《The Gods' Chosen Few》Gods' Chosen Few: Chapter 14

Dominit yelled back into the house to rouse his companions before running towards the shadowy invaders. Unsheathing his daggers from behind his back he held both in an inverted grip and slid between the legs of an attacker stabbing backwards through his knees.
He fell and howled in pain for only a second as he pierced the man’s skull. Hearing the screams of several women to the center of town Dominit took off at full speed. Rounding the corner of a building he saw many men and women were being dragged from their homes and executed on the street.
There were twenty enemies in groups of five in the center of town going from home to home. Dominit rushed to the nearest group and attacked. Having the element of surprise he eliminated three of them without as much as a scream.
The last two holding a women by her arms waiting for one of their comrades to kill her were surprised when they were the ones clutching their throats as they bleed profusely. Helping the woman to her feet and giving her a weapon from one of the dead Void’s he told her to run the direction he’d come from there would be people coming soon.
As he said this the other three groups noticed him and what he’d done. They converged hoping to surround him and end him without losing any more men. They were sent into a panic as Saber the massive tiger leapt from a nearby roof top and took three Void’s with him to the ground.
Before the others could attack arrows began to sprout from their chests. Jaslyn was on the same rooftop Saber had been on a moment ago unleashing arrow after deadly arrow into the crowd of Void’s with impeccable aim. She, Saber and Dominit cleaned up the rest of the overwhelmed Voids.
When she came jumping from the rooftop her foot caught on a loose tile and came tumbling towards the ground. Dominit without a single thought about what had happened was already moving to catch her. When he did so she thanked him and he put her down.
“Where’s Justin and Cassy?” Jaslyn pointed back to her house. “I don’t need much time to get ready for battle just a bow and some arrows. Justin and Cassy on the other hand need to don their armor or they might die.” He nodded and told her to gather up the survivors and take them somewhere safe as he didn’t know the town like she did.
She did as she was instructed and Saber took off behind her. She turned around and shouted “I’ll leave Stella in your hands be good to her or else.” Upon her finishing what she was saying Stella swooped down and landed on Dominit’s shoulder with a strange gem in her beak.
She spat it out and Dominit caught it. As soon as he did however he heard a woman’s voice. “Hello master I am the one called Stella. I will be in your care for the time being please treat me well.” Dominit froze and looked at the falcon sitting on his shoulder. “Ok. The fuck?”

“Nice to meet you officially Stella. Think you could provide aerial support and update me on the enemies’ whereabouts and any people who are in danger?” She bowed her head and took flight high into the night sky. “Master I see four of these black clothed people trying to surround my lady Jaslyn could you please assist?”
“I’m on my way Stella. Where is she?” “She is currently three buildings north of you rounding up any who can fight to protect those who can’t. The black people are trying to get a height advantage with their bows on the surrounding buildings.”
Dominit started north. Farther away from where Justin and Cassy would be coming from but he was needed. He found Jaslyn exactly where Stella said she’d be and was putting up a great resistance. Seeing the shadows on top of the building Dominit prepared to shadow walk into the nearest wall.
Popping out right behind the furthest one he stabbed the woman in her chest hoping he’d hit her heart but from the sound of the gurgling coming from her it was the lungs. He picked up the short bow she’d dropped and quiver of arrows and began aiming for the others on his level.
Taking his time as he wasn’t the crack-shot Jaslyn was he still managed to kill two more before they could loose any arrows into the defending forces back side. The last member on the rooftops managed to kill a man running away from the battle drawing her attention. Before she could reacquire a target Dominit brought her down.
Once the nuisances up high were dealt with Dominit looked down to see how the battle was doing. Currently they were losing. Jaslyn had grouped a good forty or fifty people up and got over half of them to fight but a force of twenty five novice warriors against those whose whole religion was to slaughter every one indiscriminately they were hopelessly out matched.
That was of course until Jaslyn was cut in the right arm. People began to lose hope if the only person giving them orders was taken from them they’d have no hope. Many prepared to run if things got any worse then a loud roar came from behind the enemy lines and there stood Justin and Cassy. Cassy was dressed in leather armor with a sword and small buckler.
Justin on the other hand was wearing chainmail chest armor with leather pants opting for more mobility with his legs. A helmet with devil horns and a smiling devil’s face made from some material Dominit had never seen as the metal helmet was black as obsidian and the face mask as red a blood. On one shoulder he had a large shoulder armor with many spikes sticking out of it meant for ramming straight into his enemies.
The most intimidating thing was the weapon he held. It was a massive seven foot long halberd. A massive crescent moon axe head on one edge on the other a nine inch long curved blade almost like a dagger meant for stabbing on the backswing. The top and bottom also had sharp spikes honed and polished. Just like his helm and hair the metal shaft of the axe was black while the blades were red.

