《God Blade (Hiatus)》Chapter 14: Lyana

"So even demon spread propaganda huh?" Theo asked after hearing Lyana's explanation.
Her explanation was filled with so much passion. Theo was glad. Even if only temporary, a distraction was needed when you were grieving. He was glad he could provide her with a good distraction. While it was important to face the reality of grief, acceptance will come later naturally. What important was to not lost our way before acceptance come.
From her explanation, he could also conclude that she was an absolute history geek. A side of her he could use during their conversation to obtain her interest. "I always know that what they taught you at school is not one hundred percent accurate, but I never know the extent of the lie."
"First thing first, humanity wasn't on the brink of extinction. We are losing, but it was not dire enough that some country actually still wage war against each other."
"That is... stupid."
"Of course! Everyone realize that, except some stupid government official and some nobility. Anyway, some of the soldiers, knight, and mages realized that we couldn't possibly win unless we fight together. They met secretly and with the help of some more reasonable higher ups, they formed a party of 24 people. My father and mother were part of that party."
"Ohh! That team is the one who stormed the demon king castle and killed King Racar right?"
"Yes, but it was a suicide mission. Only my father, mother, and two others returned with their lives. Even then, they were forever changed and scarred by the experience. You see the problem now?"
"No one knows who killed the Demon King because the team was made in secret."
"Exactly!" Theo smiled. "They are not a hero because no one knows what they did."
"That's, kind of tragic." Her expression turned somber for a second."You tell it like you saw the war yourself, but you don't look that much older than me."
"Well, I heard the stories from my father and mother. Killing the Demon King is not something you don't brag about every chance you get. Even the chosen one of the world, only three out of thousands of them ever killed a demon king."
"So how old are you really?"
"23."
"Wow, you're not that older than me."
"How old are yo-....... do female demon have a problem with anyone asking their age?" He asked.
"No. I'm 20, still very young. Do human have a problem?"
"Yes. Female human, lizard-kin, and beast-kin usually have a problem when someone asks about their age."
"Why though? We demon are proud with our age. I mean isn't it cool being more experienced?"
"I think the difference is the way our race age. Human reaches their peak around age 20-35....... I think. I remember my father saying something like that. After that, we get uglier and weaker the more we age. On the contrary, demons stay relatively the same once you age. You get stronger and more experienced with barely any loss as you age."
"Oh wow. Now I understand why."
Theo noticed how comfortable she became after they talked about history and about his father. Maybe he could push for a less comfortable question. "You know, something been nagging on my mind. The soldiers that I killed yesterday, or was it yesterday? Anyway, they said that you killed five people, slaughtered their livestock, and plundered their homes. What really happen?"
"I'..... don't know. Except for those five people. They.... learned about my true identity and attacked me, so I killed them. That was why we were chased in the first place. The livestock slaughtering and home plundering were not our doing."
"Someone else's or some monster used the opportunity it seemed." There was another question nagging on his mind. "I think this is time for the real question. How can you come this far to the mainland? How can you move past the Tesla Line? If other demons can do the same I..... war could happen again."
"I don't think others can do it. We came here by accident, we used a teleportation magic, but it went awry during the process."
"Wait isn't it impossible to-"
"Yes, it should be impossible to teleport in and out of the demon realm because of the purple miasma. However, at that time we were on the edge of the demon realm where the miasma wasn't as dense. The miasma that day was also strangely very thin, but in the end, we still messed up."
"Why teleport out? to a place where the inhabitant will kill you the moment they see you?"
"Escape." She answered quickly. She was hesitant to continue answering for some reason, but he had to know. If something bad happened in the demon realm that could cause a war with the outside world, he has to know it.
"Escape from what?"
"Other faction." Again, she was hesitant to give him a more concrete answer and instead chose a vague answer.

