Chapter 424: [ You’re looking for death, Godkin!! ]
Allen coldly looked at the monster in front of him. No matter how beautiful it looked or how rare of a beast it was, it had to pay price for looking down on him—and most of all, for injuring his woman.
That was the greatest taboo in his heart!
Allen raised his head and looked upward. Due to the collapse just now, he can now see a small hole towards the surface. Although it was a bit small, with its size, Allen, and the others can easily pass through it.
The five of them held their ground while waiting for the Fire Bird to make its move first. They were afraid that if they were to attack then, the Fire Bird would hide in the lava which will then made it hard for them to kill it.
As they stood where they were, they observed the monster.
“It is really unexpected that a mythical beast such as this would be in this kind of place. Besides, I felt as if this monster’s power was out of normal. This thing is basically a little different than an ordinary Mystical Beast.” Lama’s surprised voice suddenly sounded next to Allen’s. From the looks of it, the shock that this Firebird gave her was quite big.
Allen nodded his head in shock within his heart. He didn’t know what kind of mythical beast it was now since he hadn’t seen the likes of it before. However, the aura it released was certainly much stronger than the Phoenix he had seen in the previous life…!!
Even still, Allen has some suspicion regarding it and most likely he wasn’t wrong.
Against that Phoenix in his previous life, Allen with his former power was able to contend against it even though he lost miserably. But in this life, he was confident that if they would encounter again in this life, he would be able to defeat it without a problem.
But against this guy in front of him right now, Allen felt a bit depressed.
It was certainly a troublesome monster, this Firebird that is…!
“Master, what do we do now? This thing is actually so terrifying. We… do we capture it” Dakna anxiously asked Allen.
“Directly capture it? If I were at my peak, we could give it a try. Now… I’m not sure.” Allen smiled bitterly.
He was still a bit constrained right now due to the Curse of the Death Mask, thus, he wouldn’t be able to muster all of his power.
Of course, even with this handicap, Allen was certain he could defeat the Fire Bird or at least, make a draw with it. However, that was on the precondition that he must exhaust all his power as well as his life to do so.
Fight with no care for his life…
Using all his trump cards, he was confident he can defeat it—but what then…?
“… Looks like we really can’t reach understanding, you bastard bird brain,” Allen looked down on the Firebird. His enchanting eyes indifferently swept over the monster.
He clenched his hand and a black eerie sword flashed and appeared.
A fierce glow appeared in his eyes.

And at this time, the Fire Bird had already lost its patience, and roaring, it caused a blast of red-hot magma beside it to curl up. And as if heavenly maiden dispersing flowers, they fiercely shot towards the sky.
That ultra-high temperature seemed to be burning the air itself.
Thickly dotted with no gap, they completely blocked all the route of retreat of Allen’s group.
Allen smirked. His body moved. It rushed toward the Fire Bird in a ghost-like manner.
Circulating his magic power, he suddenly revealed bright golden blue radiance.
“Whirlwind!!” Allen let out a muffled shout which reverberated in this wide cave. And he slashed in the air with extremely fast speed—then, sparkling and translucent small tornados formed in an instant, and crackling with lightning sparks and furious wind. It was akin to a wrath of a Thunder God!
After that, along with the pointing of Allen’s sword tip, they whistled towards the blast of magma. And those blasts of red-hot magma were unexpectedly stopped the magma pillar and slowly devouring them while small wind blades whizzing all around.
Bang!! And as sudden as a flash of lightning, they advanced towards Fire Bird like roaring wild beasts—with several bang sounds, the Fire Bird was hit and directly smashed into the magma.
Cryyaaaaahhh.......!!
The Fire Bird was enraged and a flamethrower with a circumference as big as a five basketball instantly flew from its mouth. Allen raised his sword again when Dakna and Xinghong stood in front of it and let out their own flamethrower. Even Lan also joined in with its beautiful blue colored flames.
CRYAAAAAHHHH!!!
Contempt and disgust appeared on its pair of translucent gem-like eyes as the Fire Bird’s aura once again exploded and while attacking, it spreads its humongous wings and started rushing towards Allen’s direction. It wanted to kill Allen as soon as possible!
It started to fly out…!!
“Come! I’ll make you regret it antagonizing me!!”
Allen’s arms spread open.
A black thundercloud abruptly gathered above them.
“You bastard beast! Who do you think I am!? I’m the Emperor of Beast; Allen Bando!! How dare you look down on me!!” Allen scowled in a low cold voice.
“Punish the Damn Beast!! Mamaragan!!!”
Allen lifted his head to stare at the sky filled with black thunderclouds. His ferocious eyes gleamed with crazed colors. Within the thunderclouds, the golden and bluish-white lightning seemed to creep around like a massive dragon as it released an indescribable power.
Boom!
Immediately after, the dark clouds let out a deep rumbling sound, which echoed throughout the entire Cavern. Allen gritted his teeth and his entire body trembled.
CRYAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!
Feeling the strange yet wild fluctuation of energy and the dark thunderclouds above, a shock flashed across the Firebird’s eyes. A clear cry rang out once again. The Fire Bid’s enormous wings stretched out from within the flames and magma, then suddenly deep crimson flames surged out all over the place. It turned into numerous flame pillars and fiercely charged at Allen.
The Fire Bird actually dared to take the initiative to launch an attack at Allen while it was being kept still by Dakna and the others.
Boom!
The black thundercloud quietly surged and a lightning-started winding and swirling. Allen stared coldly at the flame pillars charging over at him. No anxiety and fear appeared in his still indifferent expression.