Seeing Jaslyn injured he’d roared and began to sprint dead long into the group of over one hundred enemies without a second thought. Dominit watched in awe as he began to wade through them like they were nothing more than insects that needed to be swept aside.
The ground quickly became covered in blood making the fight more dangerous for the large group and seemed like Justin grew faster and stronger while fighting in it. Trying to salvage the situation many of the Void attacked him but for every wound they inflicted on him he dished out two or more and most of the time all lethal.
Dominit also saw one stab him straight through the chest where his heart was. Before anyone could scream out in terror of this monster savour he laughed and puled the two foot sword from his chest and threw it back at the one who’d impaled him with it. Seeing that nothing they did affected this monster the church of the Void let out a signal to retreat.
They never made it twenty feet away. While Justin took all of their attention Cassandra had followed up with the distraction killing many on her own. As they ran however Justin and Cassandra were practically useless. If they gave chase there was always a chance they’d be ambushed. Jaslyn and Dominit took care of the runners.
Dominit threw his quiver to Jaslyn and jumped from the rooftop. Just before landing in an ally away from view of the others he shadow walked and came out of a wall in the ally the Void members chose as their escape point. As arrows came careening in from around the corner killing any who couldn’t make it in they saw a figure appear a head of them seemingly from nowhere.
“You idiots chose the wrong place.” He then began to stab, slash, cut, and bleed them in the narrow alley. Only one could face him at a time and if there was anything Dominit excelled at was fighting one slow moron. Seeing their comrades’ further ahead being slaughtered the ones in the back began to scream in terror as a shadowed monster tore the flesh from them.
Everyone back with Jaslyn, Justin, and Cassy couldn’t make out what was happening. All they heard was the screaming. After a minute only a few screams remained and they were getting closer. Jaslyn raised her bow thinking a new threat was here. Three people from the Void ran out of the alley back to Jaslyn’s group begging for mercy.
Everyone was shocked as no one had ever heard of the Void’s minions begging for mercy since death was what they all wanted. Before anyone could decide what to do two knives came careening out of the alley hitting the furthest of the runners while the one in behind just ran past their dead bodies.
Jaslyn took aim with her bow but was too late as a shadow flew from the same alley and was upon him killing him. Every one gathered their weapons preparing for a fight when Jaslyn spoke up. “How in gods’ name did you do that?” Dominit rose from the body and began collecting his others daggers and cleaning them.
He shrugged and smiled which seemed ice cold with the blood covering his mouth and body. “A magician never reveals his secrets my dear.” Everyone else was confused as they didn’t know what Jaslyn meant. “Haha seriously. You just dropped me your arrows and the next thing we hear is them screaming. Not a minute after you’re there cleaning them up.”
He kept his smile but stayed silent. “Master I have confirmed that no other intruders remain in town” Dominit visibly flinched before responding “Ok first off warn me you can talk to me in my mind because that’s a little freaky and god job.” “Of course master my apologies and thank you for your praise.” Stella suddenly flew down and landed on Jaslyn’s shoulder.
“Hi sweetheart did Dominit take care of you?” The bird didn’t respond in any visible way but Jaslyn laughed. “Good he kept you out of harm’s way and feeding him information that’s smart.” Everyone around her didn’t respond to her talking to the bird not as if they knew they could communicate but because they’d accepted this crazy side of her.
Daylight soon crept over the village. Knights from a nearby outpost soon after. They’d received a warning from their oracle that an attack on this village was imminent. They tried to convince people to leave when they first arrived not noticing the clear signs of battle before the village chief told them it was already over.
The knights seemed confused after hearing this. Of all the places attacked by the Void none stood unless they were a large city that had walls and months’ worth of supplies to outlast them. After telling the knights the story of events that had transpired they looked in awe towards the small group relaxing on a broken wagon.
That was the first tale of Jaslyn’s Chaos Breakers. With Jaslyn the Beast Master. The Undying Berserk Justin, the Princess Knight Cassandra and a mystery fourth man. No one knew what his name was all the only word they heard about him was “Shadow”.
