《The Aether Universe》Chapter 10

Tai walked up to the counter, asking the woman in uniform a question. "Hello, how can I join the Adventurer's Guild?"
The woman smiled at Tai, but frowned when she saw his missing leg and walking stick. "Go over to Jeanne over there," she said, pointing to the counter on her right. "She's the one that deals with new registrations and promotions."
Tai nodded and went over to Jeanne's counter. "I was told that you handle registrations?"
Nodding, Jeanne took out a blank metal card, about the size of a credit card. "Yes, I do. I'm assuming that you're signing up, right? Don't worry, the process is really easy. Put your hand on the card and channel your Ki, Mana, or Chakra, just channel whatever you use and the card will handle the rest."
Tai did as he told, placing his hand on the card and channeling his Ki. As soon as he channeled his Ki, writing started to appear on the card taking only a few seconds before finishing.
Name: Tai Zenith Level: 86 Species: Human Rank: D Missions Completed: 0 Missions Failed: 0
Seeing Tai's level, Jeanne was surprised. There were a lot of people over the level of 50, but almost all of them were UEE soldiers that came here earlier.
Tai looked at the card and saw that it displayed his level. "I'm the only one that can see my information, right?"
"As far as I know, yeah, but you can share it with anyone you like." Jeanne was pretty new to this job and she had been very lucky at appearing beside the city when the planet had begun to grow. "Missions are to the side over there on the holographic board. To see the details of a mission just 'tap' the hologram. Before you go, can I ask if you want to join the leaderboard?"

"Leaderboard?" Tai wondered if he should join this leaderboard. "Can I see the leaderboard first?"
"Yup. Look at that hologram over there. That's the leaderboard for this guild, and if you look beside it, that's the leaderboard for the whole planet," Jeanne answered as she pointed at the two holograms.
Turning around, Tai looked at the holograms.
Guild Leaderboard - Sorted by level 1. Virgil Stanton - Lvl. 154 - Rank A 2. Leon Hayes - Lvl. 97 - Rank C 3. Ara Shinzaburo - Lvl. 94 - Rank D
There were other people after 3rd, but they were below his level so Tai wasn't interested in them. What Tai found weird was that the person in 3rd place was Rank D even though they were a higher level than him. Maybe he just joined today? Tai thought.
Next was the global leaderboard. This was the most important as it would allow Tai to gauge how strong the people who went here early are.
Global Leaderboard - Sorted by level 1. Gaar'uk - Lvl. 628 - Rank S 2. Russel Owen - Lvl. 453 - Rank S 3. Uvius - Lvl. 367 - Rank F 4. Keya Mianan - Lvl. 353 - Rank S
They were strong alright, and they could all probably destroy Tai and toy with him like a grown-up would with a baby. The first person didn't sound human. If Tai had to guess, they were most likely an alien. Seeing that there was a person with a human name at the leaderboard made Tai sigh in relief. This meant that humans weren't an inferior species compared to the other ones.
Uvius, the person at third was also weird. Not only was the name not human, but their rank was also F despite their high level. F was even lower than his rank of D, so this Uvius person probably asked to be demoted, but why? Tai looked at the rest of the list, and all the people in the top 100 were over level 200. He had a lot of making up to do compared to the people that had the advantage of coming early.

Since he wasn't even at the top-100 of the global leaderboard, Tai decided to join the leaderboard and he could always change it if he changed in the future. "Yeah, sign me up for the leaderboard, please."
As soon as he did that, his name appeared on the Guild Leaderboard. At least Tai could be proud that he was rank 4 in this city. Tai nodded his head at Jean and went to the side to look at the missions.
There were many different types of missions, but most of them were of the 'hunt an animal/monster category'.
The rewards weren't that bad either for rank D missions. All the rank D missions paid at least 100 AC, so Tai would need to do 200 missions to gather enough AC to regrow his leg.
Getting his leg back was a top priority so Tai picked the highest-paying rank D mission.
Eliminate the Goblin Tribe
Rank: D
Goblins, beings born from Aether have appeared and made a tribe north of the city. Eliminate this tribe before it poses a threat and progresses into the next stage of their civilization.
Rewards: 243 AC
243 AC. If Tai does only missions that give 200 AC, he would only need to do 100 missions. Leaving the guild to do the mission, some people inside stared at him as he left. They obviously connected that he was the person ranked 4th.
Tai asked some people outside what side of the city he was on and he discovered that he was on the south side of the city. The farthest side from the north.

The Forest Spirit who sought the Gods
After the Gods of Time, Nature and the Elements created this world, they took a rest under the shade of a tree they created. Thanking their creation for helping them back with its shade, they gave the tree sentience, blessed him and called him a friend. Now the Gods are half-asleep, content with only watching. The world has breathed for millenia, and the blessed tree still watches over the forest around himself. The world has changed and his life comes to an end, surrounded by loneliness. Gathering what's left of his strength, he passes his torch on, in the hope of giving a last goodbye to his friends, wherever they may be and whenever they would see. Meet and follow his first and last creation he passes his will to, a one of a kind forest spirit with... abilities (wouldn't want to spoil too much here now, would I?). Curious and cute, he will travel and meet new people, discovering the world he's in, to try and give a last goodbye to the three creation gods in his dad-tree's place.------It's my first time writing a novel! Or anything of the kind, in fact. So bash me as much as you like (within reason, of course).------This will be a world of humans, humanoïds, beasts, magic, and a heartwarming tale of travels across it. It won't always be butterflies, roses and friendship though, heavy moments are there too. Also : depictions of violence, blood and gore, nudity, strong language, alcohol and other classic +17 stuff. To the reader's discretion.

The Core of a Factory
An abandoned steampunk arms factory, in the middle of a conflict torn former state of the Empire it served, gains a soul. This transforms it into a Lord, capable of turning land into power. Beset by enemies on all sides it must figure out how to win the war its creators lost a century ago. This is a progressive Dungeon Core novel (which is to say the core will progress and expand in scale, eventually) across multiple dimensions with different characteristics (e.g. steampunk, magic, mythological). It has rationalist leanings (paragraphs of reasoning) and litrpg leanings (there are stat blocks). The core game mechanical idea is something like "what if different flavors of magic power actually did come from controlling land" and then the story is: "what if there was a flavorless (artifact deck) dungeon core". Chapters will be relatively short (my aim is that in three column format each would fit on a wide screen monitor), the first few chapters - setting up the main character and mechanics - are currently the longest in the entire series. I write chapters in blocks, and then release them one a weekday (M-F; 6 PM GMT, unless RoyalRoad's publish thing screws up) until I run out. There may be a few days of gaps here and there if someone finds an egregious error I have to re-write around or if I am behind. In general though one can read this once a weekend. I may do slight retconns and edits, I'll make sure to put it in an authors note if I do.
