《Overlord Spirit Martial Emperor》The City Lord Takes Action

Heyyyyy. Another chapter here. Shit is getting real...well at least for me. And no...to those who want the dress, just no. IMMORAL! That would be quite funny but unfortunately I can't fit that into the plotline. This isn't ISSTH people. Though I wish it was as good as that. Enjoy!

Feng Yun was observing the deaths of the vast multitude of the soldiers in great pity and solemnity. He knew that the situation wasn't good. The previous hordes in the city from what he had learned weren't nearly as powerful as this one. This was the reason behind the shock and unprepared state of the City Lord's Mansion. Now that the true fighting potential of the beast army was revealed, the City Lord's Mansion should begin to take it seriously now. Though Feng Yun understood that nearly a whole 1,000 men had been slaughtered, it should be obvious that the city had developed countless countermeasures for something like this happening. Therefore, he wasn't in the slightest bit worried. Seeing a slaughter happen did not faze him at all. He had seen grotesque things of the same level of this, and even higher. The decimation of a country, is something that you cannot forget in your entire life.
At the current moment, the gates leading into the city were wide open and the beasts had a clear path of entering. However, most of the beasts had not noticed it and continued slaughtering the soldiers. Even the archers had retreated out of fear and no cannonball was sufficient enough to cause significant damage to the army. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning came crashing down from the thundercloud that had released the earlier one. It struck the ground, making a resonant and loud sound to shake the ears of the beasts and humans alike. It was strangely similar to the first lightning bolt and clearly held a signal as the beasts instantly reacted to it.
They turned their heads from their opponents towards the gates. Savage looks filled their faces as they set a new destination. They left their opponents who were dumbfounded and rushed towards the gate with drool escaping their mouths. It seems that they were possessed by the thought of devouring a whole city of human flesh. The whole army rushing towards the gates appeared very terrifying to the spectators, who had been calmly watching until now, Upon seeing the beasts come ever closer, sweat dropped down on some of their faces and hesitation flashed. They weren't sure whether they would be safe. Twin Viper City was one of the strongest cities on the continent and wasn't so easily penetrated. However, they had just seen a whole army of 1,000 strong men get slaughtered apart by the horde. Their beliefs were wavering now based on the current events. Some of them even unconsciously backed away.
In the center of Twin Viper City laid a large mansion constructed of the jade colored Spiritual Jadestone. It was extremely magnificent in stature and intimidated those who entered through the large gates. Within the great mansion were a group of men seated in mahogany chairs calmly sipping tea. They were all relatively old, most having grown white beards and possessed a great amount of wisdom. However in their eyes there lie a great ferociousness and pride, which could not be extinguished easily. These men were clearly no ordinary people. The amount of old men numbered four in total. Before them was a young soldier kneeling on the ground his head down in prostration. His face held an expression of reverence as he passed a piece of white parchment to the old man in the center of the four. This one wore gold robes with runes inscribed on the back. If one attempted to read them, they would notice that the characters formed the title, "City Lord".

