TWG 24 - Little Xie vs the Harpussa Snakes
" krak! "
A branch broke into two as a a shadow ran past it.
" Woof, woof! "
The little pup barked energetically into the sky, sprinting with vigor and excitement.
The 3 little birds flew beside him, twirling in the air avoiding branches and trees, chirping in delight.
Behind them is the Daredevil Dog, who kept it's silence all this time. But just from the look of it's face, it is evident that it is having fun too.
Whenever they are out to venture the wilds, the little pup is always at the very forefront of their little group, leading the way. For the Daredevil dog, it is natural that he follows the little pup's lead for it is the little pup's servant beast. But the 3 little birds?
They are just playful and mischievous by nature, they do not care who leads them as long as they can have fun and cause mischief.
At this moment, the little pup's snout abruptly twitched.
" Ta! "
Out of a sudden, he pounced towards the direction of the 3 little birds, astonishing the 3.
But half-a second after the little pup jumped..the leaves rustled, a slithering shadow lunged it's fangs towards the blue feathered little bird, who had now realized it was in grave danger.
However, that shadow was unfortunate as the little pup had already noticed it moments before.
The little pup arrived just before it could come close to the little birds, sparks of lightning crackled in the his own fangs as he came to meet the opposing fangs of that shadow.
" Boom! " exploded the little pup's lightning, causing a glow of light to appear in the dark forest, which at the same time revealed the shadow's figure.
The shadow, which is a red-scaled snake shrieked shrilly as it instinctively darted backwards into the darkness, it's head charred into blackness.
Any experienced warrior could recognize this snake with one glance, a harpussa snake, a common magic beast usually of the 1st or 2nd rank known for it's hard head among reptilian magic beasts.
But this harpussa snake had a trait that most harpussa snake does not posses, it has a wing-like structure above it's eyes which signifies it's power as a 3rd rank harpussa snake, a magic beast that not even a group of 3rd ranked experts would like to tangle with.
What makes a 3rd rank harpussa snake terrifying is not it's power, nor is it it's venom but because it would usually command a group of harpussa snakes!
And sure enough, right after the 3rd ranked harpussa snake shrieked, countless of trees rustled in response, 7 harpussa snakes slithered from branches to branches with another 6 directly leaping out of the trees attacking from all directions towards the little pup and the little birds.
The little pup gruntled when it saw that the harpussa snake hadn't died yet. He knew that trouble was coming. Therefore, just a second before the 13 harpussa snakes came out, he had already barked towards the Daredevil dog, ordering it to protect the 3 little birds.

When he landed from his earlier attack, the little pup spent no time wasted, using it's left leg to push himself up once again into the air, it twirled to force himself to the left and appeared right at the side of the nearest harpussa snake that intended to attack him.
The little pup is after all the offspring of the Vajra-Thunder Wolf, ruler of the Mythical Beast Forest. Even if the harpussa snake is in a dropping motion, how could a harpussa snake's speed compare to him?
With one bite, the tragic snake was shredded into two in his teeth, almost instantaneously dying. But he was not done.
Two more harpussa snakes emerged, attacking him in midair. The little pup was calm, he twirled his body for a little and swiftly swiped his two paws towards another 2 incoming snakes.
" Bam! " one of them slammed right into the ground underneath the little pup and the other went straight into the trees behind him.
The little pup finally halted in midair for half a second before he did a 360 spin in midair and allow the momentum to bring himself into the ground, his right leg ahead of his body.
Stab!
it's small claws landed right in the neck of the snake he slammed to the ground a while ago, ensuring it's death.
In all but a single move, he had already killed 2 of the snakes!
Of course the other snakes wouldn't let him continue killing their kin so easily, but only 6 of them are tasked to attack the little pup, and out the 6, those 3 are the closest to him while the other 3 are still making their way.
It's not that they do not want to help, but the little pup had been too fast and in all but a moment, 2 of them had died while they weren't able to do a thing!
Right when lil Xie killed the second one, the other two finally arrived, zooming in from two different directions. With the last one falling behind a bit.
Bai Xue humphed cutely, he used his other free paw to jump back by a bit and raised the leg that was latched into the snake's neck, swinging it towards the two snakes.
A " pa! " sound rang out, and those two snakes were slapped into the side by the body of it's own kin, falling into the ground, the dead snake on top of their bodies.
The little pup wasted no more time on those two, raising it's two claws towards the last, incoming snake tasked to deal with him.
The snake bashed it's hard head onto Bai Xue's claws, with Bai Xue barely able to stop it's momentum.
Bai Xue then turned, his two claws moving sideways, allowing the harpussa snake to pass through and land on the ground.
The harpussa snake hissed fiercely, it swiftly slithered in the ground trying to attack once again.
