Chapter 77: The Ancient Golems
Hos: "Here, take these weapons."
We cannot take weapons from my skill, so we had to get weapons elsewhere.
Hos: "These weapons will not break from usage; however, they are not strong enough to break the Golem's armor. You have to find out for yourselves how to win with them."
Hos summoned a cabinet filled with various types of weapons. I picked my usual spear.
Bon picked up a quarterstaff.
Granpa had his axe, so there were no problems for him.
However, Lina did not pick anything.
Idmon: "(t) What's the problem, Lina?"
Lina: "Even if I tried to wield a weapon, my physical strength is not great enough to be a help."
I see. Being an Ice Witch means that she would rely only on her spells.
Hos: "Does this mean you would like to resign from this challenge?"
Lina: "No! I can still produce some magic power even with your gem hindering us. I will fight and help with what little spell power I have."
Hos: "Oh, I see."
Hos looked at Lina with curious eyes. I guess he couldn't believe that she still had magic power even after Hos revealed the anti-magic gem.
Hos: "Is everyone, ready?"
Everyone: "Yes."
Hos: "Then, I will leave you alone here. I will not show up again until you have finished the challenge."
Hos teleported out.
Hos: "Or until every one of you has died."
It was not long before an Ancient Golem approached us. I tried my skills to test how tough these Golems are.
!
My spear hit the Golem in the body, and it deflected the with ease.
Idmon: "(t) It's tough."
It was 8 ft. tall, so maybe an attack to its legs would do something?
Granpa was next. He swung his huge two-handed battleaxe to hit the golems in the legs, but it deflected it the same way it did to my spear.
Granpa: "Damn it."
These golems are built with impenetrable defence in mind. Their limbs are as thick as their body so trying to immobilize them with attacks to the legs is impossible.
Bon: "It's attacking!"
The Golem swung his right hand. It was so fast that I almost didn't have time to dodge.
Granpa was the one who wasn't able to dodge, and he tried to block it.
Granpa: "Ooohhgg!"
He flew away with incredible force.
Idmon: "(t) Granpa!"
He was not moving, but I can sense he still has some negative energy left. Might be too damaged to stand.

We cannot block the attacks of the Golems, but it is still possible to dodge them.
Lina: "Take this!"
Lina flew towards the Golem's leg and froze it with her powers.
It was impossible to freeze the Golem entirely; however, freezing a single leg was still amazing.
Idmon: "(t)Nice job, Lina! Let's do this, Bon!"
We took the advantage that the Golem was immobilized and attacked it.
I aimed for the head to see if it will do more damage while Bon sought to break the frozen leg.
!
One of my original skills. I am combining the dash from and to maximize power.
Tink!
The attack's force was so strong that when the Golem's defence deflected it, the spear flew off my hand.
Crack.
Even though my attack failed, there was a crack on the surface. That's progress at least.
Bon: "I can't damage it!"
Unfortunately, Bon didn't have any progress on his end. Lina's ice was too tough for him to break along with the legs.
Granpa: "Stand aside!"
Granpa came running out of nowhere and hit the frozen leg.
Boom!
Lina froze it through and through, so when the ice broke, it also broke the leg.
The Golem fell to the ground. The ground shook from the weight of it.
Granpa: "Yeah! Hu-"
Idmon: "(t) Watch out!"
Even though the Golem cannot stand, it was still able to swing its colossal arm.
Lina: "!"
Lina froze her body with her ice and blocked the strike.
Lina: "Gurgh!"
Even though the attack did not damage her armor, the blunt force of the attack hurt her.
At least she can break her fall by flying in a different direction.
Idmon: "(t) Stand back, Granpa. You're almost out of negative energy."
The attack from before really did a number on him. His skull has cracks, and other parts of his body have fractures.
Granpa: "Got it. I'll be more careful."
Bon: "Lord Idmon! I found something on its chest!"
There was a small hole in the center of the Golem's torso. Bon was pointing at something shiny inside of it.
Idmon: "(t) A core? Let's take it out!"
I jumped on the chest of the Golem and used towards the hole.
Bon: "He's moving his arm again!"
Just before I was able to stab its core, it made a desperate attack.
Lina: "I won't let you!"
Lina was already near the Golem and froze its arm, so it stopped before hitting me.
Idmon: "(t)Please, stay down for me!"
Even though I knew it would respond, I still said that while I plunge my spear into its core.