The City Lord read the letter carefully and still had a calm expression. When he reached a certain point however, his complexion turned a bit unsightly. He clenched the paper in his fists until it transformed into a pile of ash. He had not even used fire to burn it and it had turned to ash. He looked at the young soldier before him and said,
"You did well informing me of this. Judging from your armor, you should be a survivor of the soldiers that fought so valiantly against the beast horde?"
"Yes City Lord. My brothers....most of them perished in battle. City Lord, I beg of you. Please avenge them and the commander's deaths." The soldier kowtowed before the City Lord while holding back tears. The City Lord nodded his head solemnly and placed his hand on the soldier's shoulder. He then turned toward the direction of the door.
"Hmph, these stupid beasts think they can just take over the city as easy as that? Not while my old legs are still on the ground!" The other three old men, all colored respectively red, blue, yellow and green, stood up and moved to follow the man.
"Wu Lao, this beast army. Is it not a possibility that it was coordinated by that Howling Thunder Wolf who escaped our grasp in the last horde attack?" The blue robed man, seemingly the one with the most calm of temperaments inquired. Wu Lao didn't turn his head and replied indifferently.
"High chance it is him. What arrogance. He thinks that even though he failed the first time he can succeed the second? Hmph, that stupid wolf won't escape us this time. He is practically delivering himself to us! It has only been a thousand years. How much progress could he have made?" The blue robed man didn't speak again, convinced by Wu Lao's confidence. The red robed old man said in a gleeful voice,
"Hehe Elder Brother Wu Lao, can I be the first to take a bite out of his carcass when we kill him? I wonder how lightning sparks taste?"
"Do what you want. Let's not waste time. If Ancestor Twin Viper gets angry, we're absolutely done for. Let us eliminate this threat!" The other three men nodded their heads and they shot off into the distance like beams of light.
Meanwhile, the beast army was coming too close to the gates. The archers were trying hard to pick them off but even with their superb skills, the number of beasts was just simply too large. It had to be around ten thousand or more. Just who could gather such a terrifying force to be reckoned with? Even the cannonballs formed by the fire elemental Truth realm cultivator was useless in the face of numbers. Furthermore, the beasts had coordination to match their numbers, making it nearly unstoppable. Even a First Class City may find some trouble defending against this kind of assault.
The azure wolf had already opened his eyes from his slumber and was currently staring at the battlefield from above. His eyes were sharp and thunder crackled along his pelt. He looked at the anxious expressions on the faces of the spectators and smiled with glee.
"Soon, you terror shall manifest into the ultimate horror. Neither the City Lord and his elders nor Seeker Twin Viper shall stop me!" He chuckled to himself, imagining the scene. He pictured thousands of innocents slaughtered and ripped to pieces, screaming in pain. He pictured the streets dyed with the color of blood. His "interesting" thoughts were interrupted when he picked up a scent that was not native to the battlefield. Four figures emerged out of the city, clothed in primary colors and dominating the scene with their powerful aura. They looked down at the legions of beasts approaching the gate with a great arrogance and narrowed eyes. The Howling Thunder Wolf raised his eyebrows and smiled even wider.

