《Wayfinder》Day 7: Ratcatchers in Belrond

El shows Bandlor how to tend to the cattle, to check the fields for holes, and to repair the perimeter fence. The God is only slightly bored by this routine that El has until reaching the fence. He looks over the damage and turns to El with a grin.
"What? A nail falling out isn't that crazy." El cocks a half-grin and looks down at the hammer and nail in his hand.
"The nails were taken? Most likely being used as swords in the Blood War. Or possibly just some local squabble."
"It's just bent iron right?" El looks down at the nail in his hand.
"Iron in this region is special, right?" Bandlor takes the nail from El.
"It's forged at lower temperatures and its more dull." El explains unsure why he needs to.
"Cold Iron then. Definitely being used by fairies." Bandlor smiles.
"Fairies!" El looks back to the boards he's been repairing for years.
"Fix the damn board. Supply my troop!" Bandlor orders.
"I'm not sure I like the idea of thieves causing this damage." El takes the nail back and fixes the board in the fence.

After training, El feels tired and struggles to breathe. For dinner with Arkin he spends most of it with his head on the table. Bandlor pushed him to his limits for hours. His muscles scream out for relief. Arking suggest he go to Drig's tavern and pay the extra six copper coins for a bath.
El thanks Arkin and his wife for the meal before heading out. He wasn't feeling up to going to the tavern. He never went there. He fetched water from the well filling up a wooden tub in the barn. With a quick scrub before bed he was at the very least clean.
The teen climbs the ladder into the rafters where his platform is. The boy shivers as he settles into bed. A terrible chill drafts in from the hole on the otherside of the roof. He was going to have to fix that before Arkin notices.