But suddenly..
Bai Xue seemed as if he disappeared in the eyes of the snake, and a few moments later, it suddenly felt as if it's head was flying in the air.

It was dead.
The little pup, however, won't let it rest in peace as he grabbed the tail of the snake and slam it into the 2 snakes who had just escaped themselves from the body of it's dead kin.
With how long these snakes bodies are, the little pup's attack would of course reach the two of them, slamming them hard into the ground once again.
Xiao Xue then finally threw away the body of that poor snake, he did a small dash and reappeared right next to the two.
" Swa! " two spurts of blood shot towards the air, the two dead.
His paws bloodied of his enemies blood, little Xie looked around only to see the other snake he slammed to the tree dead. It had actually stabbed itself right into a sharp broken branch.
While these snakes are proclaimed to have hard heads, their bodies in turn, are not so hard, especially 1st ranked ones. Of course those ' hard heads ' in the face of the little pup's claws could only face it with a little resistance but the 2nd ranked ones could probably endure 2 or 3 hits before dying and out of the ones who attacked him, only the first and the last to attack him were 2nd ranked ones.
Only the 3rd ranked ones could possibly withstand a blow from the little pup's claws and come out unscathed. But the little pup's not dumb, why would it attack the hard head when he could go for the soft body?
The little pup, once confirming that the last of his attackers are dead, switched his attention towards the Daredevil dog and the little birds.
Sure enough, it was just as he predicted.
Although the Daredevil dog couldn't accomplish a feat as astounding as he does, especially when tasked to protect the 3 little birds, it still managed to kill 3 of the 7 attackers while only receiving negligible wounds.
The little pup then turned it's head into the direction of the 3rd ranked fermossa snake who was escaping frantically into the forest. It was not that he did not want to quickly kill the 3rd ranked snake, but that snake had hurriedly hid behind it's underlings and ran away when it saw the little pup killing it's kin like cutting paper.
That fermossa snake was indeed unlucky, it had wanted to greedily take the bite of the little birds first which is why it did not command it's underlings to attack first. It was only concerned with the Daredevil dog that was located a bit behind and didn't take notice of the little pup because of it's small body and cute look.
But unfortunately, it had to meet a freak like the little pup. Just before it could near the birds, it had already been charred black by the little pup.
But in the same time, it could be called a bit lucky too, since in that attack, the little pup had actually held back a little thinking that it was an ordinary snake beast of the 2nd rank.
How could he have thought that he would meet a rare fermossa snake of the 3rd rank, known for it's hard head. This is why this snake was able to escape with it's life, or else, with the little pup's full powered lightning fang, there was no way for even it to still live on.
But this snake was wrong in one thing, it had chosen to not escape immediately when the little pup engaged it's underlings.
With the little pup's speed and sense of hearing, how could it not locate the 3rd ranked fermossa snake?
Lightning crackled once again as the little pup arrived with blistering speed, leaving the fermossa with no hope for escape..
~~~
The battle soon ended and little xie returned with the dead, headless toasted body of the 3rd ranked fermossa snake in his mouth.
The Daredevil dog had also managed to finish 5 of the snake when the other two escaped, leaving them being the only survivors of their group.
The 3 birds chirped in delight when they saw little xie, half of the reason is because of the little pup's victory, the other is because they were about to eat a tasty snake of the 3rd rank. the 3 of them and the Daredevil fog moved hurriedly towards all ways, bringing fire wood in tow when they returned.
When enough is collected, the Daredevil dog, as a magic beast with an innate affinity to fire, blew in a breath of small flame into the wood, creating a small fire place.
Although they didn't dare to make the fire too big, a small sized fireplace won't really attract any sort of attention. These Magic Beasts are not any normal wild animals that are afraid of fire after all.
The little pup then placed the fermossa snake's body into the fire, roasting it slowly.
Because they had been staying with Li Zun for so long, these 5 could no longer bear to eat raw food, at most they would roast it first like now.
While the fermossa snake has indeed been toasted by the little pup, it's body was much bigger than ordinary snakes that there were parts of it's body that weren't that affected, since the little pup chose to attack the upper parts of it's body, focusing on it's head. Which they won't be able to eat anyway because of the poison sac that lies within.
The 5 of them soon began to munch down on the body of the 3rd ranked fermossa snake in delight.
Up above them, unknown to them sat the robed Li Zun in the air, who was smiling watching them eat.
This is already a routine for them.
Upon going out to the wild, Li Zun would usually leave them be from time to time for them to hone themselves in the wild and not lose their fangs.
Only when it would be dangerous to their lives would Li Zun interfere.
And so the night continued, with smiles on their faces.
Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)
