Volume 2 upgrade specialist start chapter 12 – blackwood stronghold
Synopsis of upgrade specialist courtesy of wuxia world
Just as a gamer found an overpowered skill book called ‘Item Upgrade’ in the hottest virtual reality role-playing game on Earth, something happened to the game’s system, causing his soul to leave his body and go to another dimension. Common sense dictates that he would be born anew then become the greatest overlord of this world by making use of his advanced knowledge. Not in this case! He was already dead. Only some fragments of his soul and that skill book managed to get into that dimension and merge with an ordinary common youngster called Bai Yunfei.
This was the enormous Tianhun continent, where humans could be said to have no limits. There was a group of humans here who could cultivate the power of their own souls then control their bodies, the natural elements and even other people’s souls with that power! These special beings were called — soul cultivators. Come witness how the several fragments of the dead inter-dimensional traveller's soul and that skill book, which was not governed by the laws of this plane, were going to help Bai Yunfei become a legendary soul cultivator and craftsman!
my synopsis of the mission situation.
upon starting his journey bai Yunfei runs into a group of bandits, lead by several soul cultivators. along with his new friend, li chengfeng the recently awakened soul cultivator, he vows to destroy the bandits. with this goal, he attacks their home, the blackwood stronghold.

Having woken from my slumber I prepared for the mission. Wearing loose fitting clothes and carrying a backpack I went next door. Already waiting for me were Gareth and Alice, carrying their own equipment.
Solomon: let's go then.
Walking out of the hotel we made our way west, to the teleportation district. As we walked we saw many people heading the same direction. Most of them hauling equipment. As we made it to the district a large gate stood before us. After walking through the gate 4 lines stood before us, each with a sigh marking them. The first saying unranked, then G-F rank then D-A rank finishing at S+
Each line was shorter than the last. With about 300 people before us it would take around an hour to reach the front. As we were queuing a group of 5 approached us.
Ignis: hey, you’re the newbies from before aren't you. I'm surprised you survived this long.
Recognizing the arrogant voice I knew this was the dragon's flame guild members. The same ones I met when I entered domain. Standing with his followers he cast an imposing figure.
Solomon: we are. It's been a while Ignis, what do you want?
I could tell that this G rank group led by and F rank would have no good reason to approach us.
Ignis: what's with the cold attitude, we only thought you should be gracious and let us take your spot in line.
Having my suspicions confirmed I refused him.

Solomon: if you want to enter a mission you should go to the back of the line.
When I said this one of the bodyguards butted in. I recognised him as the one from who displayed his powers to the newbies.
Bodyguard; huh, who do you think you are, us dragon's flame members were gracious enough to take your place. Who are you to refuse us?
Standing forward a swirl of flame coalesced around his body. As my comrades prepared to fight I stopped them with a raised hand.
Solomon: ill handle it
Ourous: hostile intent detected, killing these contestants no longer costs points.
With the support of Ourous I faced off against the bodyguard. I would make it clear we weren't weak.
Solomon: who am I to refuse you, you fail to see your own mistakes. Let me teach you.
Reaching out I held my arcane orb in my hand. As I charged it with half of my qi the lizards head formed again. Facing off against my attack the man panicked, frantically trying to summon his flames to protect him. As the full strength of my skill filled the ball he froze knowing he was about to die.
Old man: WHO DARE CAUSE TROUBLE HERE?
As a voice like thunder echoed through the air a huge pressure was placed onto us. I could barely breath under such power. Floating between our groups appeared an old man. Wearing an robe covered in runes along with his long silver hair he screamed power. As this man landed on the ground the pressure lessened, though it still weighed on me I could at least move.
Bodyguard: guardian Diogenes, these rabid dogs attacked us. They tried to ki bleurgh
Before he could finish speaking a torrent of wind hit him, sending him sprawling.
Diogenes: YOU DARE LIE TO ME BOY. I SAW YOU THREATEN THEM. Ignis, you and your followers are banned from here for a day. LEAVE.
Ignis: thank you for your leniency, guardian.
Bowing to the Oldman, Ignis then quickly ran for the exit. Followers in tow.
Turning to me the old man lessened the pressure further.
Diogenes: you are quite bold, young one. To attack a member of the dragon's flame you're either brave or stupid, why did you use such a strong skill on the group's weakest?
Solomon: thank you for the help guardian. I attacked like so to prove my strength. If they see me eliminate one of them in one move they would escape. If it’s the weakest the backlash from their guild would be considerable weaker. Anyway, I will be sure to repay you.
Diogenes: HAHA, a G rank will repay me. Anyway, you're very cunning, but I think you underestimate the dragon's flame guild. If they can do anything its hold grudges. But seeing as you have the arcane orb as your weapon your backing probably isn't weak. In the future I would watch out for dragon's flame if I were you.
Having finished here he disappeared into the sky, taking the pressure with him.

