《The Parasite》Chapter 4

Rose cleaned the shelves of the library after her last few guests left. What had happened between those two girls earlier? She wondered. All Rose could do was guess as she dusted off the books. She glanced at the clock in the center of the room, 10:22 PM. Only 2 more hours before her shift ended.
She moved to the other side of the shelf, before proceeding to dust the shelf off. She had felt a weird presence in the days she'd been there. All she could guess was that the library was taking its toll on her health. She knew she needed to quit soon. She was getting too old for this.
Rose slowly walked to a empty area, before staring at a bright light. It was the computer Henry and that girl had been sitting at. They must've forgot to turn it off. Rose stared at the computer, and saw the tab it was on. It was of a news article. Along with the photo of a wolf.
Rose got startled just by staring at it, the picture showed what the wolf looked like. It had a ripped ear, blood splattering out of it. One eye appeared to just be TV static, while the other eye was covered with the goo. Blood mixed with dark blue goo drenched it's body. It had a dark twisted smile, gum and goo dripping out of it's mouth. Finally, fur was scattered throughout its body, as if it had merely been taped on. The rest were just patches of bare skin.
Then she heard the chuckle...
Rose turned, startled. "W-Who's there?! I'll call the police!" Rose yelled. Rose grabbed a flashlight and walked toward the direction the voice came from. It lead her to a book. However, Rose noticed there was goo on it...

Rose backed up, startled. She walked off, now alert. Then Rose turned, and saw the computer. It had been turned back on. Rose walked up to it, now confused. The same picture was visible, except... wasn't the Wolf sitting before? Rose knew it had been. Now, it was propped in a standing position, staring at the camera.
Once again, all Rose could do was shut off the computer. Outside, a large storm started to brew. Several thunder cracks erupted throughout the sky. Rose sighed. Fall stunk.
Rose suddenly smelled something... foul. Rose turned toward the smell and saw it was near the doorway of the building. She gagged at the smell, not wanting to step any closer to that door. However, she found herself creeping closer with every inch. Finally, she reached the door, and pulled it open...
Immediately, she was jumped by something furry. She felt something hit her face as it slid down. Rose opened her eyes... and screamed. The Wolf from the picture was standing right above her. It was twitching, as if it had been waiting for this moment. As if it had been watching her before. It opened its mouth to speak, and a loud static sound emitted from it. It hurt her ears.
Rose booked it, running as fast as her legs could carry her. The Wolf followed in quick pursuit. It's smile... It acted as if this was just a game of tag. Rose didn't wanna know what would happen if it caught her. What was that thing? Who was that thing? All those questions swarmed her head.
Running toward the center of the library, Rose saw several books fly out as the bookshelves. A shelf slammed down with such a force that it rattled some of the computers, one falling off the table and causing the screen to shatter.

Rose looked behind her, the animal was gone. Running into a unknown door, she suddenly tripped to her knees, scared out of her mind. She fell hard on her back, she felt like she had broken it. That's when she noticed the lights had gone dim. Rose turned and realized she had tripped over the big, bulky generator. That's when she realized she was in the Electrical Room.
The lights must've been shut off when she tripped. She looked at the watch on her hand, 11:11 PM. Suddenly, she heard something. It sounded... happy. It was a music box. Rose turned toward the source, and nearly screamed. What greeted her was emerald eyes flashing in the dark, along with a gaped open mouth, also flashing, the blue goo coming out as if it were water.
It walked closer, grabbed her head... and smiled as it started to pierce.

A note from the Author: PLEASE leave a review and alert me of any plot holes, weak portions, and anything else. I am in desperate need of beta readers and feedback. I wrote this around the new year, 2020. It's about 40k words and the first in a planned series that follows Gar "Alany" Darron and his agency of detectives as they track missing persons in the city of Throne. I have the sequel planned but not written. Once this one is completely uploaded, I'll be uploading another, unrelated series that as of right now is roughly 160k words long, and somewhere in there, I'll write the sequel to Frame of Mind. I plan to go back and forth between the two series for the foreseeable future. Thanks for reading.
