-The Specter Guardian(4)-

In the face of his rapidly approaching death, Kenshin closes his eyes and frees his mind of all thoughts. Its as if he had accepted his death. But this was not the truth; not at all. He’s paralyzed in his place, not because there was any problem with his body. It was because his soul has been affected by the monster’s skill.

When his emotions were in high due to the threat of death, he had subconsciously desired for the freedom. He had desired with all his heart to grant him the ‘freedom of movement’ so that he could save himself. That subconscious desire affected his WIL, forcing it to pass an ‘order’ to ‘free’ body of all constraints.

When the ‘order’ passed throughout the body, it forcefully pulled the body and soul out of its constraints. Kenshin closed his eyes and concentrated on everything in front of him, he vaguely pictured out the image of the scythe nearing its neck.

Normally a person shouldn’t be able to dodge something so dangerous at a close range but, right now his body had received the ‘order’ from his will. Since he was not specific about his ‘order’; his ‘Will’ has freed his body of all the constraints. That also included his natural limiters.

With a burst of speed, he bent his back at an angle that shouldn’t be possible naturally. In that bent pose, he kicked the ground and skidded himself a few steps back. The scythe naturally missed its target.

That maneuver had cost him 5 points of will and 6 points of stamina. Kenshin stood up and balanced himself. Suddenly he felt a huge amount of pain on his back and legs making him kneel on the floor. The pain was so unbearable that he nearly screamed out.

“Kenshin! Are you okay?” Maria screamed as she ran towards the kneeling Kenshin. Earlier she was too absorbed in the weird movement performed by him and even forgot to breathe for a second. But the sudden kneeling Kenshin had broken her from her stupor, reminding her of her priority.

Sweating profusely, Kenshin gritted his teeth as he forcefully suppressed his screams. The natural limiters are there for a reason. To forcefully remove them, even for a second, will have adverse effects on the body. The intense pain he was feeling now was the side effect of such actions.

Passive Regeneration worked overtime to heal all the shredded muscles on his body, gaining a huge amount of EXP in the process.

“Are you okay?” Maria asked as she kneeled beside Kenshin, looking at him with concern. Though she doesn’t know what that weird movement Kenshin done, she was sure that his current condition was a sequela of that movement.

“I am okay. What about the monster?” Kenshin asked between his gritted teeth.

“It’s still there, standing like a statue,” she said, pointing a delicate finger towards the unmoving Specter Guardian.

Gritting his teeth in pain, he used his sword as a stick and stood up with shaky legs. His legs and back were killing him but with pure determination he suppressed them.

“Let’s kill it!” Kenshin said.

“Hey! Wait! You are in pain, right?! Take rest first” she said anxiously. She couldn’t understand why he was pushing himself, even though he was clearly in pain.

In actuality, he shouldn’t be doing this. Maria alone was enough to finish it off right now. But earlier he had realized a secret about his stats and its way of increment. Each point he adds to his stats, it removes a natural barrier of his body, allowing him to wield more power. So, if one wants to increase that stat without AP, then they must first reach the barrier and break it themselves.

His aching body has reminded him that he had approached that barrier. If he proceeds now, he will successfully break through that limiter and successfully raise a stat. He doesn’t want to lose this god-given chance.

“No, I am fine. More importantly, let’s kill this shitty creature” Kenshin cursed.

Gritting his teeth, he slowly inched towards the Specter Guardian. His shaky hands gripped the sword tightly while he gathered every ounce of his determination to continue the fight.

The Specter Guardian, seeing its prey had come again, it whirled the scythe in its hand and floated towards Kenshin. With a swift motion, it’s scythe descended towards his head. Holding his sword above his head, he blocked the scythe in its path.

His legs nearly gave in from the force of the strike. Mirror Reflection has done its job, receiving some EXP in the process. Kenshin gritted his teeth as he held back his screams, veins appeared on his forehead and neck and throbbed like crazy.

“YAAAAAA!!!” with a scream he forced the monster’s scythe back and followed up with a Flame Slash.

The Specter Guardian lost its balance due to Kenshin’s sudden outburst of strength. Then it received a flame attack to its abdomen.

Three red texts floated above the Specter Guardian as it received three different damage. The first one was from his base sword attack, then the magic attack and last one was from the DoT effect of the flame magic.

“Kenshin, come back” Maria’s shout reached Kenshin’s ear. As for now, even taking a step was painful for him. Gritting his teeth he backed up with hurried steps. A red ring appeared out of nowhere and surrounded the Specter Guardian.

KABOOM!!

A massive explosion occurred, shredding the monster into pieces.

“Kenshin!!” Maria screamed in panic as she runs towards the fallen Kenshin.

Finally, the Specter Guardian died.