Having recovered from the event we continued to wait in line. From the changed atmosphere I could tell the people around us were afraid of us. After seeing us stand up to an A rank guild (as we had learnt since arriving to domain) they were wary of us.
After waiting for 10 more minutes we reached the front of the line. Standing before us was a small wooden door and a man in a finely made suit.
Marvin: hello, I am Marvin. One of the workers assigned to missions. How can I help you today?
His voice was monotone and there was no focus in his eyes.
Solomon: we would like to a team mission.
Turning his head Marvin looked at Gareth.
Marvin: you are not G rank, do you still wish to participate.
Gareth: yeah.
Marvin: please proceed through the door and stand in the array.
As he said so the door behind him disappeared, revealing narrow hallway. After walking down the hallway it opened into a small hall. With plain coble walls and no furniture it looked rather bland. When we had walked into the room the voice of Ourous reached us.
Ourous: Mission, blackwood stronghold, commencing. World, Upgrade Specialist in Another World, commence.
In an instant we were teleported to the mission. Standing near a waterfall, we appeared. The dense trees around us giving a feeling of uncertainty. Looking around us I could see several people, around a dozen after counting. Most on their own, however a group of 4 stood out. 3 men wearing heavy armour following a woman. The woman was wearing a plain blue robe and holding a ornate staff. under her hood I could see she had deep blue eyes mixed with a young face. Overall she was quite attractive. The men upon seeing me staring unsheathed their swords. From the air around them I knew they weren't G rank so I wasn’t too concerned.
Solomon: I wouldn’t do that if I were you.
Holding up the arcane orb I made it levitate in my hand. Clearly displaying my G rank power. Seeing this they held back their hostility.
Ourous: mission title, destroy blackwood stronghold. Objective 1, kill chieftain han xiao. Objective 2 kill vice chieftain yang tian. If either objective fails mission is failed. Time limit 15 days.
Mission rewards.
Completing mission, 200 points. Killing 1 bandit, 2 points killing hall master xiao chen, 50 points. Killing vice chieftain yang tian, 100 points. killing chieftain han xiao, 200 points.
All rewards will be reduced by ten percent.
Mission commence.
Turning towards the people here I proposed an offer.
Solomon: hello fellow contestants, I am Solomon. I would like to propose an offer to you. As you can see us three are in a team. As the strongest group we would like for you to cooperate with us.
Leaving a few seconds gap I continued my offer.
Solomon: During this mission I would like for you to follow our instructions. If you do I can guarantee that our chances to complete the mission will be high.
Contestant: why should we follow you?
Nodding my head to Gareth he took out his cassul, aiming it at a nearby boulder. After a few shots the distinct holes in the boulder proved our point.
Seeing this the unranked people all agreed to follow us, leaving only the group from before.
Solomon: what about you?
Staff woman: we are willing to work with you, but not follow you.
Solomon: I can work with that, however, if we face a strong enemy you have to fight with us.
Standing forward she raised her hand.
Solomon: deal
Standing forward I shook her hand.
Now addressing everyone I gave out orders.
Solomon: okay, we are going to look for wait here for the main characters to return. this should be their base so when they return I will talk to them. If we can get their support the mission will be a lot easier. All of you unranked, set up your shelter. If you don’t have any on you make one. Alice, summon necro and have the goblies scout around the area. Gareth, supervise the unranked.
I then turned towards the robed woman's group.
Solomon: follow me.
Walking to the forest I lead them away from the others.
Solomon: so what're your names.
The three armoured men looked nervous, but the woman spoke up.
Aries: I am Aries, these three are bodyguard I hired for this mission. They tell me to call them bob 1, 2 and 3.
Saying so she pointed out each bob.
Solomon: okay, you're going to keep an eye on the unranked. Long as we don’t get backstabbed this mission well complete it.
Aries: we can do it, but why would you ask us? Wouldn’t it be better to ask your teammates?
Solomon: we need to focus on fighting, as the strongest, we have to beat the enemy.
Having given everyone their orders I returned to the waterfall. By this point all of the unranked had set up their tents. Alice was with necro looking out into the woods. Her 48 goblies spread around the tree line.
Alice: Solomon, I've found some people fighting in the woods. A group of twelve against two young men.
Solomon: that’s probably them. Alright, Gareth and I will go take a look. Can you have a goblie lead us?
Alice: yeah, but they are about ten minutes away.
After nodding to Alice I Turned around I addressing everyone
Solomon: everyone, we have found people in the forest, Gareth and I will go to find them. Hopefully they can give us info. While we are gone Alice is in charge, also Aries is the second in command.
Saying so I pointed out Alice and Aries, before over to Gareth.
Solomon: ready to go?
Gareth: yeah, let's go leader.
Turning around we saw a small goblie kneeling to us.
Solomon: lead us.
Then following the small creature we sped off into the woods.

A Cleric's Life for me.
This is a casually written story loosely based on TTRPG games like DnD and Pathfinder. The attempt of the story is to have a slow growth in power and comical set of characters who eventually grow close and set off for more serious adventures. There will be plenty of familiars and funny tales that don't involve combat. The intention is not to be a goody-two-shoes cleric story where nothing bad happens. The intention for this story was a slow paced grungy story where everything seemed great at first and things just kept getting worse. I learned how shitty of a story that is to write and honestly I am just not good enough to get the idea down. I plan on revisiting it later.
