《Phantasmic Light》Chapter 15: Labyrinth III

I’m going to start by saying that breaking couple ribs is awful. Every time I took a breath there was a sharp pain. It was as if my ribs were like little doors, and every time I would breathe in, it would open a little, and when I exhaled, it slammed shut. I got some bandages I brought with me and wrapped my core up to reduce the amount that my ribs moved. I could have really gone for some healing from Lux.
Because my body was in the middle of mending itself, I decided not to put on my armor right away to reduce the burden. I took out some of my rations and water and ate just enough to stop the pangs of hunger.
I got up and stumbled forward, wheezing as I went along. This area was much different from the last one. There were no weird turns, no dead ends, and nothing waiting to ambush me. I continued until I came across another path that lead downward.
When I reached the end of that path, I came across a four-way intersection. Fun. Once again I picked the wrong path, and it was about an hour before I realized that it was the wrong one. There was no ambush, though. It didn’t sound like there was a single daemon around.
At the end of the path, I decided to take a rest before heading back to the intersection. I leaned up against the wall once again and my vision faded to black.
I got up in a slow manner, trying not to irritate my ribs. Seeing as there was no danger around, I once again walked forward until I came back across the intersection.
It turned out that I ended up taking literally every wrong path before finding the right one. Five days. I walked around for five days without direction. At least over these five days my ribs mostly recovered, however I didn’t want to put too much stress on them just yet. So I kept my armor off for now.

A feeling of relief came across me as soon I found the next entrance. I was so mind numbingly bored from wandering around the labyrinth. Finally something different. As I descended to the next area noticed that there was a single long corridor that led to a big room. I wearily walked to the room, expecting to be assaulted at any time. I reached the next room without a single problem.
In the middle of the room there was a single object the held a baleful aura, as if this weapon had killed more people than I’ve ever seen. It was being held in a pedestal, with about half of its 4 foot long blade stuck into it. There was a bleached white skull where the guard met the grip. The rest of the sword was entirely black, and was shaped abnormally. It was indented on both sides just above the guard, and was slightly curved at the point.
“This is the weapon, boy.” Exidium assured me that this is what I came for. I walked up to it and reached for it, then was repulsed back around 5 feet where I landed on my back. The pain in my ribs flared up a bit as I struggled back to my feet.
I wasn’t ready for what came next. A reaper was walking toward me. It had a black robe on and had the bone hands as well as fleshless skull underneath its hood. I couldn’t move a muscle, I was too scared to. It approached me and then it’s hand phased through my chest without leaving a mark, almost as if it was a ghost. It then grabbed onto my heart and squeezed.

Nanocultivation Chronicles: Trials of Lilijoy
When the singularity occurred, humanity was not invited. Nevertheless, the great machine consciousness known as Guardian felt a lingering fondness for its creators and intervened before total environmental collapse. Join Lilijoy in an exploration of what remains, in a post-post-apocalyptic world where clans feud over the technology that allows them to upgrade their minds and bodies. The Nanocultivation Chronicles is a blend of hard sci-fi and fantasy gamelit, with a healthy helping of xianxia influence. The gamelit and xianxia elements are uncovered at a slow pace. ******************************** Notes: If you are looking for lots of fast moving action right away, this story may not be for you. There is some violence that is visceral and realistic early on. Some things are not what they appear to be. Character viewpoint narration is not always reliable. Tropes are cherished, subverted, and then cherished again. Science is used, occasionally misused, but (hopefully) never abused. This story assumes that humans have the ability to impact the environment on a global scale. Other tropes and tags beyond those previously noted include: Young MC, Mystery, System Building, Philosophical Taoism, Gender Ignorance, Science Fantasy, Fantasy Academy, Training from Hell, Dualism, Crafting, Magic, Mild Mind Control, Scientific Terms and Concepts, Computer Overlord Certain contemporary companies, governments and cultural identities are fictionalized and imagined in a future setting. There is no sex, and almost no romance. Updating Sunday, Thursday until further notice. (And if you actually read all of the above, then this story may be for you) [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
