《The Immortal》30: Dungeon Crawling

We pass by the clan house to allow me to get my gear and ask if anybody else wants to join, even though we already have the required amount. I try to remember the path from the association back to the clan house, but it is really messy. Unlike the road that goes straight to the marketplace, it is a mess of small, curved paths, which constantly messes up my sense of direction.
When we return Larn is gone and Mynie is still sleeping, but Asger is in the middle of training and joins us. We also fetch an empty cart, presumably for what bounty the hunt itself will provide us. It is slightly troublesome to move around as it pretty much takes up the entirety of the paths, until we are out on the road again.
"Can you pull the cart?" Bosir asks me.
"Shouldn't be a problem" I answer shortly and get in position.
Some small chatter and a few hours later at a fast walking pace, Bosir has led us to our destination. The last bit of travel were over just grass. I wonder how he could find out here? Let's just ask.
"Oh, see the roads have these small stone pillars every so often, so you use them to navigate. Otherwise it's just picking the right direction and walking?"
I want to ask how he keeps going straight, but I am afraid of it being something natural in this world, and they would think I am weird for thinking otherwise.
The dungeon here is fairly smooth-floored compared to the one I trained in. There's also a sign over it. I ask what it says.
"I don't know, Bern?"
"Don't know either"
"I thought you could read?" I ask Bosir
"Ah, but the dungeon names and a few other things are in God's language, only priests are usually trained in reading it."

"God's language?"
"Well, it is said that when God came to this world, he named everything and told us his story. But apparently, it is really hard for mortals to understand God's language, so one requires decades of study to be able to grasp it, and we received another language instead."
"Why learn it, if it is only good for reading dungeon names?" I ask
"Ah, apparently god sends a message to all the priests every few centuries. Sometimes a warning, or a command or an order, but every priest hopes to be the one to receive it, and God stills speaks in God's language"
God directly interferes with the world? I had thought the religions were more or less quackery, as the different people seemed, at least the two I have talked to about it, have different stories that put themselves as "the chosen people" as well as differing amounts of gods. Maybe this is just the church exercising an order that must be followed, that they are only using sparingly?
"Well, enough about that. Yos, go ahead alone and show us what you can do, we will be right behind you."
I nod and enter the dungeon. The smooth stone has plenty of patches covered with moss that are somewhat slippery, maybe the hunter's boots will have some sort of spikes on them to deal with issues such as these?
I activate my read magic a little inside. I used to think this was an invincible magic, but as soon as I came to the city, I realised how utter useless it was in crowded places, as I just get a signal from... well, everywhere. But here in the dungeon, I can ignore the signals behind me as my group and sense ahead of me. I limit it to some 150 feet.

4 responses at around maximum. I walk forward and enter a crossroads. This is a second limitation. Mana is apparently blocked by dungeon walls, so all the previous signals appeared to come from straight ahead, but once I use it again at the crossroads, I pick up 1 signal to my left and 3 ahead. I choose to go for the three. Once I reach what should be 30 feet away from them, I still can't see them. I fire the signal once more, and notice it is coming from slightly above.
I crouch my feet, preparing for the maneuver. I sprint a little, jump up and make a sideways slay across where the three signals come from. Even though the torchlight doesn't reach them, I manage to strike all three, and they fall to the ground, chopped in half. Some slightly large bats with oversized fangs and claws, it seems.
"Ooh, impressive" Bosir praises me. "However, why did you jump and slash at them, don't you have any throwables?"
"Throwables?" I try to get him to elaborate.
"Yeah, you know, some knives or axes or javelins? Having one or two of them is only slightly annoying and can be a great boon in battle".
Huh, never heard about that.
"I was never taught that. Only magic and the sword and shield"
"We will have to work on that, also you seemed to know exactly where to go. Did you use magic? How much mana did you use?"
"I can cast the spell I used about 150 times per day, and used three to track them down" I know this from my time spent training.
"Isn't that a little excessive use of mana?"
"Ah, my gift also fills my magic, so I have about 4 times the average mage's use of mana per day" I answer
"Well, let's move on, this shit ain't worth dismantling" Bosir says as we draw deeper in the dungeon.
