Chapter 12: Land Defiler
We are deep in the Deadlands now.
The most dangerous monsters are present here.
Good thing most of them are undead. Most of them. For those who aren't undead, we sneak past them.
Even though these mighty creatures are undead, I can't control them because a weak undead cannot dominate a strong undead.
While contemplating this, something much more terrible appeared.
Huge…
It was a lump of meat covered with huge bones.
Walking around slowly and exuding vast amounts of negative energy. If I look closely, it is somewhat like a whale. It was swimming on land.
I remember this guy from the monster registry. Land Defiler. Gigantic monstrosities that were cursed to walk these lands for eternity.
They were giants that were corrupted by the Skeleton King.
They turned into a slow, environment killing machine. The Land Defilers just walked and swam around, leaving massive amounts of negative energy on their trail, killing all living things. Even the land itself.
The first Land Defiler was created when an undead patrol caught a huge refugee caravan. They numbered around 2000: men, Women, Old and young.
The Skeleton put them all inside a small pit and blasted them with a massive negative energy blast. Even though unexpected, the results were terrific.
It could decimate a small army on its own.
The Skeleton King repeated this practice until they pushed the humans back to the north region.
Now, how to talk to this guy. I used telepathy to start a conversation. “Greetings. I am Idmon.”
It made some groan and a weird gesture.
Somehow, I think there is something to this guy. Can you not speak in your mind so that I could understand you?
I tried to do some hand signals, but I can’t understand his responses. Hmm.

Anyway, we need to go on. As we were going pass by the Land Defiler, I heard a huge roar.
What!? Perhaps we angered it?
I motioned to my men to get ready, but it was not like that.
A rock golem was about to hit us, but we did not spot him because of the mist. The Land Defiler blocked the hit for us. Or maybe he was just in the way.
It must be a rogue summon from a wizard long ago. If it lasted this long, it must be some powerful wizard.
We got away as soon as we can. We can’t have ourselves crushed by these giants. They exchange punches.
Their huge swings produced shockwaves, so we had a hard time holding on the ground. Some of my men flew, and their equipment was scattered.
Good thing the battle was settled when the rock golem planted his fist into the stomach of the Land Defiler. It was sucked in, and the Land Defiler swallowed it whole when they got in close range.
WHAT!? It swallowed the rock golem. I let our guard down back there.
There are still non-living things aside from undead, so it was not impossible to encounter this kind of enemy.
I thank the Land Defiler through telepathy one last time before leaving.
It seems to be care-free around here. Just look at the sight of the Land Defiler rolling around the ground and lying lazily. It’s quite funny for a lump of meat to do that.
The groans might be the cries of the thousand souls trapped inside the monster. These souls do not have anything to do with me, so I didn't care.
I hope there no more huge rock golems for us to fight.
