Chapter 12:
Aftermath
--- --- ---
According to the Magic Spells and Martial Art Techniques Rankings, each tier of skills gets stronger as it increases. Although the same tier skills are often similar to each other, they are, unfortunately, not all made to be equal.
Depending on one’s Soul Power rank, a person with a higher ranked SP would overpower the other person if his/her SP rank is lower, regardless if they’re both using the same tier skill.
Then why, as Ms. Aiko wondered, could the boy break through her defensive spell that was considered one of the top High-tier magic?
As she helped the other teachers with repair of the colosseum, she could only shake her head in incredulity. But when she looked at the enormous hole in the ground before, she could slump her shoulders as she realized it was not just her imagination. The boy Vinci had actually broke her high defensive spell and caused this giant crater in this ground simply from a single attack.
Ms. Aiko had heard about the boy from the other teachers when she was in office getting ready for class. She was the teacher for Class 7. Apparently, the student was said to be labeled as a No Rank, but despite that he was still admitted due to his incredible SAT. But because of the digits that were uttered after that, she instantly became doubtful whether he was actually granted entrance for his intelligence. He was probably admitted because of his powerful connections, was what Ms. Aiko thought at the time.
But, as she was patrolling the school ground while her students were off training, she noticed a few teachers heading toward a group of students that were neglecting their practice routine. When she got closer she became shock at the scene she saw before her.

The said boy, Vinci, was stepping down on a larger boy as he held an intense lightning rod in his left hand. It was unmistakably a High-tier magic spell. And no less, the No Rank student was using it.
But shock as one may be, Ms. Aiko was a still a teacher. Even with the changing technology each day, the duty of a teacher never changes. And that is to protect the students and allow them to grow into meaningful adults.
Yet, even as she deployed a high defensive spell to protect the boy under Vinci’s feet and shouted for him to halt, she realized that he would not stop.
After muttering something, his left hand came down with the lightning spear and the whole colosseum was engulfed in a blinding life. A loud sound permeated throughout the field
*Kkkkkraccck!!*
And that was when Ms. Aiko realized that her defensive spell was broken. After that, a deafening noise followed
*BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!*
Once the light faded and the dust settled, everyone slowly opened their eyes.
In front of them, was large crater with Batomi laying in the middle. All the parts below his left shoulder all the way down to the left leg was torn off.
Ms. Aiko could only stare in disbelief as Vinci slowly emerged from the gray clouds, gently patting the dusts off his clothes.
After that, two of the teachers had to send detain Vinci and they marched him off to the Headmaster’s office. The heavily injured boy, Batomi, was immediately bombarded with high level healing magics as they tried to reduce the bleeding. The rest of the students were dismissed for the day.
And, that was how it arrive to now, with the teachers having to clean up the student’s own mess.
“Haaa….I don’t get paid enough for this, do I?...”

grumbled Ms. Aiko as she once again focused on trying to restore the broken ground using her restorative spell «Recuperative Soul», which allowed her to restore anything that was non-living.
But even so, her eyes slowly drifted towards the direction of the school. As she stared at the boy being led by two teachers, she could only silently wonder to herself
“Hm...is that boy...really a No Rank..?”
As the sun began to set, Ms. Aiko could feel a new wind silently blowing through the Colosseum…

Recruit - An Infinite Labyrinth prequel
A prequel to The Infinite Labyrinth. The year is 1816. The British Empire is in full swing, under the auspices of King George III. The Infinite Labyrinth has been pouring out its product from beyond our reality and fostered a new industrial revolution. Times are changing, and the people of London are feeling the winds of the revolution while British Professionals push into the Labyrinth. The newly formed Artefact Hunting Company is looking for recruits, and they have new technology to help them. From the slums of London, they aim to recruit a new wave of Professionals. And make Zacharias and the Earl of Carnavon lots of money. So, for Rowan Rivers and a handful of lucky ones, it's time to head into the Labyrinth, and discover what makes it different from England. And what makes THEM different? Recruit is a bunch of chapters I wrote to create to the setting, mood, and game systems of the Infinite Labyrinth. It is NOT a complete story in the classic sense. It's more of a slice of life view of early days of a normal Professional from the Infinite Labyrinth, and it's heavy on info-dump. It's 90% canon - there's probably a bit of a difference between how some characters and common behaviour are portrayed here and how they'll come out in the main story. Set two years before the events that kick-start the main series, it features some of the secondary/peripheral characters of the Infinite Labyrinth and will tell you all about the basic mechanics of the Labyrinth's RPG system. It can be considered a spoiler, as the characters in the Infinite Labyrinth are going to need to figure out all that, on their own. But if you like a much deeper exposition in the mechanics, here it is. The entire prequel is about 80 pages long.
