-Vol 5: A New Life-
-Hoards of Mosnters(3)-
Raymond felt like he had given amenity when the words of Kenshin reached his ears. He had already given up on ever walking out here alive, in fact when the last shark jumped at him, he already had a flashback of every event of his life. He jumped back from his earlier position, allowing the man in front to take charge. With a grateful face, he said “Thank you! I will remember this kindness.”
He didn’t ask a useless question like ‘can you handle it?’ or ‘will you be alright?’ For this man to come here and go out of his way to help him means he had the confidence and ability to manage these hoards. Asking that question would only question his intelligence. Besides, he didn’t want this man to change his mood due to his question. It may sound selfish, but he also wanted to live.
After the man rolled away, Kenshin looked at the huge mass of [Big Mouthed Shark Fishes]. He had already used his system on them and found them to be around 20 to 25 levels, but their ATK and PHY were well above 50. It was similar to that squid’s, except they didn’t have any skills and their stats weren't ridiculously high in comparison to their levels. But their strength lied in their numbers. With that much number, even a hunter above level 100 would gradually wear down and ultimately fall. Kenshin didn’t dare to neglect these monsters, holding his [Red Ruby Sword] he slashed five fishes every second.

Notification continued to appear like that. As the grinding continued, he noticed the durability of his sword decreasing gradually. Kenshin sighed. He had this sword since the beginning of North mission, although it wasn’t that long, and he hadn't used it much, the time had already appeared for it to be changed. With his increase in power and encountering enemies like that squid and Isabella, a sword with mere 400ATK could no longer be helpful. Not only it felt extremely light in his hands, in some cases it’s low attack would only hold him back. Besides, he had way too much money in his hands if he didn’t buy a few weapons, then when would he buy them?

But right now wasn’t a good time, he decided to do that after this mission was over. He was confident that this mission would pass without him needing a change in weapons. While he was deep in thought, a shark sneaked up on him and tried to bite off his head, but with just a casual swing it was bisected from the middle. Due to Kenshin's interference, the pressure on other hunters also decreased by a huge margin. It was also because every now and then he would dose these fishes with [King’s Presence] forcing the weaker ones to retreat. Quite a few also died because of unbearable pressure.
Several minutes later the seemingly never-ending hoard of monsters finally wiped out. The waters became silent with no one to disturb it. All the hunters around sat down to take a rest. A few even directly laid on their spot. They didn’t care if it wet or dry, they simply wanted to take a rest. Wounded were already taken to the basement and were treated by doctors sent by DCB. No one died, so it was a pretty good outcome for these hunters and of course the DCB. But this battle also gave these rowdy hunters a taste of sea monster’s powers, making them even more vigil. Now they realized they couldn’t compare these sea monsters to the dungeon ones because clearly the former was stronger.
After a few minutes of death, a monster would leave some drops for the one who killed it. Usually, it would appear beside the corpse. And after 15 minutes, except for the useless part of the corpse, the monster corpse would slowly dissipate into the atmosphere as pure magical particles or radiation in case of science. Radiation that wasn’t fatal to humans of the current generation. Those monsters who fell back to sea, they could do nothing about but those that fell to the boat, everyone waited like a hawk to see if there would anything drop from it. Generally drops form these level 20 to 25 wouldn’t attract the attention of someone who had passed level 50 but there were far too few people who surpassed that blockade. Most of the people that signed up for this mission were below level 50.

