《Modern Deity》Chapter 67: The News

The guards opened the gate, allowing Kyte and the others to enter. They walked over the threshold which separated them from the Core, Thest City. Rather than tall, there were wide buildings lined along both sides of the street. Signs protruded from the sides above each door of the buildings. The road led down about fifty meters before it split into three different roads; one going straight, to the left, and the right. Kyte noticed that the space between the buildings increased the farther away from the gate they were, though he didn't really think of it as something important. At least it wasn't crowded, for now at least.
One of the Guards on the inside followed Kyte and gave him the directions to the nearest Reporting building. It was to the left of the four-way intersection and about a mile down. Which is, of course, unfortunate for the group. That's because all of them were incredibly weak.
Because they had depleted their food rations and only obtained water, Kyte had to compromise. He ventured into the forest and killed a few monsters and took their meat. He did his best to try to sterilize the meat before giving it to one of the unsuccessful Gifted. Kyte closely observed its reaction to the meat and, fortunately, nothing bad happened.
Concerning that fact, Kyte wondered if he was the only one bothered by the blue blood. He hypothesized that he could only absorb red blood because of the Bloodrage technique. If that was the case, then that explains why Kyte's body reacted so intensely when he came into contact with that blue blood.
So, he fed everyone else with the monster meat. He asked for their opinion on the meat, to which he got favorable replies all around. How could he not notice them lying? He carefully observed them afterward but nothing bad happened. So, he continually fed them the monster meat until they finally left the forest. Of course, he stored some of it for the journey beyond the forest.
As for Kyte, he sustained himself purely on energy. Unfortunately, he used up some life force to do so, but there nothing he could do. He couldn't eat the meat and he wanted to keep the water for the others.
Due to all of this, and the fact that none of them cleaned up in weeks, they looked like they just exited a war-zone. They smelled horrible, their clothes had rips and tears, and their hair was disheveled. All of this was naturally noticed by the many Gifted walking by. Almost all of them revealed faces of disgust when they first caught a whiff of the smell, but when they saw Kyte's S rank badge, they quickly hid their expressions.
"Hey, Mark, are their cars or other vehicles here?" Kyte asked.
"Hm? Oh, yea, there are. Though you won't see any in this district. I only know this because I asked Akina the same thing." Mark replied.
"Why aren't there any in this district?"
"Well, there's just a lot more people here. There wouldn't be any room for vehicles like that."

That makes sense. Just by walking through this street I can tell that there's a lot of Gifted here.
After continuing to walk for several more minutes, the group finally arrived at the Reporting office. It was located almost directly next to the train station which was placed nearby. The train was still resting on that tracks, evident that there would be no more incoming groups to that station.
"Everyone, Mark will watch over you while I'm inside." Kyte said before he entered the building.
Inside were several desks placed around. The front desk, what Kyte assumed anyway, was located in the center of the room in-front of the door. There was a man with his chin rested upon his hand as he lazily looked at the screen on his desk. The man turned his attention to Kyte when he was a few steps before the desk. He saw Kyte's rather unclean appearance and said:
"Yes, what do you need?"
"I'm here to file a report on the Sector 31 South Train Station's arrival." Kyte replied.
"Train arrival...? Wait, train arrival? What do you mean?"
"The train I escorted was incredibly delayed due to a Guardian ambush. We were forced to travel through the forest and, unfortunately, that created another delay."
"The forest?! You said you're the escort? What rank are you?"
"I'm a Bronze S rank." Kyte slightly turned to show the badge on his shoulder.
"I see...Here, these papers will ask you certain questions. The last paper is for the written report, and it is required to be at least two paragraphs in length."
"Thank you."
Kyte walked over and sat down at an empty desk. The man at the main desk didn't object so Kyte just assumed it was fine for him to sit there. He went through the multiple questions, most of which asked for the general information pertaining to the train and number of Gifted that boarded. When he finished those, he moved on to the written report. He kept it short and only wrote two paragraphs. Of course, he kept most of the details confidential, like the white mist, memories, and Sistaina. When he was finished, he handed the papers back to the man at the main desk. He looked at him and asked:
"Can you give me the location of Sector 31 Branch 4's housing?"
"Why?"
"Because I'm a member of that Branch. I'm fairly certain you can just look it up on your computer, right?"
"...Yea, let me take a look."
The man looked at the papers and found Kyte's name on it, to which he used to search on his computer. Information about Kyte, which was submitted by Akina several months ago, appeared on the screen.
"Hm, looks like it's all here. Alright, I'll give you their location. Just be sure to randomly give the location out."
"I understand."
Kyte took the small piece of paper the man handed to him.
"One more thing, I was wondering if I could obtain a house of my own?"

