《Re: Rabbit Eyes [Draft]》[Arc 1] Chapter 16 - Origin ; Soma [Part 2]

A few years passed like this.
It turned out that I had reincarnated into another world, along with my sister Rien.
In a turn of events, it seems like we've been given a second chance at life. As sisters at that!
It was only when I was 3 when I began to be able to speak that I realized my sister was Rien. Although our names carried on to this world by our parents Martha and Len who coincidentally named us that way, I had always thought it was a sweet coincidence. We also bore the same surname now, albeit different from the ones we had on Earth.
Our parents were Len de Eschtalier, a retired captain of an esteemed Knight Order; The Silver Pegasus and
Martha Seluvia, the head maid of the King's Palace.
They had met coincidentally in the castle after Len had returned from a dangerous scouting mission to the West against the Betruvian Empire.
We had adopted the knight family name of 'de Eschtalier' from our father's side, bestowed by the good grace of the Imperial Emperor of the Luna Empire, Edwin Luna de Y'liaster. Having served the king under a powerful knight's order for many years, he was awarded the title of a Marquis but he chose to marry into our mother's countryside and lead a simple farmer's life.
We currently reside in the Village of Bulwark, belonging to a part of the northernmost state of the Luna Empire.
He still occasionally trains us during his free time and never skips on his own training, and returns to the Empire periodically to fulfil his duties. He says that one day, he wishes for one of us sisters to succeed the title of knighthood.
Within a few conversations, we could make out our current situation.
But it wasn't a bad one either, I honestly had no attachments to my previous life. Neither did Rien, she said.

My appearance had also changed. I had become a more beautiful woman like Rien. I had also inherited red hair from our father Len. My eyes weren't as droopy as before, and I became more outgoing; Talking normally and having friends normally in this village I call home.
But Rien remained the same as usual, there was nothing different from her appearance, except from her change of hair color since her reincarnation. Her red hair has become a little darker, closer to a dark brown.
Everything feels warm here, that the horrible memories were starting to fade away...
And replaced with family warmth.
...
"Soma? What are you thinking so hard about again?"
"Sister Rien? Haha, just something."
"From our previous life?"
"Mm."
"That's right, things have... changed huh..."
"That's right, we're still alive. Living the life with a warm family I never had. It's quite overwhelming to be honest." I chuckled.
"You've changed too, Soma." Rien smiled and sat beside me.
The wind breeze on this plains felt nice.
"How so?"
"You've become more confident Soma, you've grown to become a friend I'm able to be very proud of. Oops, that's right... you're my little sister now heh~"
Rien hugged me from the back and squeezed my breasts. I moaned softly and squinted my eyes in displeasure. She was still fondling them ecstatically.
Geez, she keeps doing that when I keep telling her not to. Skinship, she says... why do I feel like it's something totally different from the look in her eyes. I don't want to think that Rien is that kind of girl...
"D-don't tease me like that!"
"Hahaha!" Rien left my chest and got up, before running energetically towards our little cottage located at the edge of the woods.

Although it might sound dangerous, it actually isn't.
Although monsters exist besides animals in this world, as long as Repulsion Stones are placed around our village as a boundary to keep the lower tier monsters like Grey Fang Wolves and Lesser Jaw Rabbits away, we are generally safe. I was initially afraid of such a flimsy protection film like that, but I've grown used to it over the years. It has never broken yet, at least, for now. Villagers are also required to learn the basic skill: Repulse Beast LV 1 as well, which has the same effect as repulsion stones, so we can still cope without the barrier when in dire straits.
I've never bothered to venture deep into the woods either, why would I?
"You should head back soon too, it's already getting late!" Rien stopped midway and turned back to call out to me.
"Mm... I'll stay like this for awhile. I'll see you at dinnertime later then?"
"Alright! Be careful!"
She left. Ah... This is comfortable. There was a feeling of Déjà vu there... it feels like a distant memory that I shared with Rien once as non blood-related friends.
...
A few more years passed, and it was time for the Rite of Occupation. It was a tradition among the country to perform the rite to differentiate people's talents. It was named thus for a very obvious reason. From there, people would branch out to become different people.
It was truly something from a light novel which I had read in my past life.
Our small Bulwark Village was no exception. On the year where both Rien and I was 16, we went to the village chief's cottage. In there, they had already prepared the Vision Orb, which was the apparatus used to filter the nature of our specifications.
There was a line into the village chief's home; looks like there was quite a few teenagers already in this village who are going to be appraised.
I wish I can be something useful for mom and dad, and Rien as well. Maybe something like Cooking Mastery? Haha, that'd be nice to have. Rien's always burning everything up after all~
"Next."
Ah, it's my turn.
Rien was patting my back and wishing me luck from the back.
I'll do my best!
"Put your hand on the orb, Soma de Eschtalier."
I placed my hand on the orb without hesitation, and with some anticipation.
The orb suddenly shone very brightly.
The village chief who was acting as the inspector exclaimed suddenly.
"T-This is-!"
My expectations were shattered, and my life took a drastic turn on that day.
"A Sword Saint... A Sword Saint has descended upon our humble village!!! We have someone who will finally become a Knight in the mainland!!!"
The village chief proclaimed.
Eh?
Sword Saint? Like... a Knight?

Queen of the Hill
Howdy there, partner. I'm so glad you've stumbled upon this story of mine. It's a bit of an experiment I've always wanted to try: writing a female protagonist people would enjoy reading. Of course, my amazing writing skills and epic prose won't be enough to convince you, so I've composed a list that'll prove just how much you'll love Daphne: 1. She has that good ol' Southern hospitality 2. She knows a lot of Southern Slang 3. SHE'S A MOTHER TRUCKIN' DRAGON I dunno about you, but I'd like to read a story where a young, Southern woman gets reincarnated as a hill dragon and has to fight vicious fairies, handsome dwarves, and plants that make you sneeze assisted by only her wits and a very passive-aggressive system that sends her weird emoticons. But hey. That's just me. Give it a chance! Tarnation Station is coming and there's absolutely nothing you can do to stop it! So why don't you hop on and enjoy the ride?

Through Mist, Veil, and Summer
Anna Lawrence is a quiet girl who'd rather sit and write poetry than bustle about with her peers. After an incident resulting in a panic attack and a trip to the hospital, Anna's foster mother sends her to stay with her aunt and uncle for the summer. Upon arriving in the small mountain town of Glenwood, Anna finds herself caught in the machinations of another world on the other side of the fog: warring witches, animal-headed skypirates, and the boldest, bravest, most interesting girl Anna has ever met. THROUGH MIST, VEIL, AND SUMMER is my homage to Studio Ghibli films. It's a fantasy romance with a dash of adventure and a sprinkling of self-contemplation. It's a story that moves a little slower, a little quieter. It is my fourth novel, written between October 1, 2017 and January 6, 2019.
