《Reincarnation, the beginning.》Chapter 8 ~Kharsuma and meeting~

{2 weeks later}
Someone came to take my father. Before they left, they spoke about something, but I couldn't hear it. My father made a serious expression. It intrigued me so I looked out the threshold of the house. I saw men gathering in the chief's house. But my interest was suddenly interrupted by my mother, who took me. She said something to me, but in my head remain one thought: 'What are they doing there?' She took me somewhere else, but I was still looking at the house of the chief. She took Ilis with us, and we went to one of the elders' house. Elders are not necessarily old people, unlike their name suggested. It was more like a title, a hierarchy. On the top is Royalty – the chief's family, which can be distinguished by their purple eyes. They reproduce until a son with violet eyes is born. Only a male with violet eyes could be the chief of the village. A royal female can participate in meetings. Saurians are third in the hierarchy. We can participate in the meetings, but we aren't allowed to speak up our thoughts. Again, females from 2nd and 3rd hierarchy weren't allowed to even enter the meeting room... They really are discriminated, but what can I do with my position... The second in the hierarchy are elders, who can speak up and take a decision when it comes to serious matters, like war or changing the location of the village. Sometimes, they have private meetings before the normal meetings. We are now standing in front of elder Kharsuma's house. Mother told me that he ignore the two other tribes, which are in good relationship with us. Nobody knows why, but some saurians think that he consider them as a part of our tribe. He doesn't approve of the industrial area either, which had been created not long ago, around 20 years ago. According to the traditions, every saurian should follow their parent's footsteps after birth, and not learn from the others. Yet, the industrial area would allow others' apprenticeship, which is why he won't approve of it. While I agree with him about connecting tribes, since 'United we stand, together we are strong', I am conflicted about his traditions. It's good that everybody has a chance to do what they want, but this could lead to inequalities. For example, a small number of hunters, causing the lack of food. If saurians are not trained in hunting, death will follow, along with a baby bust. After the death of their mate, females could remarry: -with their son, if they wanted to, but they needed to already have a wife first. -with another male (unrelated), but he couldn't be already married. The males could remarry to: -they couldn't marry their daughters, but they could take their sisters if they weren't married already. And as I said earlier, they could also marry their mother. -with another female (unrelated), but she couldn't be more than 5 years younger than him. Saurians don't treat incest as a taboo. But aside from this. Maybe there is some kind of system, deciding who will do what in their future. If not, I should take care of it. We were brought here by mother to learn about the past of our tribe. Kharsuma didn't mention the fact that after the war, our tribe was divided into three smaller tribes, which are called: - the Vim tribe – this is our tribe, we specialize in strength and cold steel. - the Agi tribe – this one specialize in agility, bows and Mausers. - the Evo tribe – this one specialize in Skill Magic and the invention of new weapons. They share new technologies with us, but who know what they are inventing in secret. Ilixochit's Forest had been cut in two pieces, the north, and the south forest. We are in the center of the north forest. In the west of north forest, there is the 'Agi tribe', and in the east of north forest, there is the 'Evo tribe'.

We got to know that trades with other tribes is pretty simple, based on the exchange of stuff of the same value or quantity. In the mainland of humans, the transactions revolve around coins. 1 gold coin is equal to 100 silver coins and 1 silver coin is equal to 100 copper coins. Jewels were used by nobles and merchants. Coins could be melted down into bars, but only the richest nobles, merchants, kingdoms or empires would do this. But this is a pre-war information that we got 200 years ago. They might even be using banknotes now. I wonder how they are doing with technological progress. Steam machines could be fun to see. Kharsuma thought us about mathematics too, addition and subtraction. I don't have to learn this, but I helped Ilis with math. It was pretty hard at the beginning, pointing things with my pen, but somehow she began to get what I meant. I help her with different methods, which suprised even Kharsuma, while I was explaining to her by pointing or solving exercises. I noticed her improvement with each exercise.
I could develop our tribe with my knowledge from my past life, but first, I must do something with cubits, which are annoying as fuck... but how am I supposed to change it into centimeters...? If I am not wrong one centimeter is approximately the width of the fingernail of an average adult person. A human adult person, unfortunately we have claws. But still, I must wait until I mature enough, for now they won't listen to me. However, it's good to manifest some symptoms of being a genius. They will be more willing to listen to me in the future. I could say some words, but it's harder than I thought. Ilis has some difficulties too, that's why learning the alphabet could help us a lot. Saurians are really incredible. In the age of 13, they're already full grown and treated like adults among the other saurians: the threshold of adulthood. Even their mentality mature quicker. I didn't notice it earlier, but there aren't others saurian with the same age like me or Ilis. I know that there are two saurians who will soon enter adulthood, 11 and 12 years old. Male and female, engaged. There isn't any single woman. Relationships between men are prohibited as well as females and would result in exile. The outcasts would lack status anywhere since they could be recognized by a scorched symbol on their body, is easy to spot. Thanks to the information I gathered in the past two weeks, I managed to obtain 3 more points of Intelligence and Wisdom. [Chief's House]

"Most of you are probably wondering why I brought you here". People nodded.
"Some of our hunters noticed that over the years, the number of monsters increased, along with their strength". They listened attentively as the chief continued.
"They aren't a big problem yet, but there were cases where some of them crossbred, creating mutated species with even greater strength and lifespan. Some of you probably don't want to hear about the disaster which happened several years ago". Ugly faces could be seen. The monster that day didn't take only one young Saurian, but several.
"The first encounter was made with Ahmuus". The Chief's hand pointed at Ahmuus, sitting in the darkest place of the room. There was nobody who hadn't heard of him.
"But unfortunately, he couldn't kill it". It was a serious matter. Nobody ever heard about Ahmuus allowing a monster to run away. Some of them even made a face full of pity. The Chief saw that.
"Fools! It was several years ago! Even now, none of you would manage to make it alive of that fight!". The pitiful expressions disappeared, as some of the saurians even made an apologetic one.
"I think that this monster could be the one responsible for the changes". Now nobody dared to look at Ahmuus with pity, as they now knew that it must have been a very strong opponent. First, the leader is always strong. Second, he must know magic to change other monsters. Third, leader + magic = really bad.
"But there is the second possibility, which has been passed down from generation to generation. The humans may have summoned a hero, which made the Evil Gods angry". People nodded, but the possibility of summoning a hero was very low. That's why everybody converged for the first option.
"Hence, here is my advice: from now on, it is best for everyone if you go hunting in groups of three peoples". People nodded. Even if it was just an advice, every word uttered by the chief was considered as an order.
Everybody went home to share the news.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