"About that. You're going to have to speak with a receptionist within the S rank district. Whether or not there are spaces available, I do not know."
"Ok, thanks." Kyte thanked the man for the information before exiting the building.
Considering that the Gifted within Kyte's groups were rogue now, he had to find them a place to stay. There's no way they could all accompany him to the house where Akina and the others were living, so he had to think of something else. He also ruled out Mark's residence because he lives with his Branch. The only thing he could think of is getting a place of his own and letting the others stay there. Because Kyte's an S ranker, officially a Bronze S and unofficially much stronger, he expected that he would be granted more flexibility. However, he knew that S rankers most likely didn't amount to much in the grand scale, so he wasn't expecting too much.
Kyte decided that he would just ask Akina when they reunite. On that thought, Kyte wondered where Azali lived. Considering her father was a Fighter rank, they must've definitely obtained a higher quality of housing than an S ranker. He also wondered what district she was located in, because there's five different districts. He assumed each district was connected with each rank, though the outermost district was most likely A rank and lower. That means the second district was S rankers, third was Fighters, fourth was Kings, and the last held the ones higher than that.
To think there's still more powerful Gifted than King rankers...what's the limit?
Kyte sighed thinking about the future. He was only at the mid seventh stage concerning his Internal energy while his Spirit energy was at the early eighth stage. He didn't know whether or not the eighth stage would bring him to the Fighter level or not. His Spirit energy didn't necessarily feel like it was powerful enough to be on David Wux's level, but it wasn't extremely far off either. Considering that Kyte had to comprehend certain levels of the black light, or maybe even the spatial laws in general, he had a long way to go.
Basically all of his insights have pertained to the black light rather than the spatial laws in the universe. Granted, he did witness the gravitational waves that were created by the three giant black holes colliding, however, that didn't give him enough to actually manipulate any of the spatial laws. The black light domain was different in that he uses the black light, not the actual spatial laws, to manipulate the space within the domain. Even then, the space within the domain was different than the space outside.
Everything seemed so complicated. However, that's only because Kyte didn't understand the answers. Once he does so, he would probably become unstoppable. Of course, unless someone else comes along with the same level of comprehension, which is entirely possible. Kyte wasn't so arrogant that he believed himself to be the only one capable of comprehending such subjects. Considering that the White family was famous for manipulating gravity and space, Kyte definitely knew he wasn't the only one. He can't even manipulate gravity, or even space without his black light domain.
Anyway, Kyte regrouped with everyone else.
"Everyone, follow me. I currently don't have a place for you to stay permanently, however, I will obtain a house in the near future. We'll be traveling to my Branch's housing, so be sure to be respectful to the other members." Kyte said.
Kyte nodded toward Mark before beginning to move according to Mark's directions. It would take a while to travel to the S rank district, but Kyte still wanted to get their as fast as possible. Also, Kyte asked Mark why there were so many S rankers in the outermost district rather than the S rank district. Mark said that most S rankers don't have enough skill with forging and alchemy to sell S ranked products. Most of the items they craft are at most A rank, so they come to the outermost district to sell their products.

-S Rank District-
-Roughly an hour after Kyte filed the report...-
A young man was practically sprinting down the street toward a certain two-story house. He held an envelope in his right hand and a hint of excitement was seen in his eyes. He eventually arrived in-front of his destination, which had a tall fence that was constructed around the house's perimeter.
The house itself was as wide as the buildings in the outermost district, except this one had two-stories instead of one. It was also white in color and the large door leading into the house was crafted from a smooth, beautiful wood.
The man walked up to a small metallic box that had a screen on it. He pressed his thumb against, which lit up and scanned it. A small click noise was heard and the man entered the front yard. He closed the gate behind him, which locked into place.
He calmed his breathing before walking up to the front door. He knocked on it three times before taking a single step back as he prepared himself. After about half a minute, the door opened to reveal a startling beautiful figure. She had long, silver hair that stretched down to her hips; her black eyes seemed to pierce through the man as she stared at him. She asked the man:
"What do you want, Renald?"
Renald firmly looked into the woman's eyes and replied:
"Sir, he's finally arrived."
Did you guys see? I'm rank 38 in the weekly fictions! Woohoo! I finally made it into the top 50! Usually my highest was rank 52, but this time I finally broke through. Yay.
Anyway, the word "sir" is gender neutral in my story, so don't worry about that.
I managed to write this chapter in one day. Whew, took me several hours but I finally finished it. I'm really tired now, though.
Hope you guys enjoyed, and stay tuned for next chapter.
