《Drakon the Necrolord》Bonus chapter - Lore entry: Gorgons and harpies

There are two known female-only races. Gorgons and Harpies. Both are thought to have first spawned as dungeon creations during the dungeon wars. This is where the similarities between the two mostly end though.

Gorgons:

99% of gorgons look human with two arms and 2 legs. Very rarely a gorgon is born with the lower body resembling that of a snake. All gorgons have scales on their torso and partway up the neck. Arms and face look like a normal human. The hair is made up of snake-heads. The eyes are another variation, some gorgons have snakelike eyes, some look like humans.

Gorgons reproduce by being able to mate with almost every race, but usually prefer Humans dwarf's and rarely elves. All of the gorgons' offspring will always be female and always be classed as full gorgons. Gorgons also live much longer than most races that they mate with, living up to 500 years or longer. Because of this culturally they usually don’t form any lasting relationships, with most gorgons never knowing who or sometimes even what race their father is.

Harpies:

Bird-like species with only the torso and face of a human female. Mate by kidnapping males, mating with them, and then depending on the tribe, killing them or dropping them back where they find them. Because of this practice, most societies view them as hostile.

A few cults have sprung up about finding it a rare honor to be chosen by a harpy to be its mate. With some even building villages near suspected harpy roosts. Harpies generally don’t care who they pick as mates.

Like gorgons, harpies only have female children.

They live in big roosts on mostly inaccessible mountain peaks. Some tribes have been known to act as caretakers for dragons when they are sleeping.

They often have pets like manticores or roc’s to help protect the roost.
