《Legacy of the Ancient》Chapter 11 - The Banished

Cain explained what happened to Marion when he got back to the Inn. She did not shed a tear, but instead, Marion was more worried about him, but Cain said he was fine. He left with Lexa’s body to Palvaran Orphanage that night.
Aunt Germi collapsed after seeing Lexa’s body. Cain tried to explain what happened while leaving gruesome details.
When Cain said he was banished, she couldn't accept that, but also grateful for he was not being executed.
Cain rested in the living room. He laid down his body on an old couch. With all that had happened, he tried his best not to think about it. But, still, he could only fall asleep when the dawn was near.
…
Late in the morning, Marion arrived at the orphanage to attend the funeral.
Igo and Carals also came. Marion and Aunt Germi were surprised to see their King here, but they didn't make a fuss about it. Only few were attending the funeral.
Cain put Eagle’s Talon next to Higa’s tombstone. Then he sat cross-legged in front of the graves of his best friends.
Igo gave some words, and end it with “May their souls be embraced by the Goddess.”
In the City Square of Aroum, Dios disclosed last night incident to the public without spilling crucial information about the Kingsmight, and declared that the culprit would be banished tomorrow. But he didn't expose who exactly did it. He already investigated that Cain was quite known at Pama Market, thus if he exposed Cain as the culprit, he could see some of the Market residence would take questions. He really wanted to avoid such things.
The West Pillars was already rebuilding, some of the workers were cleaning the rubble. The Capital’s lively wasn't gone with last night incident.
Back to the hill in Barm forest. The funeral had ended. Carals were already gone, only Marion, Aunt Germi, Igo and Cain were still there. Cain was still sitting on the ground.
“I will wait at the orphanage, then we can go to the inn together," Marion tapped Cain’s shoulder and left with Aunt Germi.
Cain planned to stay at the inn before leaving Arozora, while taking care of Higa and Lexa’s stuff there.
Igo walked to the edge of the cliff. “Be strong, Cain,” said Igo.
Cain did not immediately respond to it. He just looked at the graves of his friends.
“... You know, today is the weirdest day of my life,” said Cain. “I woke up this morning without Lexa’s grumbling voice. And I ate breakfast without a piece of an eggshell in my fried egg that Higa used to serve specially for me,” Cain continued.

“I’ve been there,” said Igo while gazing at the scenery. “When the Queen died, I was in a worse state than you. But I overcame it,” he turned to Cain. “Will you?”
“... Yeah, it’ll pass. I just can't believe I’ll leave Arozora without them.”
“You have your destination yet?” asked Igo.
“I don't know… probably Krevias.”
Krevias was a Kingdom with a beautiful nature and a relaxing scenery. It’s capital city, Hivelvaih, built in the center of Olren Lake. Krevias Kingdom was located south of Arozora. It took 2 weeks to reach it with carriage and another day to reach the Olren Lake.
“Krevias? Ah, I told you about it in the past, right?”
“Yep, Lexa said she wanted to see Olren Lake there one day. Maybe I should try its relaxing scenery myself,” said Cain.
“I see, you should prepare for your journey then.”
“More like my exile," Cain laughed lightly.
He already made a joke and laughed. Igo had a bit worried about him, but it seemed like it wasn't needed.
“Alright, I’ll leave for Aroum City. Meet you tomorrow morning at the south gate,” Igo stood up followed by Cain.
“Wow! Iligo the Mighty himself gonna see me out! It’s an honour, Your Majesty!” Cain slightly bowed.
Igo hit Cain’s head with a hand chop.
“Ouch! Why!?” Cain covered his head.
“Hahaha! Nothing! It’s good to see you back to yourself!” Igo laughed so hard.
“Huh? What?”
“See you tomorrow!” Igo turned around and left.
“Really, old man?” Cain shook his head and smiled. “You don't have to worry about me,” said Cain.
Igo was already too far to hear that. But he smiled after that last sentence.
In the afternoon, Cain emptied Lexa and Higa’s room at the inn.
He left most stuffs to Marion, to use or sell them. Except Lexa and Higa’s book that had been given by Igo. Higa’s book was filled with sketches, it's his hobby. While Lexa’s was filled with food recipes. Although Higa was the one that cooked at the inn, but it was Lexa who came up with the recipes. He took those books and their bracelets with him.
Next day.
After he said his farewell to Marion, Cain walked to the south gate, he wore a grey leather jacket. Bag on his back. He didn’t bring much.
At the gate, Igo, Carals, Dios and Aunt Germi were waiting for him. Two Kingsmight with a carriage also had been prepared to escort Cain to the outer post of Arozora.
“Woah! you guys are already here! Can't wait to kick me out, eh?” Cain jokingly asked when he arrived at the gate.

