth or more, judging by the empty mugs. Sad, hollow, bitter.
As soon as he turned around, the long-braided beard following like water behind, his eyes widened. His face was one of utter shock and terror.
Then a frown.
“Why do you keep coming after me, what do you care about those people? Why do you choose to suffer each time you come back, when you could just sit back and live your life as an immortal king, or a god? Above everyone else.” He said, but his voice was shaking.
“Because this is my mission. My reason to live, to complete the missions. They are what saved me, and they are my only guide through a life that, for once, has color.”
The dwarf held his breath. His heart was thumping, his breaths came in shallows. His eyes darted around the room in search for escape from a man that seemed to occupy the whole room like a looming shadow.
“What are you talking about?” He spat, tone and composure betraying his inner turmoil. “What missions, what color?” He was trembling.
“You won't understand. But it's fine.” David said, finality in his voice. He pulled out the Mauser.
“That's it? Just because someone tells you what to do? You just do it without question?” The dwarf was speaking fast, fearful that he could not make it in time to say what he wanted to say.
“Of course not. But, as long as what is being asked of me is to just do what's right, I will do it.” David said, then pulled the trigger.
He kept pulling and pulling the trigger, even after the gun fell silent and his ears were ringing. The muffled clicks reverberated through the empty air, and the little bearded figure just lingered on the floor, ten holes in its body.

Awakening the Stars
In a world of mystical Gifts, the nation of Ophelia was once a harmonious land, governed by the four Courts and favored by the stars. Since its beginnings, the Ash, Terris, Zephyr, and Aquae Courts have allied firmly to serve their people, each bestowed with a power at birth by their ruling entity. Despite their differences, however, the unity of the people remained taut for many centuries. But alas, the balance was fated to tip. Those in authority have begun to fall to corruption and dominion. A deadly attack on innocent villagers finally exposes their true nature, setting the stage for a kingdom poised to crumble. At the center of it all lies an unlikely cast: a young Runner training for life as a guard in the Terris mountains to fulfill the visions of his esteemed father. A Persuader heir to a family of wealthy politicians, stuck between her parents’ expectations and her rebellious nature. A Levitator apprentice learning the ways of an apothecary before his peaceful life is uprooted by an unsettling tragedy. And a Breather girl whose entire world yielded to an unusual occurrence within herself, with no one to turn to for her peculiar ailment. When it seems their kingdom is on the brink of war, a mysterious woman offers them a solution, and the four Ophelians are drawn to her noble path. An unlikely alliance. Underlying motives. A dangerous weapon. Yet one thing is clear: if they do not rise up to meet this looming threat, then the fate of their people and the lives they yearn for will be in jeopardy. ---------- The first novel in a working series. Welcome to the Upward Bound System, V.3
They say third times the charm. With every iteration we improve. When the System came to Earth, it changed everything. It is a grand thing used by gods and men alike. What had once been fantasy was now a reality. People believed and so that belief gave ideas the strength to manifest. "Welcome Founder of the SCP Foundation" It stirred the gods from their deathly slumbers. Stirred by an almost mechanical voice promising them new life, and followers as countless as the stars. All it asked of them was for their help. Help with what though? The old gods, the forgotten gods, and the new gods drew breath, and then made their voices heard. On a day like any other Dante was home from college watching the Presidential inauguration with his parents. Little did they know that this day would turn out to be anything but ordinary. That this was the day everything changed. Dante is not your typical MC. While he has a troubled past, he looks forward to the future. Follow Dante, his parents, and the new friends he meets along the way as they traverse this new system world. However, before they can explore this new world they must complete, the Tutorial. (Please note: This tutorial will be part of the story. Rather than a skim of the information, you will get to experience it in depth. So the tutorial will last a good while.) A much slower style of LitRpg than what you would normally find. Follow Dante and his party as they find their world taken over by the system. Welcome people of Earth to the Upward Bound System!... With the system's arrival so too does great danger come... The tools of your survival shall be granted upon you by the system... Please note, I don't own the art. Please enjoy the story, and if you don't please leave a comment and I will try to improve the story for you. This is the second version of this story, so feel free to check out the original and compare the two.

Dreamland
Dolores is a lucky girl with a high-level avatar in a very popular game. She did not level it up; she got it through some fortunate circumstances. She is not interested in fighting and levelling; all she wants is to have some fun and follow her own fantasies. If only there would not be all those idiots who intend to kill her, capture her, or simply use her. And those flaws in the game! Wait, what? Those pesky game characters now appear in the real world? And they can do magic? How did this happen? Adding to her troubles, her crush does not even look at her. As Dolores tries only to survive and hide between 'normal' people, she encounters stranger and stranger things that force her hand and, in the end, she has the answers to a lot of questions. It is a slow-developing story. I had a lot of fun writing it and hope to share it with you, dear reader if you also enjoy it. On the other hand, putting it in an acceptable form requires much work and energy. I intend to bring it to its end and not let it unfinished. I hate it when I encounter unfinished stories, so I understand the feeling. This is not a classical isekai story. There is travel between the two worlds, and the game world seems to be so very real... well, this is one plot of the story. This is not an MMORP game story. Part of the action happens inside a game world, but it is treated as a real world. Updates on a weekly basis, at least Monday and Friday, with additional bonus chapters as time and energy allow. Cover art: White Flower as A Dark Fairy by Darkrealmsmaiden Yolanda gracefully allowed me to use her dark fairy as cover. There are many more beautiful works of art to be discovered at her site: https://www.deviantart.com/darkrealmsmaiden Additional Grammar Trigger Warning: As a non-native speaker, I do my best. Unfortunately, this is not enough for people with a low tolerance for warped sentences and... they may want to skip the story :( Well, you have been warned :) I appreciate it when a reader points out a sentence that needs rework. That may spare a follow-up reader some pain and helps me understand where my English grammar problems are. * We thought we made the best game in Earth's history We thought we made the best interfaces ever seen We thought we made it - lifelike But it far exceeded our expectations. Dolores, I hope you're happy now. I hope you're alive now...

The Meaning of Life
It all started with that voice. One day, a slightly psychopathic teenager named Krey heard a voice in his dream. A goddess's request, a new world, the legacies of the Divine realms, the never-ending storms in the world of Salratia. With the carefree thought of "I shall live as I please~!", Krey sets out to begin his 'otaku' dream. But it is not smooth sailing. Troublesome divine entities, mortal politics and the relationship with his new companions. How could he, a former assassin and former odd-jobs part-time high school student worker (not to mention an otaku), a perfect example of a loner (though he himself doesn't seem to realize it) be able to handle this problem? "Ei! Whatever, there's still a few more centuries! I'll go travel the world in peace!" [Author here. This is my first time writing a story in RRL. Criticism is very welcome as long as it is educational and has some tips and bits of advice for me. I am still learning]