Golem: "Guhhh..."
With a groan, the Golem became a lifeless statue and did not move anymore.
The point of the spear is just right for the hole, so it went through the core.
Idmon: "(t) We did it! We-"
More earthquakes. The ground rumbles from the footsteps of incoming golems.
Bon: "There's two of them now!"
Idmon: "(t) Wha-?"
The two Golems attacked at the same time, aiming to sandwich the group.
.
.
.
(Hos POV)
Hos: "They did an excellent job in beating the first Golem. However, there's plenty more of Golems ready to strike."
Hos watched the challenge from a small room with magic crystals that display what is happening to the group.
Hos: "Unless they discover their innate talent and learn not to rely on spells and skills, they will not be able to pass this test."
The Creator's arm hovers over the buttons that would release the Golems. There was a lot of them, and it varies on how many golems are released.
Hos: "That Ice Witch, is interesting. Her powers are immense, and she feels like the direct descendant of the Ice Queen."
Hos pressed a button on the table in front of him.
Hos: "If she learns how to bring her power out, even the anti-magic gem is powerless to stop it.
.
.
.
(Idmon POV)
Idmon: "(t) Everyone, dodge!"
There was still a small window of opportunity for us to dodge the attack.
Luckily, we evaded the pincer attack, and the Golems hit each other with their punches.
This lucky event gave us some time to take down one of them.
Idmon: "(t)Lina, Bon, keep the other Golem busy. I'll finish the other one!"
I ran as fast as I can to use towards the Golem core.
Their attacks on each other were powerful enough to knock down both of them.
Idmon: "(t)Got you now!"
Golem: "Guh..."
I hit the core dead center, and it became a lifeless husk.
Idmon: "(t) I'll back you up no-"
Earthquake! Another Golem is coming!
While I thought about this, a Golem fist is already coming my way, and no one is in range to help me.
Not today!
To dodge the attack, my skill was pushed to the very limits.
Dodging with no room for an error made my non-existent heart beat so fast I thought I might've become human again.
Idmon: "(t) Hold on, guys! I'll finish this one quickly!"
Lina and Bon were having a hard time fighting the other Golem. Bon doesn't have the physical power to break the limbs frozen by Lina.
So the Golems just break out of the frozen state after a while.
Granpa: "I'm going in!"
Bon: "No! Stand back! We can't heal you if you get hit again! No, negative energy means no way to restore destroyed vessels!"
Bon said that while trying his best to dodge an incoming attack from the Golem.
Meanwhile, my divided attention made me lose my footing while stepping away from the Golem, and a kick hit me.
Argh!
I rolled from the force of the kick, but it wasn't as strong as a Golem punch.
It's approaching me intending to finish me.
Something caught my attention while it was winding up its attack.
Idmon: "(t) Listen! The Golems are most vulnerable when they are attacking! The hole in its chest gets bigger, making it possible to land a ranged attack."
I told my allies this, and they acted on it as soon as they heard.
Granpa: "Here goes!"
Granpa threw his battleaxe from afar while the Golem was attacking and it hit the core.
Golem: "Guh..."
Golem's attack stopped, and it fell.
Granpa & Bon: "Yeah!"
With the other Golem down, I was able to focus on the enemy in front of me.
Idmon: "(t) Now, it's your turn!"
I pressed forward instead of dodging the incoming fist of the Golem.
Idmon: "(t) It's risky, but it will give me a chance to take you down in one hit."
Before the fist hits me, I used to dodge it very narrowly and use towards the exposed core.
Golem: "Guh..."
Idmon: "Yeah! That's right! Four down!"
Lina: "Great job, Lord Idmon!"
Bon: "Yes, I'm sorry I wasn't able to notice that earlier."
Now that we know the weakness of the Golems, we can finish this challenge with ease.
Hos: "We're just getting started."
Suddenly we heard Hos voice, and after that, the ground shook more violently than before.
Two Golems appeared.
Granpa: "It's just two of them! We can take them down!"
Idmon: "(t)No, there's something different."
Bon: "I can sense magic power coming from the Golems! They're launching a magic attack! Run!"
We did our best to run behind the defeated Golems to take cover.
Zoooooooom!
A bright light came out from the hands of these new Golems and hit our cover.
An explosion occurred that destroyed half of the defeated Golem's body.
Oh no. It's Magic Golems.

In one of these corners, there exists a human settlement where Lancing follows his father's footsteps to begin his own ascent to power. However, he finds he is far different from his gifted father, whose scales below his eyes were among the purest ever seen, reaching gem-like quality. Far from perfect, Lancing shows no desire to give up and ceaselessly moves forward to reach the peak of the universe.
