《Dimensional Paradise》Chapter 101 – Patient Zero (2)

“ROAARRRRRRR!!!”
The roar of the patient zero spread to the surroundings as a shockwave, forcing the bodyguard, the college girl, and the stubble guy to step backward. Only Aleen and Aya endured the roar without retreating.
The roar wasn’t a skill, but despite it, it filled the group with fear. Actually, only Aya and Lily managed to perceive the brief combat between Aleen and the level-three zombie; the other three only felt a gust of wind and then, they saw the level-three zombie injured.
The stubble guy and the college girl sighed in relief when they saw the patient zero injured. They were frightened by the patient zero’s apparition, but when it was injured in its clash against Aleen, they mistakenly thought that it wasn’t so dangerous.
However, the bodyguard realized that things were not so simple.
He had seen Aleen use its skill twice before it, and each time, he had killed one zombie at least; but this time, though the zombie was injured, it wasn't dead.
Besides, he could see that despite the zombie's injuries, Aleen and Aya’s expressions were grave.
At that moment, Aya shouted.
“Look out!”
The bodyguard followed Aya’s gaze and saw a frightening scene. The arm of the zombie that had been cut, was running towards them!
His face paled immediately. He wielded the baton he was holding and tried to crush it, but the hand endured the attack easily and jumped towards his face.
Frightened, the man tried to retreat to avoid it, but the hand was faster than he thought. It flew towards its face and extended its claw-like nails to pierce his eyes.
At that moment, Lily jumped from below Aya’s leg. She followed Aya’s orders and extended her claws to cut the arm into two, but it twisted strangely in the air and used its claw-like nails to receive the attack.

The severed arm flew away due to the impact, but it suffered only a slight injury.
Aleen had noticed the arm, but he could not afford to be distracted now. He had the feeling that if he moves his gaze away, the zombie will jump and crush his head in an instant.
On the other hand, he was surprised that the arm could do something like that.
He and the zombie continued observing each other. Aleen thought that the patient zero was waiting for an opportunity to attack, but after a few seconds, he noticed that something was wrong.
The zombie’s wounds… They seemed smaller than before.
“Damnit, it can regenerate its wounds!” Aleen shouted while cursing his luck in his mind. Now, he had to take the initiative to attack.
After all, if the zombie regenerates completely, then the situation will become irreversible.
“Aya, support me! The rest of you, take care of the arm!”
The group nodded briefly and Aleen accelerated towards the zombie. At the same time, Aya ordered Lily to attack it and followed after her.
The level-three zombie growled in rage and charged towards them. As a bloodthirsty creature, it didn’t feel fear despite being injured by Aleen before. Instead, its desire for blood became greater and stronger.
With two steps, it appeared before Aleen. Aleen struggled to keep with its speed, and barely managed to block the attack.
Its speed was at least twice as fast as Aleen despite being injured on its right leg, and its strength was also a few times higher. Despite only having one arm, it forced Aleen to retreat a few steps back with its attack.
But before it could follow up with the next attack, Lily jumped from the right and tried to cut its neck. Unfortunately, it used its remaining arm to swat Lily away. Aya tried to stab it with her spear at that moment, but it avoided her attack easily.

Fortunately, though, they bought enough time for Aleen to recover.
Without hesitation, he activated Sharp Sword and slashed towards the zombie’s neck, but it moved its head back and counterattacked with a swing of its right arm; Aleen could only use his armguard to block the attack, but the strength of the blow knocked him a few meters away.
Meanwhile, the remaining three members were facing the arm that Aleen cut. It was moving quickly and jumping around like an animal, trying to use its nails to stab them. But the bodyguard and the stubble guy were using their weapons to hit it away.
Unfortunately, no matter how they hit the arm, it remained uninjured.
The movements of the arm were erratic, and sometimes it attacked the wrong place, but it did not make the situation any easier. Besides, because the bodyguard had to pay attention to the college girl’s safety, he could only defend passively.
At that moment, the arm jumped again and tried to stab the bodyguard leg, but he reacted quickly and used the baton to throw it away.
However, he ended throwing the arm towards the stubble guy.
The stubble guy swung his bat-like weapon to try to repel the arm, but it grabbed the weapon and used it to jump towards his chest.
Frightened, the stubble guy waved the bat-like weapon crazily, but it failed to hit the arm.
Then, the arm extended its claw-like nails and pierced its right shoulder.
“Arghhh!” The stubble guy screamed in pain.

World Servers - Dawn
The year is 2143, and much of the world’s population has been digitized for decades. Different servers are configured for different purposes. Some servers are pure gaming worlds. Others are offshoots of fringe political experimentation or regimes. Still others are based around ethnic or nationalist sentiment. Some replicate past times or past eras. And still others have been designed as totally imaginary locations created out of the dreams of programmers and the Artificial Intelligences that have been used to build and drive them. The gaming guild I Like Big Booty is a loosely affiliated group of friends and avid players. Theirs is an international guild which spans multiple servers, mostly running raids, ganking other players in PVP, and generally trying to build up the funds to purchase their own home world server. On one of the most populous servers – designed to resemble 20th century earth – a small raid team running a boring and routine run in Washington DC, comes across something that might change the fate of Virtual Reality across the solar system. Note: Per request, the title has been changed, though I might change it again when if I come up with something a little better.
