《Dark historian》Chapter 8: Oak tree

George didn’t feel like reading the wine manual anymore. He knew the reason for this morning and didn’t want to think about it anymore. But his personality didn’t let him forget. So he tried to fall asleep but he couldn’t. He even started to think about the chip and how handy it would be right now.
He didn’t have any book except for the Beginners guide and the wine manual and didn’t feel like reading either of them. He kept looking around the room and saw a small book on the desk of the boy with blue clothes, with the text skills and its uses on it. It was pretty new and looked like the boy hadn’t used it much.
George had never learned martial arts and there were also no books about it in the tutorial world. If you wanted to learn martial arts, you need to pay credits.
He didn’t know the boy and didn’t feel like taking his things without asking. And it didn’t seem like the boy liked him either.
After giving it a lot of thought he didn’t go to the boy to ask for the book. He didn’t have the personality to be bold and didn’t want to worsen his day. So he noted the book in his mind and decided to buy it the next time he went to the city.
The next morning George exited his room and started to walk towards the winery. His underneath his eyes were black circles and he had a tired look on his face. He couldn’t sleep last night and felt irritated.
He arrived at the winery and looked for Levy. He was still an hour early and it didn’t seem like Levy had arrived yet.
He went to the back yard and saw a big tree what looked old and almost as long and the building. Next to it was a well that hadn’t been used in a long time. He went to the well to get some water but saw no bucket to use. After looking around for a while he found an old bucket in the yard and used it to get himself some water.
After drinking some water, he decided to sit in the shade and wait for Levy to arrive. He needed to know what his situation was and if he needed to start looking for a new job.
Just as he leaned back on the tree he felt a sharp pain like that felt as severe as the last time he used the archaeology skill but a lot less severe.
This tree was planted after the big move; it’s made from the seeds of the ancient oak tree but will never be able to reach the greatness of his ancestor.
Do you want to activate the memory?>
Having less pain than the last time George started to concentrate on the text. The first thing he noticed was the ancient oak tree being mentioned. Now his suspicions that Nash was older than seven hundred years was more plausible. He didn’t know how long the screen would stay and active the memory as soon as he memorized the text.

The same thing as last time happened and he was standing in the exact same place as he was now. He looked up and saw a town that looked big enough for only five hundred people and that the wall was not even built yet. The only thing that was exactly the same was the castle in the middle of the town.
There was a boy standing above the corps of a girl crying. They both looked poor and the boy had leather armor on and a wooden staff in his hand. The girl was wearing the standard entering clothes and looked like she was beaten to death.
“I swear to my honor as a man that I will get my revenge from the one that did this to you.”
The boy put her head down and closed her eyes. “I couldn’t protect you, Maria, even though you trusted me with your live and sacrificed so much for me.”
After that, the memory ended and George was back to the present time. He had the same feeling of tiredness and confusion as the last time and did his best to memorize the event. He couldn’t see the use to this kind of memory. Another thing that bothered him was the timeline. It told him that the tree was 739 years old but it didn’t tell him how long ago the memory happened.
Without himself knowing his eyes started to close and he fell into a deep sleep. After a couple hours of sleep, he woke up and realized what had happened. He didn’t think that the memory was really useful, but he had learned an important lesson that memories could be found in the strangest places. He also saw the old town and could see which buildings have a higher chance of activating memories.
Just as he was thinking about what he could use and wat he had seen he remembered why he was there. He didn’t know the time and started to walk toward the winery.
Seeing George arrive so late made Levy a little angry but he didn’t say anything. He wasn’t in a position to criticize anyone and felt like he should apologize first.
Liz also had waited for George to arrive and wasn’t as forgiving as Levy. “Why are you so late?”
George realizing what had happened gave a quick smile and tried to hide the real reason he was late. He didn’t know the full uses of the archaeology skill but didn’t think that sharing it with anyone would be a smart move. “I forgot to set my alarm and just woke up.”
Levy had a weird look on his face and knowing George went straight to the point. “I made a mistake yesterday and I apologize to you. I still don’t know how you did it but it was still my mistake to assume that it couldn’t be done.