Then, a lightning-filled with destructive power immediately rushed down.
Bang Bang Bang!
The lightning and flames collided fiercely. The entire world seemed to have exploded at that moment, as countless ringing sounds that can burst one’s eardrums rang out one after another. Then, the loud rumbling sound made the earth tremble violently and cracks spread out from the cavern walls, slowly causing the entire temple of fire to collapse.
“Dakna, take Lama and fly out into the surface first! Fighting in this place would be detrimental to us…”
Allen muttered as he kept his gaze on the struggling Firebird. He waved his hands like a skillful conductor of an orchestra and the more his hands move, the stronger the lightning struck down the ground and the Firebird.
Dakna immediately nodded her head and grabbed Lama from Allen’s hands. With Xinghong and Lan, they flew out and break through the surface, where the heat of the sun that seemed to have been affected by the Temple of Fire’s effects.
Within the magma cavern, the flames, magma, and lightning were wreaking havoc crazily.
It was evident that Allen’s lightning is an extremely terrifying thing. The lightning descended down as if it was attempting to destroy everything in the world and shattered countless flame and magma pillars.
Cryaaaaahhhh!!! The Firebird let out a painful cry as it was bombarded by the massive thunderstorm above Allen. The flames on the body of the Firebird's body temporarily appeared somewhat dim for a short period after it received the ruthless bombardment of the thunderstorm.
It was when it fell back into the terrifying sea of boiling magma and blazing flames before the fierce flames once again rose from the large body of the Firebird. It seemed to be slowly celebrating its wounds and lost vitality!
The wild, violent energy within the Firebird appeared to have once again recovered greatly following the rise of the flame. This human… The Firebird slowly lifted its enormous head, and it fiercely glared at Allen who was suspended in the air while being covered by Lightning sparks like a real Thunder God.
I KILL YOU!!!!
Golden flames roiled around in the Firebird’s eyes.
The flames in its eyes were swirling in doubt as if it was cursing him. Seeing its pupils shrinking, Allen surmised that something was about to happen.
Cryaaaaaaaahhh!! Then just as Allen was about to withdraw, the Firebird cried out toward the sky, its voice akin to a mournful cry of a desolate Banshee. That sharp sonic wave appeared substance-like as it swiftly spread out. Finally, it shook the surrounding magma and fire pillars, carrying waves of swiftly shaking ripples, like a stone thrown on a still lake.
Due to the energy enveloping the area was far too large, Allen was also wrapped into it. It was fortunate that Allen was alert and intelligent.
Boom!!
He swiftly crossed his arms in front of his chest and jumped backward, towards the small opening to the surface. However, even covering his body with his aura, the heat and power of the Firebird’s flames still caused his arms to burn a bit, causing him endless pain.
“Tsk—!!”
Being directly hit by the shockwave, Allen’s body flew backward, passing through the small opening on time, he was thrown outside and landed heavily on the hot sands. His throat instantly had a sweet taste and he could not help but spit out fresh blood. It was as if the bones in his body were collapsing.
“Master!!”
“Allen!!” Seeing Allen came out, Dakna, Lama and the others frantically rushed towards him.
“Damn that bastard….” Allen wiped off the blood from the corner of his mouth and let out a wry smile.
That power was just too strong and his logia body was useless against it. He felt as if he was a tofu in a wok full of boiling oil. Even his Dragon body was proven ineffective… Probably, because it wasn’t merely physical but pure flames that were burning his body—flames coming from its original body…!!
—It seems like not just pure flames, he felt something from those flames it emitted.
Emotions…pain…life…
Allen hobbled as he stood up. But just as he was about to call out to Dakna and the others, his face instantly changed as he lifted his head.
“Not good!”
There, a massive firebird was looking down on him.
At this moment, the flame on the fire bird’s body began to rise more intensely. Even the surrounding air had become distorted to the point where the gazes that were looking at the Firebird could only see a vaguely enormous body.
“Arrogant…!!”
Seeing this, Allen snorted as his aura burst out. His silver hair swayed in the air and his coat fluttered.
“Human… you have the guts to attack a mythical beast like me! It seems like the Godkins had apparently become egoistic just because I had kept my silence for long.” A deep voice rang out, spreading through the air like a ripple in the sky.
Allen smirked. “Hmph! What? You can’t finally endure acting like a mute and talk…? Or, did you finally realize I am not just a mere nobody…?”
Suddenly, the golden flame in the Fire Bird’s eyes glowed brightly. It was like two golden suns as it glared at Allen in hate and frustration. The flames around its body burned even brighter as if it was on fire and a fiery golden colored hazy crown appeared on its head.
“A mere nobody…? Does it have any differences? All of you are ants beneath me! Even High Gods bow to me! A mere Deity confronts me…? You’re looking for death, Godkin!”
Allen’s eyes narrowed. “Looking for death…? Hmph! We still yet to see who is really looking for death…!!”
The Fire Bird had finally shown its true self. Although Allen had gotten proof of his suspicions, he was a bit discouraged to see this. It seems like it was really Bennu and not just any Bennu. Judging from its aura and power… this bastard seemed to be even stronger…!!
“YOU’RE COURTING DEATH—GODKIN!!!!”
Was it cultivating itself within that Magma…?

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
