《God Blade (Hiatus)》Chapter 50: Blood of Demon

Theo returned to his tent on the edges of the camp. On the opposite side of where the mages camp to reduce the chance of them discovering Lyana's true identity. When he returned, he was greeted by an excited Vivi, who threw herself at him, a bored Lyana who sat on her bed with a stack of books on the table next to her, and a missing Ed.
"Where's Ed?" He asked Vivi as he hugged her. Vivi buried her face in his chest, effectively ignoring him. He turned to ask Lyana.
"He takes a walk around the encampment because you take too long to return. What the hell are you doing, Chasing some girls?"
"Well, that's not entirely wrong." He answered. "Anyway, once Ed returns we're going to meet with Sara. The High Priestess that I mentioned before."
Vivi pulled her head back in surprise. "I don't want to meet that devil, she's scary. I rather sit here alone."
"Sorry Vivi, but we have to." Vivi let go of him, crossed her arm, and pouted before returning to her bed in a bad mood. Theo chuckled, seeing her childish reaction.
Lyana sighed. Her eyes wandered around and she looked away from him. "Promise me...you'll be next to me."
"I promise. I won't let her do anything more than talk to you."
Lyana glared at him. "You said it like you have the power to decide that. When in fact, you don't have that power over this... Priestess."
Theo walked next to her and put his hand on her shoulder. "I'll protect you. I promise."
Ed suddenly entered the tent with a surprised and confused face."Oh. Did I... miss something?"
-----
Sara sat on a chair next to a table in her tent. Theo stood with Vivi and Ed beside him. Lyana stood behind him since there was no other chair. Surprisingly, there was no guard, priest or mage inside or outside her tent. The only resemblance of guards were some Church's Guards located in other tents.
"Welcome to my humble abode." Sara greeted them. Her gaze was directed at Lyana, who shivered behind Theo. Theo moved his body so that it covered most of Lyana.
"Oh come fucking on Theo. I just want to see your new adorable girlfriend." She said it with full of certainty, but her devilish grin made it unconvincing.
"Enough Sara. Get to the point." Said Theo.
Sara lowered her eyebrows "Okay, I want to speak to your demon girl. Come forward, girl." He turned his head to look at Lyana behind him. She was still shivering and trembling, with one hand clinging to his arm. While he understood why Lyana would be afraid of Sara, he didn't understand why she was scared of her to that degree.

"Lyana?"
She opened her trembling jaw. "I-I-I-"
"You don't have to force yourself." He said.
"I'm not asking. You have no choices in this matter." Sara interjected with a cold voice.
Lyana's gaze moved to Theo. There was still fear in her eyes, but there was also an adamant will saying that she will do it. "D-don't you dare to move Theo."
"Okay. Can you undo your disguise?" Sara asked. Lyana nodded slowly and did what she was told. Two horns appeared from her temple, both pointed upward. Sara seemed surprised that Lyana didn't transform into a hideous monster."Hmm, a humanoid demon, interesting. Were you born a demon or were you made a demon?"
"B-Born."
"Why did you come to the human realm?"
Lyana then told everything to Sara. How and why she came outside the demon realm, about the civil war raging in the demon realm, how she met Theo, and how Theo convinced her to follow him. "So what faction are you from?" Sara asked.
"I fled from the demon realm because I don't support any faction." After talking to Sara a few times, she appeared to be more relaxed, still afraid, but better than before. Her hand didn't clench Theo's arm as tight as before. At least it didn't feel like she was about to rip his arm off.
"Well, that's about it." Sara said with a smirk.. "Good to know you Lyana." She looked at the clock. "Well, Theo, don't forget about the council tonight. You all can leave."
Without any question, Lyana, Vivi, and Ed took a step towards the exit. The moment they got out of the tent, the air seemed lighter, like a great weight had been lifted off their shoulder. Sweat broke out from the three of them, it was a sweat of relief.
Theo, who was still inside the tent nodded his head. "Something else to say?" Sara asked after seeing Theo still there.
"When you said you know my women's favorite food. How do you know it?" Theo asked.
Theo knew that Sara has a personal information network. One so extensive and so large that it would put even the best spymaster and information broker to shame, and her reach wasn't limited to only the Continent. That was why she knew almost anything about anyone. But even with such an extensive network, it was hard to know a person's favorite food unless Sara assigned a spy to specifically follow his women around.
"I don't, that was a fucking bluff."
"What?!" Theo yelled.
"You're choking me, Theo. I almost suffocated, what do you expect me to do?" She asked. "I do know some, but not all of theirs. Why the fuck does it matter now?"