"Other faction?" He pushed for more answer. He was confident that she was comfortable enough with him. Comfortable enough to share some of the more unpleasant things.
She curled up her body and buried her mouth in the embrace of her own arm. "The previous demon king was a very powerful demon. His retainers loyalty to him was without question. He was a perfect king and a perfect leader for the demons, but he had one flaw." She paused. "He had many children.... many daughters to be exact, but he never chose one to be his heir. Everyone always thought that the perfect heir was his eldest daughter. Her power, beauty, wisdom, knowledge, and leadership power was..... second to none. Every girl and woman envied her. She had the potential to be even better than her own father. But one day, one of his daughter that was exiled, his only daughter that he ever exiled, returned to the demon castle."
"He chose her as the heir, and no one accepted it." Theo added after she finished speaking.
"Yes." She seemed pleasantly surprised that Theo knew her story.
"I've read stories like that a few times. Never thought it would happen in real life."
"This created a discord and chaos in the rank of the demon lords. What more unacceptable is, his eldest daughter, the one everyone wanted to be his successor, accepted her father decision without even a complaint."
"So the demon lord created faction between them?"
"Not at first. No one dared to defy the demon king in the open. After the war, however, the demon king died but the exiled daughter hasn't yet get accustomed to her new power. She was basically a kid with too much power she couldn't control. This was a perfect opportunity for the other to rebel and usurp the throne. There's a civil war raging between five factions in the demon realm now."
"And what faction are you?"
"None. Me and my sister want to live peacefully, but the civil war made it impossible for us. The fate of young girls during an unrest is.... uncertain. We're the main target for slavery and rape. I mean, even without the civil war, demon raped and enslaved each other, but with the civil war it becomes even worse."
"And you think the human realm is a good option? That's kind of strange."
"I told you our teleportation was botched." She answered with irritation in her voice.
Theo raised both of his hand. "Okay-okay. Calm down now. Where were you planning to teleport originally?"
"We have no plan. We thought that anywhere is fine other than the demon realm. I guess we were wrong."
"Do you have any plan right now, like where do you want to go or is there someone you know somewhere. Family maybe?"
"No. Well, I still have another sister. Not related by blood, but still, a sister. She is in deep shit, however, and I don't think I can meet her anytime soon nor can she help me even if we met."
Theo wanted to ask her about her other sister, but it seemed unpleasant to her. He already asked a few unpleasant question, it would be bad to push his luck any further. "So you have no plan?"
"No."
"Why don't you come with me on my adventure? I can protect you, to some extent, and with some disguising magic, there shouldn't be any problem whatsoever. We could, I don't know, explore the continent maybe. Learn some history of the world along the way."
While it might seem rushed asking her so early, it was a calculated question. Theo had already known quite a lot of thing about her. She was alone, trapped in a realm where most of its inhabitant wanted to kill her for no reason. He knew she was a history enthusiast and she was quite excited about exploring and discovering new places. He could give her about everything that she needed and wanted. He could give her protection from the human, he could guide her through the land, and he knows quite a lot about history and exploration. Her not having a plan was a great boost to his confidence that she will accept the offer.
Lyana looked at him. She opened her mouth but closed it again a second later. She looked at the ground, thinking, pondering, considering his offer.
"I understand it's not an easy thing to answer. We've only known each other for.... a day or two at most" Theo moved his body and lied down on the ground. He positioned himself as comfortable as he could without hurting his body." Take your time, don't have to answer it today. Or tomorrow for that matter." He yawned and rolled his body so that he was facing away from her. While he was somewhat healed on the outside, most of his injury was internal. He still needed a lot of rest before his body recovers fully.

I Was Reincarnated as Someone's Mana??
My name is Magnus Karlsson, and by a series of rather unfortunate events that I had absolutely no say in, I was killed and reincarnated. In this story, you will follow Magnus as he tries his very best to survive in a world that's been thrown into chaos, together with the man whose mana he is, Allan Woodsworth. Well, not a man per se, more of a little boy who has no idea what the fuck is going on, but, you know... I'm sure it'll be fine. Nothing bad will happen to the pair. Nope. No abandoned kids here. Anyhow. The world that Magnus has been thrown into is one perversed by the will of a great mage who, three thousand years ago, decided that it would be a great idea to infuse all the people of the earth with so-called "orbs". These magical crystals allow their handler to control and generate mana, which they can then use to become mages. Most barely use them, since the mana cost of doing such a little thing as a fireball spell is absolutely ridiculous. Said mage, Theodore Cromwell, Magnus used his resources to infuse not only humans with orbs, but animals as well, giving rise to what the mage community calls "horrid perversions of nature", but what the common folk calls "monsters". Orbs can be used for much, and it is through orbs that people keep track on their level of mana and such, and destroying the orb of a monster is A, the only way to kill it and B, a good way to absorb extra mana and raise ones level. It is such an orb that Magnus has been tranformed into. ------ To those that care, I'm very sorry about the title, it's just that, well, it's very good to be blunt about isekais like this since people such as myself search precisely for this, so having super-serious names like "The Magnus of the World of Orbs" would turn people wanting a simple and fun isekai off. I hope you give this story a fair chance! ------ Edit: IWRASM now has a deviantart page!!! https://www.deviantart.com/thefunartcorner