Aunt Germi suddenly hugged Cain.
“Be careful out there, okay?” She rubbed Cain’s back.
“Don't worry Auntie. Ah… I’ll miss you and the orphanage,” said Cain.
Aunt Germi let him go.
Then, Igo came towards him. “Don't worry, I'll pay a visit or two to Palvaran,” he said. Igo could feel that Cain a bit worried about her.
Cain nodded.
“Here. This will help you in your journey," Igo gave Cain a pair of gloves and a Valfikr Continent map.
“Farewell gift? Thanks, old man!” Cain smiled.
“Ahem! Don't forget he’s still your King," Bagulv interrupted them.
“Thank you too, Sir Bagulv," Cain replied with a carefree smile.
Bagulv shook his head.
“This is from the Kingsmight who thinks that you should’ve not been banished. And they acknowledged your strength,” said Ivela while handing a cloak made from high grade materials to Cain.
“Thank you! I prefer it's from you though,” said Cain.
“Hmm? Says the man who still owe me a dinner.”
“Wait, so you’re impressed after all?”
Cain was talking to Ivela when Dios whispered to Bagulv.
“You’re fine with your sister being teased by him?” Dios grinned.
“She’s kid no more, and looks like he isn’t so bad either," said Bagulv in answer.
Dios nodded, he seemed to agree.
After Cain put his bag into the carriage, he turned around and bowed his head.
“Take care, old man!” He waved his hand as he hopped onto the carriage. The carriage slowly started moving.
“It’s weird for a banished to have such farewell," said Dios.
“Well, he isn't a criminal after all," Igo replied.
“True," Dios nodded.
Igo and Dios chatted while watching the carriage getting farther away.
…
“Hey, you guys are alright with me?” Cain asked the two Kingsmight members that was escorting him on the carriage, one of them was coaching the carriage, another one was sitting in front of Cain. Both of them men in their mid 30s.
“We are. In fact, we admire you, Master Cain.” said the one in front of Cain.
“Oh? I have fans!? And what’s with this “Master” anyway? Just Cain is fine.”
The two Kingsmight were surprised, this young man was different from the man they saw two days before. This man was easy going and probably fun to talk to.
“... Ah, you are a disciple of our King, it’s just a title fit for you. And I’m sorry if it’s too late, I’m Dradia and he’s Kaden.”
Cain and Dradia hand shook while Kaden just waved his hand because he was handing the reins.
“Were. Just Cain is fine. Why are you my fans anyway?”
“We admire you because of what you’ve done, Master Cain. Blazingly singlehanded seeking justice. And revealed Kingsmight’s corruption," said Dradia.
“Not just us. Most of the Kingsmight admires you! We’re your fans now!” Kaden laughed.
“Ahahah… I see. And stop with “Master”, really guys," Cain didn't really know how to react to have people admired him.
Dradia smiled and nodded.
“By the way, is Lady Caral always easy to talk to?” asked Cain. He recalled their talk before he left Arozora.
“You mean Vice Captain Ivela Caral? Yes, yes, she is always friendly to anyone," said Dradia.
“Not to the man who destroyed her base though," said Cain jokingly.
“Hahaha, but after we learned the truth, she’s nice, right?” said Dradia.
“She is fun to talk to, wish we met under different circumstances," Cain shrugged.
“We, Kingsmight, always wondering what Vice Captain Ivela’s preferences, because no one ever catches her eyes. She always smiles to anyone who talks with her," said Dradia.
“So many men tried to get close to her, but she’s never really open to any of them. She’s kinda mysterious. But that’s also her charm I guess,” Kaden added.
“Is she? Hmm… but I owe her dinner," said Cain.
“You owe her dinner!?” Dradia was shocked.
“Yeah, why you look so surprised?”
“Master Cai-!... Cain! As far as we know, Vice Captain Ivela never had any dinner with anyone before! Or accept any invitation!” said Dradia with a serious face.
“Huh!? Didn't you say before, she is friendly to anyone?”
“Yes, she often eats with us, on the same table, same food. But she never has any dinner to a specific person!” said Dradia.
Cain had grasped the situation, did he really blow his chance to get close to the Silver Rose of Arozora?
“Uhh… then it’s not really my luck I guess," Cain sighed.
Dradia smiled, and put his hand on Cain’s shoulder. “We, your fans, will always have your back, Cain. Perhaps, after your exile?”
“5 years? Pfff... maybe she is already married when I return from my exile,” Cain laughed.
Dradia and Kaden also laughed.
To reach the outer post, it would take two days. They rested at night at the inn in some villages. Their expenses were covered by the Kingdom.

A Castle in a Teacup
One might say that to anger forces beyond the ken of fragile breakable mortals is a bad idea, others might say that meddling in dark forces with little chance of gain is also a bad idea, they would both be right by on all counts but they forget to mention also how incredibly stupid combining both of those things are. Stupid people don’t last so long on the mystic side of things, normal folks who wander over to the other side have a tendency to do one of two things, either A. figure out that the best thing to do is keep their head down and not draw attention from any entity that refers to humanity as “you mortals” , or B. something horrifying happens to them. As you may have guessed I fell into the second category, mostly because I thought there was a third option. See I though there must be an option C, an option where I got to end up not as some shitty back ally wizard cowering at the chance of discovery, praying that one of my wards or spells wouldn’t be noticed by something that goes bump in the night. No I would be the one who rose above all that. I would never have to be afraid. Well I made a good attempt at it that’s for damn sure, but unfortunately for me it turns out there is not an option C. At least not for me…
