《Adventures of a young Zuma》Volume 1- CHAPTER 1

As I gained my senses, I was already 2 years old. We Zuma’s have a short life span, according to the Elder. He himself is around 20 years old. We normally lived around 20-25 years. In our world, we are at the bottom of the social hierarchical order. Our world Zenden is divided into two parts. One half is ruled by the Lendoz tribe and the other half is inhabited by the Zoit society. The continent of Zoit is divided into many pasts controlled by numerous beast clans. The Elder said that as many as 100 clans are known to us that currently lives in the Zoit continent. All the tribes are controlled by the council of Zoit, consisting of elected representatives of all the quadrants of the continent, namely north, south, east, west and center. Our clan is located under the west quadrant.
We Zuma’s don’t have a strong build like the other clans, nor are very monetarily empowered. We are considered not important and even considered a waste product of this planet by some clans. We lose clan members frequently due to monster transgressions on our land. As we are less fortunate, we have only a small weapons cache and a few guards if you want to call them that. Thus, our numbers are low... very low. Our repeated pleas to the Quadrant Council had been without reply. Sadly, I lost my parents to an attack like this when I was just born. Before their death, my mother named me Le’on.
I asked the Elder of our clan’s history. He told me that every clan had a patriarch and due to that we have an innate ability to evolve. We Zuma’s start the cycle at the age of no less than 3. We grow from Zuma Infant To Zuma Level 1 and then to level 2, 3, 4 and 5. The elder is at Zuma Level 4. In our clan, only one beastman had entered level 5 and that was our patriarch, his name was Hui’Mi. But compared to other clans growth, our highest level equals to their youngsters level. So that is why we are considered inferior or weak compared to them.

At the age of 3, our self status activates and we can check our every physical, mental and racial traits. We are given a choice the first time we activate our status. But that I can only know at the time when my Self Status activates. This is all the information I gathered from the Elder. To tell the truth, I was pretty pissed off at the whole bottom of the society thing really.
Today I decided to do some sightseeing not the sight in our city, though I think it’s more of a rural setup. I wandered into the swamp which bordered our city in the south. It was dense swamp; if one does not possess good tracking skill he will lose his way. I left a distinct mark on alternate trees to identify my way back. About 10-15 mins of exploration in the swamp, I got a glimpse of a slimy monster. It is said that a slimy monster named Doner can best 10 our clan members at a single time. Considering that information, I decided to avoid it as best I could. After going some distance away from it, I looked back to see the Doner and saw something new.
The Doner was fighting with another monster twice its size. The other monster had pinned the Doner down with its hands and kept attacking it with its tail at the center. After a few mins the Doner stopped moving. The other monster which I did not recognize left with only a few scars and some piece of the Doner in it's mouth. It was a good time for me to investigate the dead Doner as I had never seen one up-close. I picked up a long stick with a sharp tip and it also thick. Armed with the stick, I approached it with caution. I came close to the dead slime ball and to my disappointment it was still moving, just barely though. I saw it had 3 small distinct holes on its body which was not caused by its assailant.

I moved carefully so not to get attacked by it. It was a slime ball black in colour. I decided to poke the stick into it. I stabbed the middle hole which was the biggest hole out of the 3. It gave a shrill cry and stopped moving completely. I think I killed it...huh...not bad...I noted to myself that I ever meet any Doner in the future I would first stab the middle hole. I once heard the Elder say that some clans ate the monsters that they killed. I instinctively picked up a small ball like thing from its body which caught my eye. Who knows it might come handy sometime...or not...may just try to eat it...You should try new things and as our life span is small so why not!! Right??
After finishing my search of the Doner, I went ahead to explore more of the swamp. It was filled with tall trees and unknown plants...I felt quite excited. After 1 hour of exploring I decided to return back, while walking back the direction I came from following the marks I had made at first. Covering some distance back, suddenly something fell in front of me with a thud, just like that... out of nowhere. I went ahead to check what had fallen down. It was a flight type monster, probably named Kwas. It had a big hole in its center, actually the hole was see through. I looked up and saw the same monster that had killed the Doner leaving with a piece of this guy laying at my feet. I looked down towards the dead Kwas and again to my surprise it was still moving... just barely though. I stabbed the stick I had in its eyes. It gave out some noise before going into eternal slumber... huh... twice lucky. I took some piece of it with me too.
Upon reaching my home, I felt kind of hungry. I just had a long walk too, so I decided to have a quick snack. Boiled some water along with souvenirs I collected. Then deep fried it and ate it. The small ball like thing had a good taste and the Kwas meat was delicious... now I understand why that monster hunted these two. I was satisfied with my snack and decided to explore more of the swamp, but I had to first collect some kind of weapon to attack or defend myself... mostly to defend.
