《Modern Deity》Chapter 24: The Test

Inside the simulation chamber were several different beds lined up against each wall. The room itself was pretty big, and each bed was seven feet long. There were six beds lined up against each wall, and placed on each bed was a silver helmet.
"Please go to the first two beds and put the simulation helmet on. You will be notified when the simulation will start." A man in white said.
Kyte nodded as Azali happily replied. They both walked toward the two closest beds and laid down on them. Kyte put on the helmet and found that the inside was very soft.
"Hey, Kyte."
"What?"
"Good luck!"
"Right..."
"You're not gonna say it back?!"
"Good luck?"
"There you go."
Kyte silently sighed as he waited for the notification. He didn't have to wait long as just a few seconds afterward, the notification appeared: Brain Scan complete, simulation will begin in five seconds. Please, close your eyes now.
The countdown started, and it slowly counted down to zero. When it did, Kyte felt like he was being sucked out of his body. He felt like his mind was being sucked out from the top of his head, however, just a split second later, he opened his eyes.
Kyte looked around and found himself to be within an abandoned city. Broken and destroyed buildings surrounded him; it was as if the city was bombed for hours on end during a war. There were even small fires and occasionally an explosion would sound off.
This is really post-apocalyptic.
A robotic voice sounded out in Kyte's ears and faint flashes of light appeared in random locations around him. Kyte spread out his Spiritual energy and encompassed all of the D rank Guardians within it. After lacing it with Internal energy, Kyte destroyed the heads of every single Guardian, thoroughly completing the first wave in a split second.
The Gifted that were overseeing the simulations were surprised at this sudden advancement. They weren't surprised that Kyte was able to pass the first wave; they were surprised that he passed the first wave before one second had passed. Something like this has never happened before.
What surprised them even more was that Kyte did the same thing with the next wave of C rank Guardians. The round was over in a split second. Kyte didn't even move one inch, but all of the Guardians' heads were completely crushed. The B rank Guardian wave began, and to their astonishment, the same thing happened for the third time in a row. Kyte didn't even move but all of the Guardians were destroyed. It had taken about ten seconds to reach the A rank Guardian wave.
When the A rank Guardian wave started, Kyte spread out his Spiritual energy once again. The crimson Guardians began to quickly navigate toward Kyte. He quickly tried to crush their heads, but his Internal energy was just too weak. His Spiritual energy was indeed very strong, almost at the high seventh stage. However, his Internal energy is too weak. Even if his Spiritual energy is significantly strong, if his Internal energy isn't as strong then the powerful Spiritual energy won't do much.
However, he did damage them quite a bit. His Internal energy may be weaker than his Spiritual energy, but that doesn't mean it's weak. The Guardians had several dents across their metallic bodies, but other than that they weren't damaged at all. Right when Kyte noticed that his Internal energy attack did nothing, he sprang into action.