The fishes were gathered into a huge mountain in the middle of the boat as the hunters look at it like a bunch of vultures. Twenty minutes later, with huge emission of white smoke, the mountain of fishes vanished, leaving behind a few body parts and of course the much-awaited drops. Of course, there wasn’t any epic loot, only a bunch of fish meat and a few gold coins. Kenshin didn’t take part in this distribution. Instead, he kept an eye on Isabella’s pointer. She had yet to come out of that room. Her marker didn’t move since the beginning of the fight. Considering how strong she was, there was no need for her to hide in the face of these monsters. Kenshin was getting a bad vibe from all this, he had a feeling that he would soon be dragged into dangerous and unexpected trouble.
The boat continued to float throughout the waters. There wasn’t a fixed destination, they were just moving through the regions where monsters were sighted previously. After this attack, there were also no major attacks, as the boat silently floated. An hour after the vanishing of fish corpses, the discussion and distribution of the drops finally finished. Kenshin didn’t know the exact amount of a drop, but he was sure it wasn’t that large. He took a spot toads the end of the boat and relaxing sat there, observing the waters. Every now and then he would check on Isabella’s position. She didn’t come back to talk him after the battle with that squid was over.
He found it strange. As for that squid, its marker was showing it to be at least 200 kilometers away from their current position. It seems that thing really was afraid of its life, opting to flee such a large distance.
“Looking at these silent waters, no one would believe that it hid many fatal threats.” Kenshin looked at the speaker of this line, the bleached man whom he saved. Smiling at him, the bleached man continued “Hello, I am Raymond. Thank you for saving me back there.” He did a ninety-degree bow to show his appreciation.
“Don’t sweat it. We are all together in this, it's my job to help when needed. I am Kenshin by the way, nice to meet you,” Kenshin smiled at him. The man relaxed after seeing Kenshin’s amicability. He was afraid that this man would be arrogant and hard to get along with. Reymond had clearly seen just how strong Kenshin was. He had slaughtered close to two hundred fishes without even breaking a sweat.
“Nonetheless let me thank you. I thought I am a goner there. Sigh! Why are these sea monsters so strong?” Raymond sighed taking a seat near Kenshin, looking at the silent ocean illuminated by the moon.
“Maybe it was because of the cruelty of seas. The monsters below sea were many times more vicious than those on the land. I heard the law of the jungle and survival of fittest was the only thing matters amongst these monsters. They also didn’t have any qualms about devouring their own kin to gain strength.” Kenshin explained what he had read from the internet, an article by a few scientists and some hunters.
“I heard these are just mobs. Damn…if the mobs are this strong already, I wonder how strong would be elites?” Raymond shook his head as he lamented about the matter. He was also very fearful of these sea monsters. Even a mob group gave them this much trouble already, and he can be counted as an Elite among humans since his level was already passed 50.
“At least thrice as powerful than these mobs. The contest for strength is very cruel in the sea. Levels also held no meaning for these creatures. They tend to be more powerful than their level suggests. Be careful when you fight any more monsters from here on.” Kenshin warned gravely. He didn’t want anyone to be killed due to their negligence.

The Twelve
In a world marred by the supernatural, Japan suffers from its own fair share of evil and demonic disasters, with generations of shamans known as Onmyoji protecting their homeland from these forces of evil. Capable of wielding magic and using spirits of their own, these shamans were not only skilled in battle, but also divination. However, they were unable to correctly predict Japan's loss in World War Two, and suffered the punishments that followed. Persecuted and torn apart by infighting, the Onmyoji reunited under the banner of the Tsuchimikado clan, descendants of Abe no Seimei, one of the greatest Onmyoji to ever live. The Onmyoji began to rebuild and to regrow. Ren is the sole heir to the Tsuchimikado family, but has been unable to practice Onmyodo ever since his birth, even though he possesses the greatest ability in the family. But when disaster befalls his family, Ren has nobody to turn to, and no idea how to use his powers. As he journeys to escape the same fate his family faced and attempts to learn how to use his powers, there is only one question on his mind; as the Tsuchimikado heir, how can he save the Onmyoji... from themselves? ---------------------------------------------- note from author: I'm writing this based loosely on the very real theories of Onmyodo, and so my writing may not be a truthful or accurate depiction of Onmyodo or other related areas, such as religion, for instance. That is why, while depicted in the real world, events that happen may seem unrealistic and it may be easier to imagine it as a parallel universe that is the same as ours, but with slight differences so that my possible errors will be easier to overlook. Sorry, and thanks!
