《Story of a Killer》Chapter 4 - Manifestation

POV Change - Natasha
Natasha picked up the big figure leaning on her and put him over her shoulder. Nox followed closely behind her, checking to see if there was anything wrong with Damon.
Natasha couldn't help but playfully run her hands along Damon's perfectly muscular body. And Nox couldn't help but shake his head disapprovingly while muttering something about her committing a crime.
'Mhmm...This kid really does have an amazing body, even when compared to people who've Manifested.'
Natasha thought multiple lines like these when she was walking toward the room for surgery and before she knew it, she was knocked out of her daydream and greeted by the sight of the fully prepped operating room.
She flung Damon onto a bed which locked restraints around his arms and legs.
Meanwhile, Natasha was washing her hands and putting on the necessary apparel for the surgery. By the time she'd put everything on, she didn't look anything like her usual self. Her blonde hair was unseen and her face was completely still without emotion.
Natasha walked over to the operating table Damon was currently strapped into and the people surrounding him who were prepping him for surgery.
Natasha saw they weren't done yet so she walked over to a sterile box and opened it. Coming from inside, a white glow lit up Natasha's bright blue eyes. Natasha looked at the origin of the white glow and saw a kite-shaped crystal.
'Every time I see one I can't help but wonder; How did we manage to make something so beautiful?'
Natasha continued to look at crystal for a while before one of the supporting doctors called her over and told her they were ready for the surgery. Natasha closed the box and walked over to the table.
She picked up a scalpel and easily sliced through Damon's chest and started the surgery.
She kept slicing with expert and calculated cuts and before long, Damon's chest was completely open for all to see. Natasha told someone to bring the box over to her and when she got the box, she opened it up and grabbed the white crystal.
Natasha's body went slightly green as she lined the crystal up with Damon's heart.
After making sure she was ready, Natasha ordered the others to deliver the injections to Damon's major muscle groups and then to give the deep bone injections.
All the others around her nodded and got to their specific tasks while Natasha made sure to not move the crystal as she'd got it as in line with Damon's heart as possible. As soon as the liquid in the syringes were injected into his body, Natasha swung the crystal up and them down into Damon's heart in one swift motion.
The crystal reacted instantly and started to glow red and white as it mystically sunk into Damon's heart.
Natasha and the others got to work quickly and removed the equipment holding Damon's chest apart. Once they did it, they let out a sigh of relief as Damon's chest started to pull itself together again and start to heal.

All the surgeons were used to this sight and they ignored it as they left the operating room.
Nox came forward as he looked at the wriggling muscles on Damon's body and Natasha looked at him with a weird glint in her eye before looking at the screen next to the operating bed.
"So we know what he's manifesting yet, Natasha?" Nox's curious but ultimately carefree voice sounded out next to her as he casually took out a cigarette and lit it, taking casual puffs from it.
"Not quite yet, but he is leaning more towards the Undead side of things." Natasha absentmindedly spoke as she continued to tap away at the keyboard in front of her while monitoring the changes in Damon every once in a while.
Nox nodded as he walked out of the room, telling Natasha to call him when he Manifests fully.
Inside Damon's body, multiple changes were happening. His muscles were growing stronger and stronger, his bones were getting harder and harder and his organs were getting better and better.
Slowly but surely his hair started to change. It started to lighten visibly and soon became as white as snow. Nothing else seemed to change when it came to his appearance at first glance. Natasha wasn't surprised with his hair color change, it was a natural occurrence to those who Manifested.
Most supernatural creatures and races had certain hair colors and so it wasn't strange those who Manifested aspects of that race would gain a certain hair color.
A few hours past like this. Damon had slightly changed in appearance, he'd grown an inch and his muscles seemed to have gotten even more defined than before while seeming even firmer than before. His skin color also darkened slightly adding even more contrast between it and his pure white hair.
A beep went off, dragging Natasha's attention away from the computer in front of her and focusing it on Damon who was opening his eyes slowly.
"Nox, get in here, he's awake!" Natasha yelled for Nox as she walked over to Damon before she realized something was wrong. His eyes were unlike the mesmerizing gold they were before and were now bright yellow. Even weirder, his pupils had changed into slits from their normal human appearance.
Natasha quickly dashed back to the computer she'd just left as Nox came in and looked at her hurried appearance inquisitively.
"What are you doing, Nat?" Nox yawned and stretched as he spoke but his nonchalant attitude as he saw Damon start to thrash about.
"He's going into a Berserk state, his Gift is sending him over the edge because of the new instincts he's gained. I'm trying to figure out what he manifested so I can suppress him." Natasha's hands flew across the keyboard as she sought the answers.
Nox could only watch as he saw Damon's muscles bulge and contract as he strained his metal constraints. These constraints were made for recently Manifested Students and the fact the metal was slowly creaking terrified Nox a little bit when he thought about the potential of Damon if this was his start out strength.

