《Far Behind》Invasion 79 -

Left, right, ahead, behind and above, Quin was surrounded by Shriekers in all possible directions, yet there was no fear or worry in his eyes. He was moving lightning fast, delivering punches and kicks to his enemies.
Quin could be compared to a killing machine, as wherever he went, only the lifeless bodies of the Shriekers were left behind. Even though they had a great numerical advantage on him, the strongest one of them had only the strength of the second level of the Qi Culmination sub-stage, and so he could easily overpower them. He only needed to punch a single time to completely destroy his opponent.
Naturally, it did not mean that he could evade every attack the enemy made, and wasn’t left unscathed. Truthfully, the majority of the injuries he received was due to the simple fact that he did not care about them. It was not out of arrogance or ignorance, but from his experience and observation.
He was aware of the strength of these attacks and had also personally experienced them during his previous fights, thus knew that they meant no real danger to him.
Although the Shriekers’ tongues were rather strong and sharp, they could only leave behind surface injuries on him. Furthermore, they healed and vanished in just a matter of moments. True, his energy reserves were also decreasing bit by bit, but it was not something significant. In addition, the most dominant wild energy in the city was the same healing type that the lake emitted. In spite of being exponentially less intensive compared to what you could feel just right next to the lake, it was still there, and Quin’s intake of it had become a lot more efficient during the previous months.
All in all, it meant that he was under no kind of danger, and even if he had to face a group of Shriekers with a lot more members, in the end he would emerge victorious.

Phew, now just a few more is left! He had long lost count of his exact body count, and only knew that there were just a couple of Shriekers remaining, while he was standing there soaked in their blood.
At first, the silver-haired pair were rather occupied with defending themselves, but soon the Shriekers were only concentrating on the bigger threat, namely Quin. This left them without any need to fight and seeing Quin’s unbelievable strength they were standing in one place, clearly shocked and confused.
“Alright, that was the last one of these abominations!,” Quin exclaimed happily. “Are you guys alright? We’ve got a healer back in the wagon.”
They ran to him suddenly, without answering and lifted their hands. Their palms were open and shining with a silver light and they started to move them parallel to his body right away.
Quin thought that they were about to attack him for a moment, but quickly realized that it was not their intention and lowered his guard. As their palms ran across his body, just a couple of centimeters away from actually touching him, he felt a fairly comfortable warm feeling from them.
“Y-You aren’t injured?” the silver-haired man asked with a somewhat confused look, while the woman was standing there with an expressionless face.
“I told you that you don’t have to worry about it,” he said warmly. He found them rather strange, but just at the start of the fight they shielded him despite it injuring them in the process, and then at the end the first thing they did was trying to heal him, so they left quite a good impression of him. “We really don’t have time, so long story short, I’m a body cultivator and so unsurprisingly the capabilities of my body is, well, really good,” he explained with a proud smile and then continued without giving them any chance to speak. “So, you see the wagon behind right? We’re heading to the town center to help the others in repelling the Shriekers, so if you want you can tag along.”

The pair looked at each other for a moment and then turning back to Quin both of them nodded.
“Eizrlkr'n,” the man said nodding and then pointed to the woman. “Sian'rl.” She nodded as well.
“Quin,” he also introduced himself. “I really don’t mean to be rude, but there’s no way I’ll be able to pronounce your names, so sorry about that in advance. Anyways, so are joining us?”
They simply nodded in answer.
“Alright, then I’ll be back shortly with the wagon,” he said and quickly headed to the others.
They were not too far so it also did not take long for him to pull the wagon to the newcomers.
“These two had been fighting the Shriekers when I got here and were doing quite a good job. Fortunately, they decided to join us and they are called Eizr--” he said, but got stuck at the middle of the name. “Well, I think it’s better if they say it.”
They introduced themselves again and Quin was wondering how someone could say words like that so easily.
“How’s your speed?” Quin asked the couple. “You looked quite strong, probably somewhere in the end of the second level of Qi Culmination, if I had to guess, but I couldn’t see your speed. Most people in the wagon are below that and none of them have any elements with a good speed, so the wagon’s already fairly full. So, I think that if you’re fast enough and still have qi reserves you could follow along on foot.”
Quin was trying to say it as politely as he could, as it was indeed the truth. Since the last time another batch of people joined their group, he was seriously worried that the wagon would fall apart, but he did not want to leave anyone behind.
“More fast than air and lots of reserve, no worry,” the man answered, agreeing to Quin’s idea.
He’s speaking a bit strangely, guess they really are not from Ade Lai, he thought. Well, if their speed is better than someone with the air element they’ll be able to keep up, probably. Still, I wonder what kind of element they’ve got... Something that can heal and is also very fast? I don’t think I’ve heard of anything like that, and especially not something that shines like that!
“Alright, then let’s go!” Quin said and with that they set off.
They were advancing fairly quickly for some time thanks to the silver-haired pair joining them. Although Quin could easily overpower any group of Shriekers, these two’s strength was nothing to joke about. While Quin took on the main body of the group, they were killing off the stray ones.
Despite their diligence, their speed was greatly decreased as they neared the town center, only being about two hundred meters away from it. The reason was none other than how by that point there was virtually no space between the various groups of Shriekers, and they created one, big enormous group that reached the town center. It meant that now the entire group, or at least the ones that were still capable, were fighting. Quin was at the vanguard with the two newcomers, while the others fought forming a circle around the carriage.
Quin quickly jumped up to check out the situation ahead of him, but it only made his worry increase. Damn, the entire area is swarmed by them and we even have to watch out to not get ambushed from behind! Then as he turned his gaze around, he was filled complete shock. What the heck are those things?!