"Motherfucker...... No, it doesn't matter now." Theo turned and walked out.
"May the blessing of Ketu be with you, Theo." Her voice had returned to its dignified and angelic version.
When Theo stepped outside, Ed, Vivi, and Lyana were waiting for him. Their fear and anxiousness were evident in their eyes. Like before, he didn't understand why they were so afraid of her. "Sorry for bringing you all there. But what is with the overreaction?"
"OVERREACTION?!" They yelled at the same time.
"It's you who's strange Theo." Lyana said. "H-how can you stay calm in there?! How can you not feel anything at all?" Lyana pointed her trembling finger at Sara's tent" There's...There's something very sinister about her...I..I..I can't even begin to describe it. Something is very wrong about her, Theo."
"Really?" Theo asked. Ed and Vivi nodded their head in agreement to Lyana. "I'm sorry."
"Let's just get away from here." Lyana walked away, returning to their tent.
Vivi followed her, then Ed, then Theo. Theo took one last look of Sara's tent before leaving. He wondered about what Lyana said. Was there something malicious and sinister about Sara more than she already was?
"Hey, Theo." Ed whispered when they were already quite far away from Sara's tent. "What did Sara mean when she asked whether Lyana was born or made a Demon? Can Demon be made?"
Theo looked at Ed. "Short answer, yes. But you have to know about the social structure of Demon society before I can explain more in detail."
Ed looked around. "We still have time." Ed looked again at Theo. His curiosity washed away all the fear he felt before.
Demon's and monster's social structure and culture were a taboo subject for most scholars, as most people saw Demon and monster as cultureless savages no different than animals. It was rare to find a book that touched that subject. Even if there was a book that touched that subject, it would be written by Adventurers. And most of the time it was mostly just speculation. Theo, however, was more knowledgeable about monsters and demons than most.
Theo crossed his arms. "Demons, like Elementals, have a King standing on top of their social structure. There can only be one King. Under the King, there are the Lords. In the case of Demon, Demon Lords. There is a limit to how many Lords there are. For example, There can only be 30 Demon Lords at the same time. For Fire Lord, there can only be four at the same time. Under the Lords are Apostles, then under them are normal Demons."
"O..kay. What does that have to do with making a Demon?"
"Making a Demon and becoming a Demon is easy....in theory. You just have to inject the blood of an Apostle into your bloodstream and let it circulate through your entire body and that's it."
"What, that's it?"
"If the blood you injected is that of Demon Lords, then you become an Apostle. If it's the blood of the Demon King and the number of Demon Lords is fewer than 30, then you become a Demon Lord. If the number is already 30, you become an Apostle."
Ed stopped and stood in front of Theo "Wait wait wait! If that's the case, then why didn't Apostle or Demon Lords or the Demon King just mass produce demon? I mean, they can force their enemy to become a Demon if that's the case."
"There's a tradeoff. You need to sacrifice your own EXP to make a new Demon. The stronger the person or the animal that you want to transform is, the more EXP you need, maybe even sacrificing a dozen of your own levels. So they only make a new Demon when they are absolutely sure about it."
"Ohh.....wait... So you can make a Demon Lord weak by stealing his blood, then injecting it into someone or something?"
Theo looked at Ed and raised his brows. "In theory, yes. Though 'stealing' a Demon Lord's blood is impossible in practice. An Apostle is easier, but even the average Apostle is extremely strong."
After talking to Ed about the blood of Demon Lord, Theo remembered about Vex and her desperate quest to increase her Level Cap. Becoming a Demon not only made a person's lifespan unlimited, it also doubled the original Level Cap, with the price of reduced empathy and increased aggression. Though as desperate as Vex was, there was no way she wanted to be a Demon....... Or at least that was what Theo thought. Leveling up was like taking a drug. The sudden increase of strength, agility, intelligence, and the overall increase of power was an unforgettable feeling for most people.
