Volume 1 berserk chapter 3 – plan in action
As I approached the stairs to the rampart a soldier blocked my way. This time unlike before I had no advantage. I lost in both strength and skill. Knowing this I used the one thing I had to my advantage. I charged strait at the soldier. Seeing my charge he snickered and raised his sword to stab me through. picking up on this I pushed my body to its limits.
when his sword was thrust at my chest I raised my free hand. Pushing my hand forward his sword cut strait through my palm. Seizing my chance I wretched my impaled hand to the side. Gritting through the pain I lifted my sword and once again brought it down onto the enemy's head.
Leaving behind the dead body I scaled the stairs. As I stood on the rampart I scanned through the crowd of mercenaries. Finding my target I was once again astonished. At the forefront of the army fighting 3 captains singlehandedly was Guts. Seeing that the mercenaries around him were being pushed back It was obvious that very soon he would be surrounded. If that happened I was sure I would be erased by Ourous.
Thinking quickly I ran through my options. I knew I couldn’t reach him in time, counting that out a ranged attack was my only option. Looking for a ranged weapon I saw my salvation. The crossbows on the rampart were still here. Running over to one I tried to quickly figure out its controls. Realising I didn’t have the time I grabbed the neck of the crossbow and pushed. After manoeuvring it into position I cut the rope holding the arrow in position. The arrow soared across the battlefield and through several of the soldier plus one of the captains surrounding Guts.

Seeing this the mercenaries were once again emboldened. Coining on several of the backmost mercenaries came to man the crossbows. Leaving this to the more capable mercenaries, I descended from the rampart towards the frontlines. As I ran to assist Guts several large explosions caught my attention. It seems like the plan was moving along nicely. The plan was very simple. First I was to locate Guts, then I was to ensure he survived.
While I was doing this my teammate would go around the enemy and place explosives in the building either side of them. These were both risky as it was possible that either I couldn’t protect Guts or that my teammate couldn’t sneak into the buildings. But in the end these 2 gambits paid off. Now the plan was in its final stage. I was to fight Bazuso alongside Guts.
when I reached the frontline I saw the mass of carnage caused by the explosions. Of the 60ish people originally here only 7 remained. 4 captains 2 commanders and Bazuso. Currently Guts was fighting the 4 captains while the mercenaries tried to fight the commanders. It was obvious that no matter how many attacked they couldn’t get past the commanders. Sadly the allure of Bazuso's bounty was too great.
Moving forward I once again used stealth to fight. Using Guts attacks to draw the captains attention I snuck around them. As the fight began to favour the captains I made my move. Drawing close behind a captain I slid my sword into the back of his head. Before he hit the ground I pounced onto another captain. This one was more prepared and lifted his sword to meet my downward strike. The full weight of my blow pushed him back a few steps.
Me: ill take this one, you deal with those 2.

Having said this to Guts I once again began to attack my enemy. As we exchanged blow after blow my lack of skill became increasingly apparent. Before I lost the initiative I began to rain a flurry of blows down, each stronger than the last. seeing my opponent set in to a rhythm waiting for me to tire I changed my style. Raising my leg I kicked him full on in the gut. when he keeled over I once again brought my sword down, ending his life. Turning to aid Guts I found he was waiting for me. Two mangled corpses that used to be captains were laying at his feet.
Me: haaaa, pretty impressive. I'm surprised you could kill those two before I killed him.
Guts: weak.
Me: hahahahahahaha! Its not that there weak but that you're too strong. Anyway I have a proposal. Help me fight Bazuso. I have no interest in the bounty, I just need to be the one to kill him.
Flashing me a grin, Guts appeared demonic.
Guts: (nods)
Moving forward we faced the commanders.
Me: ooooh, one for me and one for you
Becoming serious, I charged at my opponent. shortly after I rose my sword my opponent shifted forward, winding me with an elbow strike. When i stumbled back the commanders sword swung for my throat. Without enough time to dodge the blow I lowered my head. As the commanders sword slashed across my forehead I grit my teeth against the pain. the commander meeting more resistance than he was expecting he stumbled forwards. Taking this opportunity I brought my sword in a upward slash. With quick reactions the commander blocked my blow with his arm. Sacrificing his arm for his life.
When he backed away to regain his footing, I renewed my attack. Bringing my sword down I could see his arm waver. With every attack his arm sunk lower. Noticing this I Adopted a two handed grip. My own blade once again came down, from the force his own sword was pushed back into his head. He fell with his own sword lodged along his eyes I looked over towards Guts. He was once again waiting with his enemy laying bisected behind him. Steeling myself for the final battle I moved forward.
