《Bathilda the Bat》A Simple Question
Advertisement
After a brief conversation, which was more on the lines of Bathilda thrusting the fields and the unknown animals on the poor, but needy townsfolk, the blonde-haired Vampire is feeling rather satisfied with herself. One for helping the city and two for not having to feed and look after the animals.
After Tom and Gladice left, Scout Jones stayed behind and is sitting on Bathilda's sofa in blissful tranquility. Not minding, but skeptical of his good mood, Bathilda asks why he hasn't also returned to Home.
"My superiors gave me a promotion and told me that I was to be the new liaison officer between you and our city. Can you believe it!? Me! An officer." Scout Jones looks overjoyed at the new position he has been given. To Bathilda it sounds like it dumped upon him more than anything.
"You seem a lot less cautious of me today. What's up with that change?" Bathilda asks, curious to the scout's change in attitude toward her.
"Well, I was thinking about all the things you're trying to accomplish. That and the fact that you didn't kill me on our first encounter. I now see you as a soul searching for redemption." He has a serious look on his face as he sips his tea.
"Redemption? You mean acceptance, right? What do you think I need redeeming for?"
"I don't know? You have to have gone through some crazy shit to become as strong as you are though. I'm honestly still a little shocked that you can survive out here on your own, but that's proof right there is it not?"
"Since when did you become Preacher Jones?" Bathilda furrows her brow in frustration at his presumptuous, yet correct, words. "First of all, I haven't killed anything that didn't deserve it. It's a dog eat dog world out there and from behind your walls I'm sure you're quite far from most of it. Not that you don't have your own problems. Second, when a hot babe, a.k.a me, shows up to save a city from what was possibly its day of destruction. Why can't they welcome her with open arms like any other self-respecting city in a novel would?" Bathilda is panting as she barely pauses to breathe during her rant.

Scout Jones holds his tea in his hand and hasn't moved since he felt the irritation of his host. Gone is his blissful attitude as he struggles to find an appropriate response that will satisfy the red-faced demon.
Hiro flops down onto the sofa beside him and smiles at the man who's lost for words. "It's ok. I didn't understand half of what she said either. What I did gather though, is that she is still a little irritated at being outcast shortly after arriving and rescuing the citizens."
Bathilda looks back and forth between the two of them as Scout Jones repeats her actions, only between herself and Hiro that is. Hiro looks more relaxed than a horse grazing in a pasture on the world's finest day. With no imminent death in his near future, he's as happy as can be.
Bathilda takes a deep breath and ends the awkward silence. "Well? Why don't they like me? I'm not here to hurt anyone so they have no need to be scared of me. Realistically, it should be the opposite way around, shouldn't it?" Scout Jones and Hiro both look at each other slightly confused, one more than the other, as Bathilda goes on.
"Shouldn't they see me as like... a guardian or something like that? A defender? Just... someone strong who can protect them. Someone that can defend the city from the monsters without them having to fear. Someone that can heal them if they get injured by any means. Someone that can fill their bellies and put a smile on their face shouldn't be outcast like the bad guy!"
Bathilda kicks at the floor in frustration. No longer talking to Scout Jones or Hiro, she walks away while rambling on and a bottle of wine appears in her hand. Neither her companion, nor the preaching scout, know that the liquid inside the bottle could begin an even-longer preaching session in their all-too-near future.

Opening her eyes, Bathilda finds herself unable to remember the events that led to her being in bed. She remembers creating a bottle of red wine, but everything after that is missing. With her now-exceptional stats, the knowingly-amateur drinker was expecting to at least outlast the first bottle. Sadly though, it would seem the first mouthful took her conscious mind away and left only the drunk Bathilda in its wake.
Luckily, her bedroom seems to be in good condition leading her not to worry too much about what could have happened. Any over-thought always leads to something bad so it's better to just take it as it comes.
As long as I didn't kill anybody, everything will be fine. At that thought, Bathilda enters the lounge. Hiro and Jones are still sitting on the same sofa talking casually until they notice the embarrassed Vampire's arrival.
Scout Jones is trying hard to look anywhere other than where Bathilda is currently standing whereas Hiro is looking directly at her with a large smile on his face. After a second he bursts into laughter causing his guilty-by-association conversation buddy to stiffen up more as he doesn't know what to do with himself.
Clearly Bathilda has made an ass out of herself at some point, evident by Hiro's self-satisfied grin, but how did it happen she wonders.
"Go on then. Spit it out. I know you want to!" She looks at Hiro, knowing full well he's not shy when it comes to speaking his mind.
"What? I don't know what you mean?" He smiles through contained laughter.
"Just tell me, Hiro. Did I do anything bad?" She asks, almost in tears.
"Bad? No, you're fine. Don't worry about it. Foolish on the other hand. Now that's a whole-other story. After you drank that extremely-gorgeous liquid, you've been holding out on me there by the way, you put the bottle down. Then... you just collapsed." He ends up breaking out into more laughter.
"Collapsed?" Bathilda asks as though she hasn't heard him correctly. Even though she definitely did and Hiro nods. Chuckling away as he remembers the event.
"Yep. One second you were standing there, the next you were face down on the floor. It was hilarious. I carried you into your bedroom about twenty minutes ago and then drank that bottle with Jonesy. He's a right guy, you know? Anyway, for carrying you to bed I think I deserve another bottle of that... What was it?" He asks, going off track as drunks usually tend to do.
"That was only twenty minutes ago?" Unbelieving, but knowing Hiro's telling the truth, she summons another bottle of wine for him and explains what it is. Feeling good after her apparent-power nap, Bathilda tries again to partake in the drinking and once more wakes up in her bed feeling slightly embarrassed.
"Damn it!"