I hope that you will keep working here and don’t waste your talent because of the little fight we had yesterday.”
It may have been small to Levy but it was a big fight to George. He had a hard day yesterday and couldn’t even sleep because of it. But the situation didn’t change, he was still a newcomer with no skills and a damaged body. And loosing this job for a job at the farms would not be a smart decision.
“I will come back to work” George gave a quick response and nod.
Levy gave a sigh seeing George’s cold reaction. He still wanted to ask about how George had made the last batch but didn’t want to push things and wanted to give him some time. So he quickly ended the talk and send George back to work.
“Here are three credits for yesterday’s work. I added one as my way of apologizing. I also will keep the winery open until you finish today's batches.”
George went to work and finished another five batches. He took his time and made another five identical batches of wine. Levy got a little surprised because he didn’t think that George could do it a second time. He gave George another two credits and told him to come early the next session day.
“Your wine is good enough to be sold as middle-grade wine. But you need to remember that it’s also the easiest wine to produce and that you have a long way to go. If you can produce the wine just like today and yesterday for another ten session days, I will let you try making a higher grade wine.
Do your best and grab this opportunity. Every five batches of second tier wine will earn you four credits.”
Seeing Levy try to solve the situation made George a little happier. He needed the money and didn’t have the same amount of time the other newcomers had to earn money. But he would never put another foot in the winery if he had a choice. George was a vengeful person and didn’t like people who treated him badly.
Liz was also watching and got surprised, it took her two session months before she could make second tier wine. She only just started making third tier wine one session month ago after five session months. Levy had told her that she had talent and could even be making forth tier wine if she took the winemaker job but she didn’t want to lose a spot to a job like winemaking. Even thought he could earn good money now it would drop a lot later compared to jobs like cloth making or weapon smith.
But George didn’t feel like that about winemaking. He had seen Thaddeus Packard and didn’t think of winemaking as an inferior job. He just wished he could see more of his life and learn from a grandmaster like him.
But even a job as simple as winemaking was hard to get for a newcomer. Jobs could only be learned from birth like legacy’s or passes on by others masters, who have the ability to give the skill to one student every session year.
That’s why everyone would jump at the thought if they got offered the job like Levy had to Liz. But Liz had high ambitions and didn’t want to jump at the first opportunity she got and wanted to wait for better options.
George didn’t know why some jobs would be called legacy’s and some would be called normal jobs. He decided to look it up the next time he was reading the beginners guide.
After finishing his work day, he went to find Solomon. He had earned five credits but he still had a debt of three credits to Solomon.
after finding Solomon, George tried to give him the two credits. Solomon had a little smile on his face and knew of yesterday’s events after Liz had told him this morning. Liz was Solomon’s best student and put a lot of emphasis on her. That’s why they became really close and he was like a true master to Liz.
Solomon happy with Georges actions took one credit from his hand and started asking about how his day was. George again not wanting to bother Solomon said fine and didn’t explain yesterday’s events. The situation was solved anyways.
Solomon amused with George’s actions made a sign with his hands for him to go back to his room.
“I’m happy you came back to pay the debt you own. This alone will keep you alive a lot longer than many other newcomers. But I didn’t say you have to pay me back as soon as you got the money. Bring me back one credit every session week and use the rest to strengthen yourself. There is a class tomorrow morning at eight that’s called skills and the basics. It costs one credit and you will also receive a book called skills and its uses. Even though it doesn’t explain skills, it does explain the types of skills and will help you find a skill that suits you.
Now go back and get some rest. Your look like you haven’t slept in days.”

Scorched - The Winter Winds (LitRPG)
Frank Ebner once wanted to save the world. Let the second one be better than the first. On Earth he was a student of... well it hardly matters anymore. It was dying, and he and the rest of his fellows and friends studying how to stave off the end graduated just in time to be told it was too late. That there was not enough time, funds, will, to stop it anymore. That the governments and the worthies of the world had moved from trying to stop it, to surviving the oncoming apocalypse, while blaming each other. That was a world Frank wanted nothing to do with. One riven by wars for places in the Archologies going up, and between them and the dying world they were leaving behind. So when a strange voice offered him a way out, to a world unmarred by the poison killing his? Frank took it. The voyage changed him, made him fit his new world, one of stats and magic. It came with perks, for in passing through their Heavens, they'd been exposed to Divinity, and taken some of the Celestial within them. Heroes now, but there are heroes, and there are Heroes. The nobility of the Empire care only for those who carry blessed bloodlines, and their time to adapt and train up for the new world is limited. Patrons are scarce among those like Frank, with only the base Hero perks, and magic studies expensive and lengthy. Often requiring heavy Oaths to gain the necessary aid to wield mana as a mage. Frank found another way. It nearly cost him his life. Now on the run and burned by the very magic he sought and craved, he is a pilgrim traveling to the The Eternal Tree, font of Perseverance. Frank hopes Ir-karlak will grant him some way to recover from the fires that scorched him. Without snuffing out the embers those fires lit within, for he has learned to harness them and he would not give up magic for the world. *** In the last 21 days, as I update this, I've managed about 18-19 updates. So Scorched should update most days, muse willing. She's fickle, sometimes. Not every day, but most. If there's an update for the day, it will be at 7PM, GMT+2. *[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Actually completed it. :) *

Where Giants Fall
A fantasy LitRPG about traversing through worlds and slaying giants with nothing but a wooden suit and an army of treants. Nicholas Atkins didn't expect to wake up naked in the glowing woods. What he did expect was waking up to a hangover after last night's party- fortunately, that wasn't the case. Unfortunately though, he had worse problems to take care of than a headache. At first he blamed it on the alcohol; from what he recalled in Biology, glowing flowers didn't exactly exist in the realm of reality. However he was as sober as he could be, so next he blamed the drugs, but there was a problem- he didn't have the money to do drugs in the first place. When the fairies came, things became even weirder. Talks of climbing towers, magic tricks, and dinner were all on the table. Of course, dinner was the priority, but so was getting back home. However slowly, Nico realized that he might actually want to stay in this fantasy world. After all, he's had enough listening to Professor Paul's lecture on calculus- the swords and sorceries were just an added bonus. Still, staying in this new world has its own costs- and money is but one thing on that long, long list. Updated everyday except Saturday GMT+8 (Specific time varies by around 30 minutes). Mon at 9:00 AM Tue at 12:00 PM Wed at 3:00 PM Thu at 6:00 PM Fri at 9:00 PM Sun at 12:00 AM