Leaping up onto a building to the left, Kyte created two energy poles in each hand. When the first Guardian appeared in his vision, Kyte lifted his hand and extended the pole to pierce the Guardian within the fraction of a second. The energy stabbed directly through the Guardian's body and slashed upward. The energy cleanly sliced through the metal and destroyed the top half of its body.
A second Guardian appeared, and Kyte lifted his left hand and destroyed it in the same way. Then another, and another, and another. The Guardians continued to jump toward Kyte from every direction, but he still only extended the energy and slashed through their bodies. Eventually the amount of Guardians got to an uncontrollable amount. Instead of bringing the energy back to him, Kyte kept it extended and continued to wildly slash the Guardians apart.
Kyte was moving so fast that there was only a blur of crimson energy moving back and forth between Guardians. The blur would move and three Guardians would instantly be destroyed. Although Kyte calmly proceeded, he was still only human. A few Guardians got close enough to launch attacks toward him. Kyte used Iron Body while switching his weapons to two energy swords.
What is this? These Guardians are merely throwing themselves at me.
A few hits landed on Kyte's armor, but they did nothing at all. He still didn't use his various buffs to increase his power because he simply didn't need them at the moment. As he continued to slash the Guadians apart, Kyte noticed the number of them was dwindling. One Guardian was left, and as it jumped at him, Kyte simply extended his sword and slashed it in half.
Kyte deeply exhaled and looked around him, but no voice sounded in his ears. Kyte moved to a higher building and surveyed the surroundings, and even used Spiritual energy, but he still found nothing.
Suddenly, he heard the faint sounds of movement behind him. Right when he turned around, a metallic blade smashed against his chest. He was sent flying off the top of the fifteen-story building.
What? How was I not able to sense them?
When Kyte was a few stories above the ground, several blurs jumped through the air toward him.
A pincer attack!
Kyte twisted his body and quickly extended his energy out into two long spikes. He furiously spun his body to create a raging whirlwind, making himself look like a crimson tornado. Huge gusts of wind surrounded the area and the few blurs slightly slowed down, however, the decrease in speed was small.
Kyte successfully destroyed three of the Guardians, but three more still slashed at him. He felt huge bursts of pain engulf his body as he was blasted down into the ground, creating a gigantic crater that caused cobweb-like cracks to spread out across the ground.
Kyte's arms and legs were broken into weird shapes and blood oozed out of his several injuries. However, his broken bones quickly popped back into place with loud cracking sounds and all the blood seeped back into his body. The Guardian's group attack shredded his outer layer of energy defense, which caused so many injuries on his body. The force behind the combined attack of the three Guardians caused more damage than Kyte thought.
Kyte quickly stood up while creating another layer of energy around himself. He saw the three Guardians land and quickly leaped to attack him, however, these three were more cautious than the ones before. One would attack form the front while the other appeared behind Kyte in his blind spot as the third attacked from the side. Right when Kyte blasted out several Sonic Blades, the Guardians jumped back. They turned into blurs as their feet touched the ground and they once again group attacked Kyte.

Kyte quickly extended his energy sword to try to intercept one of the Guardians, but to his surprise, the Guardian immediately stopped. The second Guardian flew up behind it and the first Guardian grabbed onto the second, using its momentum to launch it toward Kyte. All of this happened with a fraction of second, and the second Guardian's propulsion made it move even faster than before.
Kyte immediately disintegrated the energy sword and created an energy shield to cover himself. The Guardian slammed its fist directly into Kyte's shield, thoroughly destroying it and blasting Kyte off the ground and through two entire buildings. The two buildings collapsed under the intense destruction, and Kyte bounced off the ground several times which created small craters with every impact.
Kyte eventually smashed into a wall that was hard enough to stop his deteriorated momentum. His body was even worse than before. A huge gaping hole was visible in his chest and all of his bones were broken. Blood was quickly escaping through the hole in his chest and Kyte did all he could to heal himself. His Spirit energy detected the three Guardians quickly approaching his position, and it would only take a few more seconds for them to arrive.
I guess this is my limit without any buffs.
Kyte's body was almost half-way healed as he spotted the Guardians leaping over the piles of rubble. They quickly leaped toward him, but before they could attack...two pitch-black gloves appeared on Kyte's hands as he gripped a pure-white long sword while simultaneously activating the buffing functions in the three formations. His Internal energy was quickly excited as a surge of power integrated with it, increasing its power by three-folds.
Kyte manifested a thick shield of Internal energy around himself while also pouring Internal energy into Heavy Air. All of this happened with an instant, and in the next instant the Guardians' attacks landed.
This time, their attacks didn't destroy the shield. The shield still had a few cracks here and there, but it protected Kyte long enough for him to fully heal himself. With that, Kyte exploded his Internal energy outward, pushing back the three Guardians. He created an energy sword for his left hand and interlaced Spiritual energy within both of his weapons, as well as the Iron Body technique. Kyte's offensive capabilities had increased by at least four-folds now, and his defensive by at least two-folds. Feeling the increase in power in his body, Kyte unhesitatingly leaped toward the Guardians.
He moved too fast the first Guardian to react. He slashed it in half and his figure flickered before appearing behind the second Guardian. He smashed Heavy Air down on its head as he increased its weight by two tons just before it impacted. Heavy Air completely destroyed the Guardian and the earth beneath it. The last Guardian sprang into action as it slashed toward Kyte with its blades. Kyte intercepted its attack with his own swords.
The last Guardian was easily sliced into three pieces just like that. Kyte deeply exhaled as he stretched out his shoulders.
"Man, that really hurt." Kyte sighed and released his energy.
Cracking his fingers one by one, Kyte walked around to release some of the stress on his joints. Although he has an incredible healing speed, his body still builds up stress. It's mostly mental stress, however, Kyte feels as if his bones were creaking with stiffness. He looked at the destruction around him, lightly thinking of the past when he could barely complete a mile in under thirteen minutes.
Thinking of the past, Kyte didn't remember if he had ever set a real goal for himself. He knows he wants to become the strongest, but...what will he do once he accomplishes that? How long will he even survive? Kyte's interest with the many mysteries in the world only increases in each passing day. What he really wants right now is to join a Core League and discover for himself what's out there.
As Kyte was thinking this, he was completely unaware of a small flash of metallic luster move behind him. A second later, Kyte felt fear well up inside him. He began to panic because he wasn't aware of anything that could make him feel this fear. Thinking back to the earlier battle, Kyte remembered that he battled against those six Guardians and had destroyed them all. However, what became of the one that attacked him on top of the building?
Before Kyte could react, he felt a metallic coldness slice through his body from his right shoulder. It cleanly cut through his flesh and slashed his body in half. The force from the attack blasted Kyte's body forward several hundred feet, and both halves of his body smashed into several different hills of rubble and walls. His lower half disintegrated into dust as his top half slowly began to create his new lower body. His upper body landed within a corner of a destroyed building and a small puddle of blood was becoming more apparent underneath him.
The reason why Kyte took so much damage was because he was completely unprepared. He didn't set up any type of defense, therefore the Guardian's blade cleanly sliced through his body including his bones. If he had set up some defense beforehand, Kyte probably wouldn't even have been pushed back.
Although Kyte was currently missing more than half of his body, he was still alive. His healing power, that comes from the large amounts of life force that he absorbed, was quickly trying to heal his severe injury. Every time Kyte's heart would pump, blood would spurt out the right side of his body. His lungs were slightly hanging out and his intestines were draped across the ground. Blood was splattered everywhere and was quickly oozing out of his body. The only thing Kyte could do was put two healing pills into his mouth and wait.
The pills quickly dissolved into huge amounts of healing energy that circulated through Kyte's body. His healing power increased by two times, but even then it was slow. Healing cuts and what-not was easy, but creating an entire half of his body would take time. Kyte had already spread out his Spiritual energy and discovered the last Guardian quickly getting closer.
Two seconds later, Kyte saw the Guardian land a few meters away from him. Lifting its blade, it leaped toward Kyte while raising its arm. Kyte only put on a mocking smile as a black light escaped from his left hand. A split second later the entire area within two hundred meters turned into a sea of light-blue fire. Waves upon waves of fire rolled out from the epicenter of the explosion, completely destroying everything within its radius.