"That was fast? Well then, its time for the plan to proceed. Chishi, they've arrived at the battlefield!" The tiger that was subordinate to the Howling Thunder Wolf raised its head that was engaged in the the devouring of one of the heads of a human that a underling brought him. It looked slightly unsatisfied with its meal but still payed attention to the wolf.
"Sir, when do you want me to activate the formation?"
"When I give the signal." Then, the wolf proceeded to sit and watch the intense slaughter that was soon to occur.
The four old men had arrived at the gate at the time and were gazing upon the army with a look of arrogance. Feng Yun and all the people on the ground looked at them with awe and surprise. Most of them clearly knew who these people were. As for those who didn't, just reading the characters on the back of their robes told them enough. The old man in the front was clearly the City Lord of Twin Viper City, Wu Lao and the other robed men were elders. The red robed man looked at the army and whistled while saying,
"Whooh! That wolf really outdid himself trying to take over this city. I truly wonder where he got all of these beasts from. Either way, I will get to kill more!"
"Hm, this wolf's arrogance has skyrocketed beyond the limits of what normal people have. We should teach him a lesson...one that he will carry with him to the Yellow Springs of Hell!" The yellow robed man said with disdain. The blue robed man and the City Lord declined to comment and instead focused on the scene below them. In particular, the City Lord was looking at the half eaten carcasses of the soldiers who had gave their lives for the city. His brow furrowed and some rage silently seeped on to his face.
"KILL!"
Almost as if waiting for his call, the men spread out in different directions, all occupying a large portion of the beast army. The blue robed man started first, his hands spreading out before him. He closed his eyes and a cool breeze like energy manifested within his palms. Wind energy, Feng Yun thought to himself. This blue robed man was clearly a wind element cultivator.
"You beasts have sinned towards our city. DIE!"
His hands began to gradually collect more gusts of wind and air from the surroundings. Soon, a small circular ball of wind energy seemed to be making itself visible to the people not of the Truth realm.
The blue robed man spread his fingers apart, allowing for a greater volume of wind energy to fly into the air balls. After believing that he had gathered enough, the blue robed man inhaled a sharp breath of air before opening his eyes. He launched the two air balls with a large amount of velocity towards the beasts, who had sensed danger originating from the sky and stopped to survey their surroundings. When they saw the air balls, they stared dumbly at it, not understanding what it was. The air balls connected with two different parts of the beast army, sending out an enormous torrent of energy. The torrent contained within the ball expanded quickly, acting as a vacuum and sucking up everything in a ten meter radius. The energy transformed into a hurricane like existence that simply tore through the beast ranks.
The hurricane contained winds as sharp as blades and whatever came into contact with it was instantly slaughtered, pieces of their body being cut clean off. Even if the beasts didn't come close to it, the hurricane would suck them up anyways and split their bodies apart. It was a horrifying sight to the beasts who were still located some distance away. Many of them whimpered in fear for the power of the wind storms was too great. Just by a couple of wind hurricanes, more than a quarter of the beast army had been decimated.
Meanwhile, the red robed man was dealing quite the damage himself. The man smiled as his body released a very terrifying energy from it. There were large amounts of killing intent being dispensed from his body, showing that he had killed things countless times. It manifested into an illusory phantom that threatened the beasts below and even made some of them urinate themselves. What terrified them the most however, was his next action.
"You guys better taste good when I fry you!"
The red robed man then condensed the killing intent into a thick layer of skin. He then launched himself from the air directly towards the ground....like a meteor. His body was like a comet, streaking at heaven defying speeds. The monsters basically had no chance of escaping. His body connected with the horde below and seconds a later, an explosion rocked the whole battlefield. Everyone looked over and were shocked to see that where there was once an abnormal amount of monsters, was now a large crater of nothingness. Practically nothing existed in it anymore. A figure dragged itself out of the crater, its face colored with disappointment. The figure had red robes and had an old appearance. The elder looked around and then with gloom, slapped his forehead in admonishment.
"Damn it! I did it again! I forgot to leave their bodies intact. Now I don't have the chance to taste some new beasts' meat!"
The yellow robed elder was casting high level earth elemental skills that literally "uprooted" the battlefield. Earthquakes shook the coordination of the beasts and made them falter. Not only that, the ground gave way under them due to the earthquakes and a large portion of the beasts fell down into the the abyss of darkness. He also summoned spikes and various killing mechanisms to wipe out the whole population. The sight at the end was one of complete slaughter and horror. Bodies were strewn up everywhere and organs spilled out of the bodies, littering the floor with their blood. Add to the fact that there was a few thousand of them, the amount of blood there was enough to start a river.
With the combined attacks of the three elders, completely destroying the entire beast army was only a matter of time. The City Lord didn't even have to do anything. It only took them a few minutes and the ten thousand beast horde...had been completely wiped out. In the entire battlefield, only the four elders remained. The whole entire audience was stunned silent. None of them had the courage to speak at all. The sight that they had just witnessed was just too much to even comprehend. Feng Yun was currently thinking very hard about the strength of the three elder. He wondered what would happen if his master went all out. Would the carnage be even greater than what these elders could cause? At this point of time he had no idea due to the fact that he did not understand Dai Tian's current level of strength accurately. The City Lord had watched as the three elders finished the horde before taking a step in the air forward. In a loud booming voice he said,
"Howling Thunder Wolf! We know you are there! Come out and fight me you god damn coward! Or are you afraid that you will lose to me once more?"

Bitter
The story of a girl who finds her life is not what she wanted. So she gets another one. Schedule: Story has been completed. Book One is available free on Amazon and EPUB. Books Two to Five are out now. Final Book out soon. Chapters will be around 500-1000 words. This will not change so if you don't like reading very short chapters wait till the end of the week or even end of the month. This many chapters a week isn't easy to pull off so please bear that in mind. This is a VRMMORPG story, but the ones I've read tend to use VR as an excuse to get into a fantasy world and then don't really play up the game aspect other than pulling up a status screen every now and then. To me, MMOs are about more than the fantasy setting. Bugs, exploits, devs who don't understand their own game, OP classes, over the top nerfs, p2w, ridiculous RNG, cash shop fiasco, lockboxes, raging players, broken mechanics, limited bag space, tedious crafting and above all that, a company trying to squeeze money out if its playerbase while pretending they're just in the business of having fun. Of course, then there's the orcs and elves. This story is about finding yourself in a completely immersive fantasy game, but it's also about what a game like that would really be like.
