《First》Ch. 12 Nightmare Armour

Niera placed a hand on the cards and from it rose a tidy pile of armour.
The nightmare set was a player creation and as such came with certain, 'intents,' with its design. This was a game to players and that even applied to outfit design. In a gamers mind, the idea of being modest, did not exist.
Made primarily of shadow drake scales, the outside was a hard shiny black. Enchanted, the scales would move with the wearer as if the scales were on the living drake itself. If the muscles so much as twitched, the armour would show a response. The footwear was heeled, yet another sign that this was player made. Who in their right mind would wear heels into a fight? Then there was vile green core at its centre, the cornerstone of its strength. That stone provided the armour with magic for its abilities and operations and could be recharged through ones own or another's magics.
This lead Niera to wear an attire that should only be found in sexual nightmares. It was most definitely alluring but also gave one the thought that their throats would be ripped should they approach. Coupled with her mission focused eyes, it was intoxicatingly terrifying.
Still, the look wasn't what John cared about as the elf walked out of the infirmary. The nightmare armour was made for assassins and was capable of turning oneself invisible, improving mobility, and most importantly, changing the appearance of ones features. In this armour, Niera could appear human.
They were still currently headed to Avalon and it was a human ship. With elves and humans in a state of cold war, an elf showing up in the kingdom would surely cause a ruckus.
Now what stood before John was a seductive black haired, human, beauty. Her once straw blonde hair turned black by the armour's magics while her face was no longer exotic and her ears not long and pointy.

"How is it?"
"Embarrassing but highly functional and surprisingly comfortable."
"It has a cloaking function, try thinking of something clear."
Niera pictured the scene of a river, the fresh water giving her the thought of clearness she desired. In turn, she disappeared from sight, revealing only a shimmer of distorted light when she moved. Even her head which wasn't covered by the armour was concealed.
John raised a hand and small sparks of Arcane released in Niera's direction over a wide range. The energy was so small, it was harmless. But when it struck the armour, the cloak disappeared like she suddenly was covered in a mirror which disappeared in a crash, revealing her once more.
"Any attack will break the cloak. Moreover, activation of the cloak is what drains the mana core so avoid repeated activations in a row. It was made for assassins who typically end their combat immediately after engaging. Which is to say, keeping it on for extended periods of time is alright, when u have the chance test it yourself.
Remember, you still make noise while in cloak and can still be seen to a slight degree. And again, activation and re-activation is the same, just think of something clear."
"I understand. Thank you for this, I will make sure to repay this as well."
"Ah, there you go again. This outfit was a gift, think of it as something for my own sake as I'm not sure where I was supposed to put my eyes with your previous attire."
A flash of the embarrassment swept across Niera's eyes.
"Well anyways, your looking for an elder dragon correct? There's the elder red dragon in the human continent you might try, not my first choice but I don't think there are others that you can reach.

The next closest is the elder coral dragon but it's underwater, without expensive gear and support, it's out of your reach.
I'm already heading to Avalon, so just stick with me until there and then go with a hunting party in the red dragon territory. I'm sure with your looks you won't have trouble finding some men that were 'already going there.'"
"Thank you."
"Doesn't mean the trip is free."
"Of course."
John moved to the alchemy lab and Niera followed.
Inside they found the skytiger still sleeping. John grabbed some of the prepared formula and began feeding it to the tiger.
"You're going to feed this guy and be responsible for him."
Niera starred. Then starred and starred some more.
"That's a skytiger cub." She was completely monotone in her words, disconnected from herself in its presence.
"Yup. He's pretty tired so he might not wake up for days. Just feed him that and it will be fine."
With that he passed her the formula. He had to lift her hand and curl her fingers around the formula as she didn't respond and continued her stare.
Leaving he left for the open deck, it was about time and seeing him leave Niera snapped out of her daze to follow him out.
Looking over the bow he could see it, a cloud of dark jade green 3 kilometres tall and wide sphere, releasing countless bolts of lightning in all directions. It was a dragon line gate.
First was simply too large, even if technology could be made real in this world it may not even match for the planet's shear size. Over a thousand times larger then earth, Eden required special characteristics to travel. These were the dragon line gates.
Dragon lines were the planets veins in a matter of speaking. They existed everywhere on first and carried enormous amounts of energy within them. Don't think of them as something to tap into though, if the shear energy didn't kill you like a nuclear blast, Eden would follow up with something worse. It didn't like anything tampering with its dragon lines and was at a level of strength well beyond the combined races might.
Dragon line gates were a phenomena when dragon lines crossed each other. By flying into clouds generated over the crossing, one could reappear at another gate down the dragon line where it crossed another dragon line. The process was like travelling through a tunnel, a very windy tunnel. The one danger it possessed was that inside ran extreme winds that only lessened at its centre. Carelessly fly away from that single safe path and you would be ground finer then dust.
Of course Icarus was flying straight into it.