So, please be as critical and harsh as possible while you read this. Constructive criticism is always welcome, no matter how brutal it may be.Mature tag is there for a reason! There will be gore, adult language and a lot of things that people may think of as disgusting starting from the very first chapter. Hope you enjoy reading this fiction.

Patchwork System
Notification (cannot be ignored): For being the first being to kill another of its own species after Sublimation, Lyam Aldren is awarded the Title of Cain’s Successor. Let all fear the Kinslayer!!! Lyam Aldren, killer for hire, was just going about his business when he suddenly received a notification from something called the System. Apparently, the entirety of Earth, its denizens and its matter were transported into the world of the System, planted in 'patches' all throughout the infinite world. The world of the Patchwork System is one of challenges, where life is cheap, power is king, and Classes and levels are a thing. In a brutal world, there is perhaps room for a killer with bloodstained hands to find his own way, free of his past. However, his Title and his inherent nature plague him, his fragmented personality laid bare to those with the eyes to see, and if he doesn't become powerful enough to defeat or escape those who would use or destroy him, he will quickly be devoured by the merciless world created by the System. Compared to my previous work, this is a more 'classic' litrpg setup, with clear (if somewhat complex) progression through levels and skill gains, with a 'system apocalypse' setup. Unlike most system apocalypse story protagonists, Lyam is neither a leader nor is he particularly interested in saving his fellow Earthlings. This is a story of a man who is both endangered and set free by the destruction of his old world, as he finds both power, new discoveries, and adventure in a place where his past matters not at all and power is the only language most speak. Later in the story, there will be harem elements, but the first volume is dedicated to Lyam's first months in the System. For those who are more interested in the Heirs of the Hooded King, I am putting it on hiatus as I rework the setting and future story developments a bit.