Anti-Hero: Journey of Fear
There is a story where the hero makes friends, completes quests, and saves the world. This is NOT that story. In the VR world of Fate: Experience Acute Realism, the main character cuts his way through both the players and NPCs alike. This story takes a close look at how a true full immersion VR would be played. The setting is an open VR world where the players struggle to survive with a lack of knowledge and the NPCs panic in regards to the Travelers invading their world. The anti-hero of this story is cold and calculating. Sparing no one from his reign of terror he gives into occasional bouts of kindness before he is forced back on the path of blood and tears. For where there is a hero who seeks to bring people together to help the world move forward, there is an anti-hero who brings people together to seize the world for himself. WARNING: This story contains extreme violence, in every single chapter. This story contains references to sex, but no explicit scenes. This story has light to mild swearing. My chapters normally range from 4,000 to 5,000 words. This story does not contain happy endings, middles, or even beginnings.

Contact Through Voided Lenses
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Edit: Fixed some inaccuracies in the synopsis. The void is a vast unexplored ocean filled with various wonders and dangers all waiting to be explored by those brave enough to travel and record. Many souls do find themselves brave enough to face the vast distances, the various risks to personal safety and do the hundreds of task required on a craft. However, at times the void itself can be boring with absolutely nothing to do but as time pass and more and better technology is reached, things got better. The various trips got faster, communications became faster than light and you can be home to see your loved ones after only months now. Through the various planets whether rocky or gaseous, the various stars whether small or giant, the various systems both eerily similar or completely alien. As part of an expeditionary scientific exploratory survey craft, one could see that the void offers no reprieve from all the discoveries and wonders. At times, it can feel empty and silent where no soul can hear you scream and at others it can be overwhelming with sudden phenomenon that can overwhelm the brightest of minds. The void itself is a truly fascinating ocean where one must chart the various islands or drown in its deadly tidal waves. But the question still remained no matter how you try to hide it in of itself… is there truly other intelligent life out there? Are we alone in this ocean? Those very questions still haunt the minds of those on the crafts themselves as they brace for every jump ready for the unknown and the known. Many would try to explain that yes there is other intelligent life out there whilst other still say no after 2 centuries of continuous flight out of the home system. Still, those are questions that bury deep in the minds of the crew and those at home as the voidcraft jumps to a system with a single yellow star orbited by 8 other planets with one crowning blue jewel being the 3rd closest with its 5 oceans and 7 continents, a planet called Dirt which is inhabited by a primitive species called Humanity. Hello, author here and this is my newest dive into writing particularly for the Writathon currently in progress being my first one. I hope you give me story a try but in case you still want more information on what you’re getting into, below are some pointers about the story itself. First Contact: CTVL is a story about a first contact scenario between an advanced alien civilization and a slightly more advanced modern day humanity on their planet called Dirt. Characters: The story will take place mainly on the perspective of the alien visitors themselves though there will be human POV characters who will show how the rest of humanity react through media and forums. Action: It won’t be an actual alien invasion but you have to see for yourself how well first contact went. Sci-Fi: I will be very forward here, I WILL bend the rules of physics in order to add in parts of the plot and there WILL be parts that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Theme: It will be a brooding story talking about the futility of pe… Just kidding, it’s mostly wholesome stuff to be honest here. Alien: The aliens themselves will… actually why should I tell you, you have to go and read it to find out what the aliens are though I will draw a few things here and there to aid in the process. Extra tidbit: If you are a grammar nazi or someone who really wants a realistic scifi story... this story is probably not for you at all. Anyways, that’s pretty much all I can say before I spoil something major of the plot itself, the story is slice of life so make sure that type of story is what you like because I am terrible with anything else as I found out, anyways, have a good time everyone and good luck to the other Writathon participants.
