《Phantasmic Light》Chapter 14: Labyrinth II

A horde of monsters lazing around was what awaited me. Fortunately I hadn’t been spotted and swarmed on the spot. I hid around the corner and peeked at them from where I was sure they wouldn’t spot me. There were much more than just goblins down here. In fact I don’t think I saw more than 5 or so out of the hundreds of daemons. With that many there I couldn’t be sure if my armor would hold out or not. I wasn’t risking my life to find out either.
There were quite a few that I didn’t recognize at all, but there were also some that stuck out like sore thumbs. Such as the single minotaur that seemed to be the boss. Like legends say, he the body of a man, and the head of a bull. Only he was about 3 times my size, and carried an axe about equal his height. It’s blade had plenty of blood rusted onto its surface.
Although I couldn’t fight them all in hand to hand combat, I still had my magic. I condensed a black flame in my hand. “Dark flame.” It landed on a goblin and quickly began to spread from daemon to daemon. There were about 10 or so that couldn’t be bothered by the flame, while the rest were running around in chaos. Eventually they were reduced to cinders, and the 10 who weren’t afflicted were waiting for me since they knew I was here. The minotaur being one.
The others seemed to have an affinity with fire, so naturally wouldn’t be scared of the flame. Even if dark flame wasn’t true fire, it seemed they weren’t bothered by it in the slightest. In order to do so I shot several dark spines out, killing a few of them off instantly. So my magic was effective on them, just not the fire based one.

I picked off the rest and then then shot one at the minotaur. It shattered on impact, doing nothing more than tickle him. Since magic clearly wasn’t going to work, I decided to confront him directly. I came out from around the corner with the intent of surprising him, but he was just too far away for that to happen.
He saw me and gave me a look of disgust. He probably wasn’t too worried about the daemons I killed, rather he was annoyed that I was in his home. He brandished his axe and began to walk toward me.
I charged forward and activated dark domain in an attempt to overpower him. I punched him with full strength in the core and he was only sent back a couple feet. He coughed up some blood and then gave me a look as if to say ‘Was that all?’ It was if the thousand pounds of force behind my punch meant nothing to him.
The pressure didn’t seem to be much to him as he continued to walk toward me and then slashed his axe at me. I avoided it but the ground where I was standing was destroyed, the axe was embedded into it and the earth around it was shattered. If that hit me I wasn’t sure if I’d still be in one piece or not.
I wasn’t quick enough and was expecting him to take a little more time to attack me again with his axe. Instead he kicked me in the chest and sent me flying. It was painful to say the least, I probably broke a rib or three, and shuddered after thinking what might have happened if I wasn’t wearing this armor.
I had to end this quickly before the adrenaline wore off and these broken ribs would start to hurt a lot more. I came up with a plan, and charged at him once again and punched him in the same place. It looked like he felt it that time, and didn’t have time time to counterattack before I retreated.

He vomited out a bit more blood and I charged back in and once again punched him in the same place, only this time, my hand stuck straight into his body. I then activated broken stars. No matter how resilient his body was, if I detonated a mini supernova inside his body, there was almost zero percent chance of him surviving.
As the energy gathered above my hand, inside his body, he dropped his axe and was paralyzed by the pain. When I closed my palm to release the shockwave, his body disintegrated, along with the corpses that were left from earlier.
After using that much magic, my consciousness began to fail me as I walked toward one of the walls and leaned against it. I had my armor come off and then was asleep before I knew what was going on.

Debut: the day every young gentleperson of age gathers to receive their Spirit Blessing and shift for the first time into their second form. Except for those who don't. Beatrice's worst fear is to be one of the unlucky few trapped perpetually in a human body, cut off from the magic of the spirits and unfit for any respectable pack or pride. But when the time comes to face her fear, the outcome is one she never could have imagined. Be warned, this story is some highly experimental fluff—an unapologetically girly, unrelentingly bisexual, Regency/Victorian-ish fantasy mish-mash. It does have a dark side, though, so don’t come in expecting all sunshine and roses. Worthy of note, given the reputation of shifter stories: there will be no explicit sex in this tale. There will, however, be lots of polyamorous romance, necromancy, portal magic, capricious spirits, elemental mages, an unconventional take on shifters and a highly ordered society built around their existence.
