《Dimensional Paradise》Chapter 19 – Interlude: The invasion of Lars island

Lars island is a small rocky island less than 0.4 km long which lies in the South Atlantic Ocean.
Normally, nobody would care for such small uninhabited island. But from two months ago, the situation changed.
Satellites belonging to different countries detected an enormous spike in the levels of radiation of the region. Because of it, numerous countries showed interest in the cause of the strange phenomena.
Despite the island being officially part of the Bouvet islands and dependent on the kingdom of Norway, when the radiation activity intensified even more, the Norway government found hard to stop other countries from interfering.
However, things were worse than everybody thought.
During two months, more and more radiation began to accumulate in the small island, making many scientific teams wonder about its origin. And finally, two weeks ago, the radiation stopped increasing.
Then, in the middle of the island, a kind of portal as the ones from sci-fi movies appeared.
The appearance of the portal raised the alertness of every country. Immediately, armed fleets carrying different flags were ordered to move near the island and await orders. The nervousness coming from the world’s governments reached a never seen peak. Even some countries that normally don’t see each other to the eye chose to ignore their differences temporally.
And today, finally, the wait ended.
The radiation levels coming from the portal increased exponentially and sparks filled the 0.4 kilometers of land.
Then, a hand appeared.
Followed by a person.
And behind him, more people together with strange vehicles appeared.
It was not right call them humans, because their skin was light blue. Though their appearance was humanoid, they were a completely different species; coming from a different dimension to accomplish a mission.
Then, the first man that appeared, spoke.
“Humans!”
His voice reached to every ship and person in the surroundings 200 kilometers. It was clear, and strangely, every person was able to understand it in their native language.

Then, the man raised his hand.
But before he could continue speaking, the fleets reacted.
The blue-skinned people and their vehicles were declared immediately as a hostile force, and the fleets were ordered to fire.
After all, earth’s history shows that when two different civilizations meet each other for the first time, the stronger try to conquer the weaker.
It was history, and history is normally bound to repeat.
And if earth's humans are not as strong as the enemy, at least they will have the advantage of attacking first.
But contrary to their expectations, their weapons were useless.
From the man’s hand, a force field extended; stopping every projectile fired to the island, and at the same time, destroying each weapon inside the fleets.
Then, his voice was heard again.
“Hear me, humans, because I bring the United Dimensions’ orders.
“I, Kdon Srive, a proud Level 6 from the Dran race, had been chosen as the temporary administrator of this planet during the next ten years or until this planet produces a level 6.
“Following the general procedure, the surrounding territory will be designed as part of the United Dimensions, and every hostile force must retreat or face the consequences.
“From today onwards, planet earth is officially part of the United Dimensional Planes.”
With these words, the firsts interdimensional lifeform arrived on earth.
Unfortunately, this information was not made public until much later.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