"Ah, got it! Let me read the information..." Natasha leaned toward the computer and rapidly read the information appearing in front of her. "Nox, you lucky bastard, you really found a good one. Cast a Holy Aura on him, Nox."
Nox was confused with what he said but he waved his hand and sent an aura of light to surround Damon.
Instantly, Damon stopped trashing and looked devoid of all energy. Nox looked confusedly toward Natasha who was now looking through some draws next to her and before long she took a small lock and chain out and threw it at Nox.
"Imbue that with a Holy Blessing, would ya?" Nox caught it and while he was still confused, he did what Natasha asked before passing it back to her.
Natasha walked toward the subdued Damon and wrapped the chain and lock around his wrist before locking it in. Nox looked at her with a questioning look and finally spoke when she turned around. "Why'd you do all this? Why'd he go Berserk? And why did my Aura effect him so much?"
"As I said before, you brought in a really good recruit. He's a Hybrid but not just any kind of Hybrid, he's a Hybrid between 2 Lost Races." Natasha paused and her expression changed from a one of admiration to a grimace "But due to the instincts of those specific races, his Gift went into overdrive and made him lose himself a little. Oh, and because both of his races are Undead he was pretty easily subdued by you, someone who Manifested as an Angel."
Nox had a look of understanding as he canceled his Holy Aura which was blanketing Damon.
With the Aura gone, Damon slowly opened his eyes groggily. To their relief, his eyes were back to their usual soft golden yellow with normal pupils rather than the glaring and piercing bright yellow and slit pupils from before.
POV Change - Damon
Damon slowly opened his eyes and looked around the room confused by the new information he was receiving.
He could see more clearly, he could smell everything in the room and hear everything in the room including Natasha and Nox's heartbeats. It was distracting, to say the least, but after a few seconds, he gained control over them.
'Gotta feel thankful that I have my Gift, don't know how fast I could control the sense on my own.'
Feeling the restraints on his hand, Damon looked at Natasha. "You gonna take these off or what?" Damon couldn't help but feel he had to be somewhere but when he thought about it, he really didn't know why.
Without Natasha doing anything, the restraints unlocked and Damon could stand up. When he stood up, he finally felt the power coursing through his body like a raging and unstoppable river.
Lifting up his right hand and clenching it, he saw a dull golden chain and lock on his wrist. "What's this and why do I feel discomfort from merely looking at it?" the discomfort in Damon's voice caused Natasha to wryly smile as she explained his undead-related manifestation.
After explaining it all and why he had to wear it, Nox looked incredibly tired and disappointed. "Okay, I guess I'm fine with wearing this until I can control my more violent instincts. So you gonna tell me what I manifested?" a slight bit of excitement slipped into Damon's voice but he didn't know why it just happened.
Natasha walked over to her computer and clicked a button causing a piece of paper to slide out of her computer and into her hand before she walked over and handed it to Damon. "Here's all the information you'll need, so knock yourself out~"
Damon took the paper from her and looked at it. Seeing what he saw, he couldn't help but feel a little shocked.
Vampiric Ghoul (Lost Race): The Guards for the Royalty of the Undead, the Vampires. To make up for the weaker bodies of the Vampires, when compared to other Races, Vampiric Ghouls were made with the goal of being Physically Superior to most Races to cover for the Vampires weaknesses. As such, they don't have the same Weakness as Vampires which is Sunlight.
Fast, Agile and most of all tenacious, Ghouls are deadly creatures which feed on the flesh and blood of those unlucky enough to be found by such Unholy Creatures.
In this way, they operate as Bodyguards to the Royal Vampires and are even used as Assassins due to their overall compatibility with Killing. No Magical Potential. Aura Potential is Immense.
Weaknesses: Holy Items
Werewolf (Lost Race): The same as Ghouls; Bodyguards for Vampires. Despite them doing the same job, there was no camaraderie between Ghouls and Vampires meaning they had to be put on different guard shifts. Werewolves on the Day shift when the Vampires slept and Ghouls on the Nightshift when the Vampires were awake.
Physical Brutes, Brilliant Senses, and Incredible Instinct, Werewolves make brilliant Fighters and even better Bodyguards.
No Magic Potential. Aura Potential Immense.
Weakness: Silver
Damon felt a bubble of pride in his chest when he looked at what he'd manifested but he wasn't quite sure where it came from. Along with this pride, he felt an emptiness in his chest, like he needed to do something and when he read the information about the two races, he really hoped it wasn't what he thought it was.
But sadly, Natasha burst that bubble.
"Okay, seeing what you manifested, we're sending you into the academy to both learn and to protect. We have the perfect candidate for you to protect as well!~" Natasha's gleeful voice only served to make Damon's face darken.
'I've been turned into the perfect guard and killer package, haven't I?'
Damon couldn't help but playfully remark about his own misfortune as he stood up to follow the two of them as they left the room.

But the angry ghost trapped inside the blade has other ideas. Buckle up for the brutal LitRPG ride of a lifetime Savage Hunters is an alternate-world neolothic fantasy. Characters grow their powers with explicit stat blocks presented right in the text, including levels, attribute scores, and unlockable skill trees. Experience is accumulated by battling enormous monsters the size of buildings. Political intrigue and romance elements ramp up as the series progresses. I originally wrote this story after playing Monster Hunter with my niece. She was 12 at the time, already an avid reader, and wanted to read my other published books. I'm a licensed psychotherapist specializing in severe trauma so I tend toward darker fiction. I told her my usual books are too brutal for her but I'd write her something special. The result was this series, which has been praised by both teens and adults for its depth and universal appeal. It begins with an emphasis on cultural elements because I consulted with a trained anthropologist to craft this neolithic setting down to exacting social detail. After these opening chapters, it rapidly shifts to an action-packed adventure. The first 3 books are fully written as of November 2020, totalling approximately 69 chapters. The first book has been professionally edited already. The following two books require some editing which I'll do on a chapter-by-chapter basis as releases progress. I welcome reviews and comments. Writing is a passion, and reader engagement makes my labor all the sweeter.
