《The Apocalypse Show - Dungeon Core》Chapter 3

I considered the two dead goblins and decided I really needed to figure something else out. I summoned my first goblin. After he ran up I selected my create boss power and used it on the goblin. I breathed a sigh of relief as its attributes doubled. I could actually see muscles bulk up and the goblin even grew half a foot taller. It still looked weaker than an average human but it was definitely an improvement. I even thought I could see a tiny bit more intelligence in its eyes.
“Thank you master. What your orders now?” The goblin asked. “Go supervise the rest of the goblins mining. Make sure that they don’t get distracted. Also let me know if you think the ceiling is about to cave in.” I said. The goblin seemed confused when I used the words supervise and cave in. “You goblin boss now. Go make sure other goblins dig. Make sure cave not fall on goblins.” I said instead. The goblin boss nodded enthusiastically and then ran off.
I absorbed the equipment from the goblins that had fallen into the pit trap. Then I created another goblin and equipped it with the armor and spear again. This time I carefully ordered it around the traps. Somehow it made it safely to the dungeon entrance. When I tried to order it outside the cave a popup appeared.
Dungeon spawned monsters that leave a dungeon will no longer be bound to the dungeon. Are you sure you want to order your monster to leave your dungeon.
Well that was out. I decided I’d just have the goblin guard while I looked over the rest of the information available. At the current rate it looked like I’d reach full mana in about two thirds of a day. Which meant I couldn’t create another goblin for at least another hour.
My attention was drawn to the indicator flashing in the corner of my view. It had been flashing for quite some time now. I clicked on it and smiled at all the rewards I had received.

I started with ten points. Then I spent five on equipment. After viewing the notices I had gained sixteen points bringing me up to twenty one points. It also solved the mystery of how I got more points. I had to get more views and ratings. I went to the viewership tab to see if I could get some more detail.

That was all very interesting information. It also confirmed everything that the message this morning had said this was all part of some type of show. If the message was to be believed then everyone on Earth was now in a weird reality TV show being watched by aliens.
For nearly an hour I looked over all the information I could find in the menu. I had even made a bit of a plan for what to do with my talents and attribute points along with what I wanted to save up for in the store. Of course there were a lot of things I didn’t know yet.

My attention was suddenly drawn to the goblin at the entrance of my cave. A scrawny coyote stepped into the green light. I breathed a sigh of relief that it wasn’t a wolf. Non-rabid coyotes didn’t generally attack adult humans. Instead they were a danger for pets and other small creatures.
Unfortunately the coyote seemed to think that my goblin counted as a small creature. I still wasn’t that concerned, after all the goblin had a spear and armor. I realized I was over confident when the coyote lunged for the goblin.
Apparently goblins weren’t just less intelligent than the average human. They were also pathetically weak and their reaction times were significantly worse. The goblin got in one stab before the coyote latched onto its leg and pulled it off its feet. The fight only lasted for a couple seconds after that.
I concentrated for a second and summoned all the goblins that had been digging. I produced five more spears for them.
“An animal has attacked our home. The boss will take a spear and take care of it. The rest of you will take spears and defend yourselves in case he fails.” I said. The four normal goblins seemed a bit confused, but the boss goblin quickly got them organized.
“Watch out for the traps.” I ordered my boss goblin. It nodded and then carefully moved around the pitfalls. Apparently that double attribute score was useful. Unfortunately it also probably meant that most enemies wouldn’t be tricked by the pits. Not surprising considering I had no idea how to hide something like a pit in the middle of the floor.
The goblin boss found the coyote ravenously feasting on the dead goblin. The coyote looked up and growled. The boss moved forward quickly and stabbed the coyote with the spear. It was an awkward thrust but managed to injure the coyote.
Unfortunately the coyote was apparently starving and wasn’t about to give up its meal. It attacked my goblin boss. My goblin boss took a couple bites but eventually got the upper hand and managed to drive its spear into something vital. The coyote twitched for a bit and finally died.
The goblin boss pulled the equipment off the dead goblin and then haphazardly dragged the dead coyote into the cave. There were a couple close calls but somehow he managed to avoid falling into one of the traps.
The other goblins all cheered when they saw the dead coyote. The goblin boss struck a heroic pose with one foot on top of his dead foe and the bloody spear held up in the air. Or at least it was heroic for a goblin. “I kill bad monster. Big fight. You all call me Chief Sharpstick now.” The other goblins all cheered in agreement. “Now we eat and celebrate.” The self-proclaimed goblin chief announced.
The goblins teared into the coyote. If I had a body I would have been throwing up as they devoured the meat raw. “Sharpstick, don’t you cook your meat?” I finally managed to ask. Chief Sharpstick looked up from his meal. “No fire. We hungry.” Then he went back to eating.
Okay, add figuring out how to make a fire for my goblins to my list of things to do. Thinking about it I also needed to figure out how to feed my goblins. I probably couldn’t rely on random animals wandering into the cave.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
